Absolutely correct..Personally,I think for a couple of yrs,he was the best "all round"player in World Football..And I'm talking about his all around influence on an game..Great Players as they have been-His contempories MessI,Ronaldo,Tierri Henri,Zlatan etc have been attackers..(even though we have seen Messi playing a deeper role&he's fantastic-he took Tottenham Hotspur apart the other week)But Rooney at his best&most effective was playing quite a free role for United,or played L&R and the support striker role to accomdate other players..These are the traits that make him stand out..******

He was moved around all over the place(without complaining)I remember listen to Ferguson on the Training Field saying"Rooney plays anywhere,even in goal"said with a big smile on his face-but ur right he was a "victim of his own success"and versatility..
Agreed,the first time I saw him play was for England,against Turkey,in a Bar in the U.S(That probably may sound strange,but I was busy&the EPL coverage was'nt so good at the time)But straight away he stood out&I spotted him..IMO for a couple seasons he was the best "All round" player in the world..Not forward or Midfield but all round..Now I'm a Spurs fan,but quality is what is..Spurs had Gazza&he certainly had his moments&he also could do exceptional things,but I think Rooney has been a better (once again)all round Player..And for me has me given reasons to watch games.. A true great*****.

God bless my parents for giving birth to me when they did. The united team I witnessed as a teenager will never be forgotten and this man was the spear-head. Forget goals, this guy had it all, the definition of complete footballer. Stats don't do him justice, neither do accolades, simply watch him torment any team and tell me he's not one of the greatest of all time.

Dude he was not better then 17 year old cr7, messi I cant say. If you watch cr7 play for sporting at 17 years old, it was like he was a veteran, a captain who has done it for years, the only thing missing was the power in his shots. And thats what Rooney always had. Top quality finishing. Anyway i guess thats why they all occupie diferent positions.
The simple truth seems to be that unlike Messi and Ronaldo, Rooney lost his enthusiasm for playing and lacked the dedication and self sacrifice needed to stay at the top and for the last few seasons of his career, he seemed to be getting picked on past reputation alone. I guess that I'm probably in the minority that fails to be dazzled by the statistics and see Rooney as having underachieved.
I always say he underachieved and I get criticised for it. Its as if people think I don't rate him. By saying he underachieved I'm actually saying he's even better than what we saw. He may not have been at messi or Ronaldo level but he was very close. He didn't have the dedication or lifestyle messi and Ronaldo have

Second highest goals, one of the highest assist makers in the prem, misused by sir Alex, David Moyes, van gaal and Mourinho as he was shunted about everywhere. His best position was off the striker but was pushed around everywhere to get the best out of the other players. The biggest sign of a great is someone who is brilliant but can sacrifice himself to make others look brilliant while still looking superb himself.

If I ever wanted a signed United jersey, it has to be Wayne Rooney's signature. For me he is the true personification of a Man United player. A player who gives his all for the teams, who's willing to work up the end of the last minute, to give his all for a win. Or even for a loss, you can never say he was lazy or that he wasn't trying enough. I feel blessed to have grown up watching and following his career.

The forgotten man when it comes to people picking their all time Premier league XI. I really don’t know how. All time top scorer for Manchester United and England. I think he was almost hampered by his amazing ability on the ball, as this made Ferguson utilise him in different positions as he knew he could trust him to do a job. Rooney was his best in his prime as an out and out striker.
