    I mounted a trailer tongue box to my trailer a few years ago. Something to consider is getting rubber washers from Lowes or home depot and putting them, between you trailer frame and the box. As you drive water and grime will get between the two layers of metal and begin to cause rust. Remember your box does vibrate causing the paint to get thin and bare spots. The rubber washers prevent the metal on metal rubbing.

      Great idea! Thanks! I will do that.

      Smart move. I think I'll do the same thing. Place rubber under the trailer tongue box. Much appreciated for the tip!

    Definitely will be putting one of these on my Tractor Supply trailer and lucky me and the other guys up here in the Petoskey Michigan area we are finally getting a Harbor Freight this year as our closest store is 70 miles. Thanks

      My closest Harbor Freight is 40 miles away. But I finally have a 4 lane divided highway to get there. Not nearly as difficult as when it was a 2 lane highway. Good for you. Thanks for watching!

    I bought 1. Great purchase for the money. I cut a hole in the side for a 6 panel marine grade fuse box. The tool box can carry 2 batteries for my winch. I also run 6 flood lights. 2 spare tires and the jack. Great video. 👍

    Inside use rubber o rings under the washers to prevent water from getting inside. Also you can screw tap the frame so no one can get to the nuts and rob the box....

    Thanks for taking the time to make the video. Your drilling technique needs work. Your drill speed is too fast, and you don't need to use eight thousand drill bits to drill one hole. Just use the right size drill bit the first time, and take your time with it.

  • @davejames2037

    And now you have holes in your frame. Likely not a problem but it does lessen the integrity of the main trailer frame. Welding in a cross bar and drilling into that would be a better idea and not impact the strength of the trailer. If you only haul light weight, probably not an issue but add a couple UTV's, rock, anything with weight and I wouldn't want holes drilled in my frame.

    • @shawn7913
      @shawn7913 Před 2 lety +1

      Welding cross braces will weaken the frame too. Most heavy duty frames have stickers on them saying do not weld or drill frame. I'm sure he will not have any issues with structural integrity over 4 drilled holes on a utility trailer or car trailer.

      @@shawn7913 Good to know. I've had three different trailers and used a few others and never seen those stickers but I can see the argument that any structural change would alter the designed integrity. I haul larger UTV's regularly but nothing the weight of a vehicle. For light duty...mowers, 4-wheelers, etc, probably okay. I just wouldn't want to chance it with $20K plus UTV's in tow. Thanks for the info. I've got a couple friends that run a welding shop. I'll see if they have suggestions.

      If you are really concerned about the structural integrity of the frame, then get a box which extends past the edges of the frame and use U-bolts to secure it. They will not require any drilling into the frame. Then cut off any excess bolt inside the toolbox after it is secured.

    I know I should know this, but what type of drill bits are those? I need to put my HF box on my camper trailer, and I also have to move the propane tank. So lots of drilling ahead.

    Just being Devils Advocate. On the box Installation. What’s stopping a thief from unscrewing the nuts from the bottom side of the trailer and stealing the entire box and the contents ? I’m thinking the only way you could do that would to weld those Nuts in place ? I’m sorry but Trailers in general are easy targets for thieves in my old Neighborhood I had someone break into my Enclosed trailer I used for storing and hauling Camping gear luckily they didn’t think any of those items were valuable enough to steal. Or got Spooked off , unfortunately around the same time a Buddy of mine had his entire Trailer Stolen. With about a hundred thousand dollars of CustomMotorcycles inside of it last I knew the trailer was found with some damage and none of the Motorcycles were recovered

      I appreciate your comment. Fortunately for me, I live in a safe neighborhood. In addition, there is a street light in front of my house. My yard is NEVER dark and there are good neighbors all around. Thanks for watching.

      @shawn7913 Před 2 lety

      A thief could open the box with a pry bar faster than removing it. On top of that, the lock nuts will not back off unless they already have the lid open with a wrench on the bolt.
