    Great list! Love all of Laukat’s games. I slightly disagree with the Near & Far: Amber Mines expansion being simply okay. You have fun and improved ways to pump up your characters, plus coop/solo mode. It’s like a 2nd edition for N&F. Fantastic!

    Megaland is very underrated. Really fun light push your luck game with some engine building. The more it hits the table as a filler the more we like it. Everyone we introduce it to enjoys it.

    • @Animal_board_gamer
      @Animal_board_gamer Před 2 lety +1

      Oh yeah Megaland is a huge hit in my gaming group. In fact deep vents, Megaland and dingos dreams have more plays than any other red raven game in my gaming group. My majority of my gaming group has barely scratched the surface on red raven games. Roam and above and below is about the gist they have played. And then I have one friend who has played the ancient world, city of iron and now Islebound.

  • @Animal_board_gamer
    @Animal_board_gamer Před 2 lety +5

    Right now for me my top 10 are…
    1. Above and below
    2. Deep vents
    3. Empires of the void 2
    4. Megaland
    5. Dingos dreams
    6. City of iron
    7. Islebound
    8. The ancient world
    9. Roam
    10. Klondike rush
    I just bought near and far yesterday so my list is subject to change, and I will probably do another favorite red raven game list video this year. Because the last time I did the video I didn’t have city of iron either.

  • @apalesch1

    In my 300+ game collection… I do not have a single Laukat game. Nor do any of my friends. They look amazing, I don’t know how I’ve evidently passed every one; I need to grab one of these.

    • @GamesOffTheShelf
      @GamesOffTheShelf Před 2 lety

      For a longer more in depth game go with Near and Far. For a shorter less table space check out Roam. To be honest in my opinion all of Red Raven games I've played I've enjoyed.

    • @Animal_board_gamer
      @Animal_board_gamer Před 2 lety

      @@GamesOffTheShelf yeah same here. But that’s because I do research first. After spending the last year doing research on near and far and city of iron I finally decided to buy them. However I just got near and far yesterday so haven’t played it yet. After doing research on haven, and sleeping gods I’ve decided I just don’t like those games. As for now or never I’m undecided about it thus far. And considering I like and own 13 of the about 19 games, that goes to show you that red raven games had a really good track record of popular games. Sure I may hate sleeping gods while many love it. But I love deep vents while many hate it. So there’s a good chance you’ll like some of his games. Adam palesch. And everyone has there own favorites and dislikes. There’s a couple comments saying they love roam. Someone said Klondike rush was there favorite. Someone else artifact inc. was there favorite. And while near and far and above and below tend to be very popular, there were couple of comments saying they didn’t like those 2 games but liked empires of the void and the ancient world instead. Tom vasel said Islebound doesn’t get enough love. And yet I wasn’t the only one that said that I liked Islebound. So the point is you can’t go wrong with red raven games! So join the club.

    I've been waiting for this list! Red Raven is far and away my favorite publisher. Whenever I make a list of my favorite games, I can't help but put Empires of the Void 2 at #1. Artifacts, Inc. was my first game of his that I bought and it's still one of my favorites. And Haven is my go-to short 2 player game. The only RR game that I didn't LOVE was City of Iron 2. I liked it, but it was a little too long for what it was and I wasn't sure the factions were totally balanced. So basically, my least favorite game by RR was a 7 out of 10. Not bad.
    This and Garphill Games are pretty much the only publishers who's new games are always a must-buy.

    Ryan is a multi-domain talent, and I love the fact that he has revisited several initial designs with their respective second editions (and consistently improved upon the game content with the benefit of experience). I do agree with the #1 and #2 picks, as I felt combat in Sleeping Gods was meant to offer lots of choice and player agency in the form of a dynamic puzzle that was reduced to a rinse & repeat mechanism once solved (usually by advancing 2 or 3 key characters and finding a decent combat-oriented totem). I hope this limitation is addressed in Distant Skies.

    Above and Below is a classic. It's one of my go-tos for new players because its easy to comprehend the decision space, its pretty, and the flavor text makes it a little more interesting. I like Near and Far as well but I feel like the RPG elements and the overarching story could have been stronger. It would have suited my tastes more if you kept your items map-to-map and there was intro and exit storytelling on each map. I think its an amazing platform to get more expansions, but it looks like Lauket has moved on to other more ambitious projects.

    Empires of the Void II is the best game from Laukat, I feel. It's a bit underrated. Granted, I have yet to play Sleeping Gods and Near & Far, so maybe I will change my tune when I do. lol :-) They look great! You haven’t tried any of the other games and yet you want to try sleeping gods first? Okay if you really want to learn how to swim in an ocean with sharks circling, when you should learn to swim in a pool first, that’s your prerogative. Just promise me if you don’t end up liking sleeping gods, then you will still try something else. Because saying sleeping gods his best game is relative. Honestly Arzium is Ryan laukats best work. Games that take place in arzium should be the ones considered for his best work, because arzium is solely unique. And sleeping gods does not take place in arzium. Here’s the games in arzium as far as I know.

So I’m still deciding wether I’ll buy it or not. I may wait year before I decide. One way or another you should try it for yourself, especially if you already bought it.

      Honestly, I’ve only played it once, but I think I like Now or Never better than Above and Below or Near and Far (both of which I’ve played several games of). I really got into the mix of light adventure with some breezy city building. For me it was just the right combination of each to scratch that itch. It just really depends on what genre types you’re into.
