Great video - and we're in 1988! 'Sign Your Name' my favourite - sad that wasn't #1 anywhere. Such a beautiful song and Terrence's voice enhances it. Seductive yet heartbreaking. Good to see Kylie appreciated too, but we loved here much more. A shame Mandy Smith never had any hits here in her homeland, but good to see Europe appreciating her. She has a cute singing voice. 'She Wants to Dance With Me' is Rick Astley's best song. Much better than his lead single. Stock, Aitken and Waterman very much a force that year in the German charts. Italo disco pretty much disappeared, but German Euro disco still strong. Schlager very much a force but not as strong as it was in the late 70s / very early 80s. Good to see the Germans appreciate 'Say You Will' by Foreigner. Wasn't even a hit here. Good to see more love for Sam Fox too. Second 'Everything's Coming Up Roses' being an underrated gem. Prefer that to 'Wonderful Life'. Surprised not to see any Guns N Roses here. They were a force in the UK and US charts. Never understood why 'Man In The Mirror' was never a big hit anywhere. It's one of MJs best songs! Maxi & Chris Garden was the German entry and spelled the end of the German domination in Eurovision (bar Mary Roos 2.0 result) only finishing 14th. Germany would kill for that now in the contest! They should have gone in 1987!
Appreciate this video 100% as always 👍. It's so interesting to see how Germany was doing with their charts in this golden decade for music.

Once again you saved my Saturday evening, Francis 😉. This is so much work, thank you for this! I don't remember 1988 so fondly, this was my time in the military (German "Bundeswehr"), and it sucked! So I don't have the best memories regarding the charts in this year, either. In my opinion, this is already more 90s than "classic" 80s (which ended in 1986, imho).
But this is obviously not your issue, Francis 😄. Your effort here is remarkable!

Yes total Agree with you and my father opinion (born 1969 and 15-20 years Era 1984-1989). He says, the last fantastic year of really 80's songs IS end 1986 beginning middle 1987 and After the transition in 90's Era during middle end 1987 and 1988-1989. He was on power fiesta diskothek student school ... Era 1983 until middle 1987 and he says After that the style change. For example, Era 1984-1986 for him IS the the same 3 years and fantastic (a lot of euro disco, italo disco, New wave, hard rock, funk, synthpop,électro pop,... Différent style in power during this Era) and 1987-1988 it was the end of all style (...) And the beginning for italo house, New beat, rap, hip hop, acid house, New jack swing, house Chicago,... And italo disco New wave euro disco was AT end and destroy by the New Style end 80's (look like as thé 90's). The better example IS italo disco for him. 1983-1986 very succees famous and 1987-1988 dead. Era 1985-1986 IS extremely différent from 1987-1988. This was the transition for my father and he hates song as confetti, yazz, sexpress, marrs, technotronic, lui Louis french kiss, black box, ... (For him this was shit in compare to italo disco New wave ... and the beginning of the end of the 80's) ^^. For me the 80's IS fascinanted because this Era as a lot of différebt style from 1980 to 1989. And Era 1983-1986 IS so différent from 1987-1989. Im born im 1992 but i love 80's Era and de are french ^^ (Haguenau near Strasbourg)

I see fancy, den Harrow, Sabrina, Sandra, cc-catch, Bad boy blue, blue système,... good artist for euro disco and italo disco. 1987-1988 was the end of them but last good song on power for them. 1988 was good for a-ha, pet shop boys, Éric Camen, foreigner, falco Wiener blut, ok okay (this IS a power sound between electropop synthpop Era 1985-1986 and New beat house 1988-1989). A-ha you are the one IS probably in 1989 german chart, this IS m'y favorite song a-ha. Bros was good too (when i will famous, quiet, owe you nothing), milli vanilli baby forget number. Confetti thé sound of c was probably in 1989 german chart. In french november 1988 entries and 5-6months ^^. Sexpress, yazz were hère. I hâte this song but they are good in this style.

The year of A-ha, INXS, U2, Pet Shop Boys - to name just a few. 30:36 was my all-time no.1 at my personal chart while 12:38 was a radio hit of decade in PL. Here we have songs of every genre from US, UK, EU-to be, remixes, covers, precious litlle diamonds ( 0:19, 1:56, 14:15, 18:06, 20:38, 26:47 and many more) + never-heard-before songs and at least three olympics anthems. Yeah, the olympic year - this is what 1988 was for music.
