Yes the are. Here in Australia, I used to build drill rigs and Tatra trucks are mainly what we used. They are basic, slow but heavy duty and not much to go wrong with its outdated air cooled engine. But if they do, easy to fix with basic tools which is essential if your thousands of kilometres from the nearest city. Drillers here love them for that reason. Modern trucks don’t cope well with the conditions here but Tatras just keep going.

@@85active The big advantage for the Tatra is the centran backbone, which gives it great abilities in more difficult terrain, also it enables them to make special long chassis with enough rigidity (they recently made a new 7 axle 25,3m long special for Ostrava's iron smelters). Thanks to that they are usable even when some states impose weight limit per axle, because Tatra can compensate for that with more axles. The only limitation is in heavy wavy terrain, whene the rigidity means some wheels can be in the air despite the independent suspension. In these conditions a truck with flexible chassis is better. Like for example the Praga V3S from 1953, a famous originally military 3t truck, which later found also many uses in public sectors. The army men said that where the Praga won't be able to go, even a tank won't come through. The car that when stuck, could pull itself out. Btw it used half of the Tatra 111 V12 engine.
Now Tatra however also offers modernity, they got a new owner in 2012 that virtualy survived Tatra from ashes, they introduced a new range of modern trucks (fittingly called the Phoenix). They made a deal with DAF, so the Phoenix uses the Paccar six cylinder water cooled units, a ZF manual or automatic gearboxes, but it couples that with their original chassis concept. Alongside that, it still makes the so many times modernised evolution of the famous T815 also availablke with their aircooled engines. They even managed to comply with Euro 5 emission laws, which it was believed was impossible to meet with an air cooled engine. They want to try and comply with Euro 7 (they stopped selling it when Euro 6 came and offered wated cooled engines for Europe) and now they say they also worn on their own water cooled V12.

In my opinion the tatra T613 looks ( from the outside) a lot like the renault R-30 from 1978. I had two, (renault) , very good and luxury cars, also safe witch I doubt for Tatra. But however...

The Tatra was designed in the early 70's by the Italian studio Vignale, the first design was available in 1973 but the production started only in 1975. The problem was that in our country back then they were no creature comfort things like aircon or so, because the communists claimed the poeple did not need them. That is why the 90's Tatra was so expensive - all the modern stuff had to be imported from the west or licensed and that made it so pricy. It was also designed as a very nice Coupé, but that never entered production. Early on it was really nice, with all the chrome and stuff, but when the 80's came and the communists foud how to make plastic bumpers, it turned rather ugly.
