- Data analytics is a rapidly growing field and many companies are hiring data analysts at all levels. As a head of data, I share unique insights into the key skills companies are looking for and how you can start your data analysis career
Interesting that you picked out 2 certs I'd never heard of until now. Most of the advice I've seen online to date are for vendor based certs
Did you do your own editing? The zoom on "rapidly" and then the graph was an excellent opener. 👍
Yes, I edit my self. Glad you appreciate it.

So useful and and great info , all the best Josh
Hi, I’m currently building a portfolio. Could you please give a couple of examples of portfolios that would get someone hired?
Informative, thank
Thanks Josh! Great info
Hi, I am curious about which learning you recommend to get the "Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate" or code academy "Business Intelligence Data Analyst".
Your sound so easy to listen for a foreigner like me, so hope you can keep it on the next vid
The music at the start, I loved it, I want it ❤❤❤
Thank you for the video!
How is it different for a Data Scientist compared to a Data Analyst in Dubai?.
If I have a bachelor’s degree in computer science will this degree help me? I am looking into getting into data analytics!
It will not hurt you.
Hello Josh your videos are very insightful can you give me a brief about how to get a data analyst job in Dubai. I have 6 months of experience as an Business analyst Intern
Thanks a lot, I can learn many things from you. :D
Question: I’ve started to look into the possibility of moving to Dubai. Could you do a video with the typical salariés of Data analysts in Dubai? Would like to understand if the pay is better than here in London
Dubai can be better salary. It is tax free and compared to the UK generally higher (if you work for a large company or a company that is from outside Dubai but has an office in dubai). But with high pay can also come high expenses. School is private and can be very expensive. Renting an apartment of villa can also be very expensive. Most people from the UK earn the best before kids or after kids have left home. But on the flip side, maybe you're not to sort to want to save money and would like to live in a fancy apartment in a good part of town ans spend the weekends chilling in expensive hotel pools and beaches. But if your goal is saving, then if you have kids, you're not going to be saving much unless you're in a very senior position
@@joshbrindley5652 from where I can do course
This sir is very helpful. Thank you.
I am currently going into my 3rd year of a CS degree and have thought about doing a dual bachelors in Data Analytics, however, I'd be curious to explore the certifications potentially in its place. Which of the certifications would you recommend the most?
I’m wondering how to find remote works
I'm also currently on that journey. I would recommend setting up a LinkedIn as it's easy to find a ton of remote job postings there and there are a lot of free networking tools that you can use to build a brand. While I have heard that applying for postings can be a large shot in the dark having and developing your LinkedIn can give you a much higher online presence for recruiters to spot you!
@@elliottvaughn700 thanks but sometimes have no idea the company accept ppl in the North America or not, I’m currently looking for some freelance jobs
Do you think it is possible to be a data analyst as a student
Wonderful video josh keep making video like this. can you give me some portfolio projects ideas i just completed google analytics cert now i am going to make some personal project please suggest me some real life ideas. Again Thank You for wonderful content.
Have that content planned. Will be coming up soon
@@joshbrindley5652 That's Good. I'm waiting.
May I ask about the Google Data Analytics course you did? Was it Coursera?
How long did it take you to complete? And any tips?
I ask because I am interested in Dara Analytics and have been recommended the Coursera Cert.
It is a great place to start. How long it takes depends what level you're at and how much time you have. I did it mainly to review to see if it would be worth my team taking, and it is good.
It is a broad overview, once complete you should then work specifically on projects that align to your goals, such as working in a specific domain like HR or Sales and focus on aspects you like, such as dashboard design, insight generation, product ownership
Thank you for this video, Josh..truly what I needed. Is it easier to get a 100% data analyst remote job where I can work for a company in another country?
A fully remote position on another country is a unicorn. Sure they exist, but are rare. Most remote positions still hire within their region, so they can at least have occasional meetings in person. When a true 100% remote job does come up, your competition for the job is global, so very difficult to find. It is easier to find freelance work if remote is what you're looking for.
@@joshbrindley5652 Wow. Thanks for the quick response..so like on contract? can I still be able to charge the same while freelancing like I did if full-time?
Depends on the freelancing gig you get. Some pay for a contractual amount of time. Usually this pay could be higher because they don't pay benefits. Sometimes you can get hired for a project or piece of work with a 1 time price. In the past I've calculated the hours needed, considered the complexity of the task and charged based on an hourly or day rate. Super simple task, then I charge less. Very complex and specific, then ai charge more as the knowledge is more specialist
@@joshbrindley5652 That's really insightful. Thanks for the tip on billing! However, I know freelancing doesn't give that stability that full time offers. And is more about your personal network. You mentioned that finding a fully remote job is a unicorn in the data analysis industry. Is there any industry, from your current knowledge and expertise, that you know where getting a fully remote full time job from a company in another country is possible?
Yes, freelancing can not be stable, some see that as a positive, but depends on your situation. I do it a little part time around a main job, but i wouldnt yet rely on it. As far as I know, it isn't yet common practise to fully remote hire from other countries. But there is a community of people called Digital Nomads who do it. You could look into that and they'd have a lot of information about how to get into it, what sort of jobs to pursue etc
I am doing Google data Analytics course but I think This is not enough for me. Plz Guide me Brother. I am from india and belong to middle class family
Great how i start
Do you think data analytics and data science are the same thing?
Nope. Similar in application relevant to business though.
@@joshbrindley5652 can you please do a video about data science inclusive of study material thanks
i think it would be better if you remove the background music at the beginning, it was annoying.
Are chances super low to get a job without a degree even if you have the knowledge?
Hey Josh, will chat gpt replace the data analyst profession? I am investing a lot of time in this and really worried due to chat gpt.
Don't need to worry sir, chatgpt can only make your work efficient, it cannot replace any job. It's like your assistant.
But you have to keep learning. All the best sir.
@@Akshay-if5im Thanks, that's really comforting.
No it won't. Whilst chat gpt is good at understanding a plainly worded question then reading data and producing an answer. Like "what are our monthly sales?" Chat gpt would read a data set and answer that.
But chat gpt doesn't create data pipelines, interpret data in the context of business, produce influential insights etc. And tbh those questions into data tools have already existed for a few years now. We're safe for now
@@joshbrindley5652 Thanks a lot. This assures me I am not wasting time.

Are any certificates worth it for getting hired?
Hi Josh, is there a demand for data scientist in dubai ? I will graduate in 10 months in montreal with a machine learning and ai degree from college, is there any great opportunities ? Thank you and happy new year
Hi Josh. I am looking for career change. I am a software engineer with 3 years experience in python, sql, react js.. However I want to shift to data analysis. I completed the course from Google data analysis for professional, and worked on couple of projects.. But unfortunately I am not getting any jobs. I have hands on experience in EDA. But not much knowledge in modelling or training the data. Please help me out
Have you tried freelancing? Are the projects in your portfolio original or from tutorials or courses? Do you provide links to your projects in your job application?
Great video! Do you recommend any certification that involves Python instead of R?
I think that would depend on your area. This is just me saying this, but I think Python is more common although that could just be in my region, it might be different where you are.
@@joshbrindley5652 I didn't know the popularity of Python or R depends on the area. Ok, I will move to an area that is Python friendly because I already know some Python and I do not want to start learning R now. Can you recommend a data analytics/science certification that is based on Python and not R? 😀 Thank you!
That's my assumption, I just don't want to say python is globally the most popular everywhere.
Well 99% of know python for data science is knowing the application and methods, not the tool. It doesn't matter in Python the line of code to load a csv is slightly different to the syntax for R. It's about know what you're trying to achieve. So if you know data science in python, applying it to R is a case of spending a couple hours learning the basics of R and loading packages then you're good to go.
Thank you! Very helpful
Josh do we need to know ETL as well? Do we need to know excel VBA?
ETL yes, but it is not a key strength. Excel VBA I know nothing about, so I guess no. But this is company specific, there are definitely some companies heavily relying on Excel VBA
Have you become data analyst yet. If yes please help me
Can i get any help from you to build a resume please help me out i know some skills of data analysis
Hi Josh. What is the starting salary for a Data Analyst? And what are the salaries compared to programmers, are they significantly less or not?
And is it possible to work as a Data Analyst and create your own time during the day or is it strictly from 9am-5pm for example?
Greetings
I'm not super familiar with programming salary, but a data analyst can expect around $80k. But similar to programming there are so many levels and specialised roles. A java coder for a Web company will get less than a coder on specialist systems. In data, different domains and specialisations will get paid more or less. There's also growth potential. Data analyst career track can lead to managing teams, leading analytics for a company which is high paying.
It is typically a 9 to 5 but its project based. Meaning, for example a customer service job they have tasks to do between those 9 to 5, a data analyst will typically have projects. If you're on track with those projects, there is time to do other things. I have a normal office job but can find a bit of time each week to focus on things outside the job.
@@joshbrindley5652 bro i am not a good python coder in data analyst. Can I still get job if i know other skills. Like my programming is really weak i just do not know how to write code for numpy and panda

@@upskill8585 I am not Josh but i am a data analyst and my skills are Excel, SQL, Tableau and Power BI. I just started using python after 1 1/2 year on my data analyst position, I will say all depends on the company that you are applying to, on my case i am pretty good at excel and tableau, and still learning SQL and Power BI. So if I did it , You also can get a job as a data analyst.
We need excel's skils ?
Absolutely
What if my iq and awareness is very low

Thank you so much Josh, you are an angel from Heaven sent from Jesus's balls himself
How much do you earn as a data analyst in dubai?
There's a large range. Remember that Dubai is tax free, so the money is the take home. A data analyst can get between 11000 to 20000 a month. Then going as a manager or senior can get more.
Data analysis or Bookkeeping, Which is more important for a business man?
@@joshbrindley5652that’s in AED or USD?
Hello sir hi i really need a small favour
Is this job 100% remote ?
Depends on the company, some are remote, and others are in office.
