- This 100+ Year Old Candy Is Still Made The Same Today! Chocolate drops have been a part of the Hercules Candy tradition since we started over a hundred years ago. Passing off the technique to Max and Cooper is such an amazing practice to watch. We show you how it's all made from starch to finish.

Good job, Cooper! Nothing like learning a new task with thousands of people watching.
I know right!? He's a good sport about that
Pv
@@user-do7lp9fl8i they’ve been making the drops for 100 years is what they were saying.....the process is the same not necessarily the ingredients are the same.
@@user-do7lp9fl8i I asked if they made their own corn syrup, but I didn't phrase the question very clearly.
I can't believe anyone would mention the amount of sugar used. It's candy.
lol right like what else do they think candy is made of.
@@Divine-cx8qy Why are you watching this?
Lol my first thought was "omg... that's a lot of corn syrup. O.O"
It’s So dumb lol, like they think the candy has something else that’s healthy for you in it 🤷🏼♂️ 😂 one video I watched on this channel and this girl literally goes “omg if my mom saw how much sugar was in that bowl she’d never let me eat candy again” 🤣🤣 and I said “well luckily they break it down into very small, manageable bite size pieces, you know you’re not actually eating 25 pounds worth of sugar when you eat a piece of taffy right?” 🤣😆🤦♂️🤦♂️ people are so clueless I swear lol
@@Divine-cx8qy it’s not poison anymore than pasta is poison. It’s the “amount” that we consume and our lust for gluttony that is poison. If you ate a teaspoon or two of pure cane sugar once a day everyday and that was the only sugar you ate daily, you would be fine. And that’s assuming you’re exceeding your bmr’s calorie amount.
Must be very stressful for Cooper learning all this while he's being filmed, but he seems to be doing a very good job!
Max learned it all while being filmed.
@@rachelgibson1858 YEP!
As a positive it also gives him a resource to watch back later to help identify mistakes and improve on
Please tell cooper he is doing a fantastic job !!!🧡🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Max and the slo-mo corn syrup...Perfect Friday morning treat!
Glad the new guy ist camera shy and is willing to do anything new and challenging!! even though max makes everything look easy lmao
It'll be cool to seem him progress just like Max did!
I love how the conversation just naturally flows.
It's so awesome to see Max become the teacher now :)
It's come full circle!
Tuesday and Friday are becoming my favorite days of the week! This channel is addicting 😊
Thanks Carol!
Almost as addicting as the candy!
Yikes! I'm glad that meltdown with the beater power cable didn't cause any more serious issues. Cooper seems like he's coming along good, doing creams/drops so soon.
Max always smells his food before he eats!
Always!
He eats with his senses. Love it!
Couldn't sleep and this makes it even better for me! 😁
We're here for ya!
Watching the corn syrupbeing scooped out by hand is still amazing to me 🤩
Max never fails to captivate
We can really hear Max now that he’s miked up
You all remember when we watched Max drop creams for the first time? Now we're watching Cooper! Great job, dude!
Too much fun. Love the team. I always wished Steve could get a team so good he could live life. I know he won't retire but if he could go on vacation with no worries or closing the store. Or just sit at home and brew. I been watching and subed so long it's like an extension of my family. Much love god bless. Hercules candy simply the best.
The eventual plan is for them to be able step back and just work part time and enjoy semi-retirement
That is the best news ever. Thank you. Love you to Craig just didn't understand why so many apologies ( live steam footage ). I hope you all and the rest of the world have a blessed day.
Max and Joe seem ready to handle anything in production. I think Cara is learning Terry's job, specifically the work orders. It would be awesome if Steve and Terry could go for a nice vacation for 2 weeks and not have to worry about the store. So many great people working there who know what they're doing! Must feel good after all those years of working out of the house, and not being able to hire people because there was no room for more bodies!
aw cooper is so cute ! It’s gonna be fun watching him learn new things and seeing you 3 interact
I love the slow motion shots. Very awesome.
Thanks Alejandro!
You got a whole Lucy and Ethel thing going on. From I Love Lucy show back in the 1950’s
Karen is right, they are very delicate. Ordered two bags in my last order and most of the bottoms were cracked open. It didn't deter from enjoying them.. My Favorite!!! Can't wait until Fall so I can order again.
I'm glad you liked them!
Ahhh you fast forwarded through my favorite part of creams. The cream machine! I love watching that spin when the cream turns white...
My absolute favorite candy that y’all make are the peanut butter and marshmallow fluff cups. In fact, I think it’s time for another order today. Love your candy AND videos! ❤️
This was a fun video! Thank you for sharing!
I worked at a small tourist Fudge and Soda shop (yes I was a soda jerk and hand mixed soda, so much fun!) We didn't make the Candys like this ourselves, didn't even sell it, but we did make some simpler candies and I loved it. I always wondered how these types of candies are made by hand. I must say one of my favorite things to do was weigh candies out and package them. I know I am weird, but the satisfaction is so real when you get the weight right on the money first try and getting the labels on perfectly!
Here in Australia and also UK we call it cornflour not cornstarch
Here, in Denmark, we use potatoflour for starch mould making - works equally well.
Here in the us, corn flour and corn starch are 2 different things.
Interesting! In the States, corn flour is used for baking and corn starch is a thickener for soups, etc.
In answer to the question. Starch and cellulose are carbs that are not sugar.
Carbs break down into simple sugars in the stomach
Fascinating
I just watched half an hour of candy making and now I'm going to watch the rest of your videos!
I hope you guys always have as much fun at work as you seemed to.
I just loved Max so much, hope is is good!
Not too shabby for only having filled cream molds a couple of times. You're gettin' the hang of it PDQ! Live how encouraging Max and Craig are.
After quite a while of not watching your video’s, I came back. Still as awesome to watch as it always was!
Them: "Someone's gotta do it" "Might as well be the Big Bad Boss"
Me: "Isn't Terry usually busy with office work, though?" 😂
Thank you such a GREAT video!!
Love all your candy making ! ♥️
My grandfather died more than 50 years ago and these candy drops were his all-time favorite treat. It’s all he ever wanted for Christmas, every year.
Love everyone new your mom is good at finding the right people.....✌✌✌❤❤❤🍫🍫🍫🍫
She's got a knack for it!
been binge watching all the videos and got to say my favourite parts are the packaging bits. Could watch a whole stream/video of it LOL
Cooper is doing great with dropping the creams. He's a quick learner - and also a lefty like Max?
Also people with gluten allergies couldn’t have the candies if they were casted in flour instead of cornstarch. Truly thankful you guys do it this way for my little one especially who can’t have gluten (flour) ❤️🙌🏻❤️
the fondant making machine with the hot plug it needs a service. Hot plugs can catch fire and cause electric shock be careful
I saw smoke!
Yeah, the plug has already been replaced by now, safety first!
@@HerculesCandy Check that socket aswell. Usually hot/melting connectors are a result of a bad connection in the socket, which makes alot of power run through a very tiny portion of the connector - essentially heating it up. If you're constantly using the same socket for that machine and constantly plugging it in and unplugging it I'd have a electrician look at it and replace the wall socket.
You are all so funny and good-natured xD A joy to watch
GOO is always an excellent start. LOVE goo.
Starch is just the carbohydrate of the grain, with everything else stripped away. Flour has varying degrees of the rest of the grain in it, depending on the type of flour. For example, whole grain vs all purpose. So, it is technically corn starch you are working with, and not cornflour.
Cornstarch/cornflour are one and same depending what part of the country your from and corn meal is totally a different animal … lol 😆
@@revrontalbot6911 In England they call corn starch “corn flour.” I’ve never seen it sold as corn flour in the US.
I wonder what they call wheat starch? :-)
How long can you use the corn starch until you replace it
I have read that corn starch can last almost indefinitely. I recommend a website called Still Tasty.
Out of all the candy that I've bought from you, I haven't tried those yet. They look delish. Cooper did an awesome job dropping the creams. Thanks for the fun vidya, Craig:)
Just lovely! Homemade with love ❤
Hi Max and every one thank you for sharing everything.God bless you all.
It's Science with Max!
Starch to Finish
Watching Max handling corn syrup is a treat😄 Craig and Max and Cooper together in the starch room🤓 so many big thoughts .
Purple ? 😮🥳
Foreshadowing!
Max makes every video fun to watch.
Really good vanilla ice cream isn’t white.
lol - and neither is genuine butter yellow …
My mother loved chocolate drops. They were very popular during her childhood and a special treat. I think most confectionaries made them but, for some reason, as the neighborhood candy makers died out so did the popularity of chocolate drops.
My dogs name is Cooper and every time one of you says his name my dog looks at me like “what?” Big fan of your channel, thanks for all the videos 😊
I look every morning to see if you've added a new video but I love watching the oldest ones for fun
This was one of my dad's favorite candies, this and cherry cordials. Every birthday, Christmas and Father's day. Yum 😋
Y’all remind me of having fun with my family as a kid(I farmed micro greens but). and I’m still trying to find a job a mar great as those times. Awesome y’all work as a team skill. Last of a dying breed
Our father loved this candy. He usually got several bags during Christmas holidays (it might have been a different brand here in Texas). It was hard to find the rest of the year. Candy shops and country stores had it once in a while.
Thanks for stirring the memories.
Absolutely amazing. I remember these from my childhood. Yum
One of my favourites that you make! Order a package every time I order! 😊
My grandparents had these candies at every Christmas. It's still my most favorite candy.
I was very lucky a number of years ago to visit a small candy company in Lancaster Pennsylvania (Miesses Candies), and saw a lot of the equipment that's in this video. They weren't producing very much at the time, so I didn't get to see some of the things happen as I did in this video. Thank you for producing such a wonderful product.
Awesome video guys and girls! Yum!
Corn starch allows the candy to come out of the shape. Flour would absorb the liquid.
Amazing that after more than 100 years the candies are still being “hand-made” … so many of candies are massed produced and loses flavor and quality.
The sad thing is the small businesses who still make decent hand made candies and chocolates are patronized for the prices because people are used to the cheap mass produced stuff... Its really sad that not many people know how to appreciate good quality candy, made from good quality ingredients.
@@ellevictor474 so true!!!!
On the other hand hand-made does not necessarily equate to good quality. Crucial are the ingredients, whether you use them by hand or in a mashine is rather less relevant.
Anja is correct (they're even using some basic machinery in this video). In addition, check your memory! Many traditional hand made lollies/sweets/candies are very low on flavour (it's not uncommon for them to be simply "sugar" flavoured too).
It’s all the extra hair shedded in the product, from not wearing gloves, arm guards.
What an incredible labor of love. Great job ya'll. 👏👏👏🇺🇲❤🇺🇲
I just got my vanilla cream drops yesterday and DUDE!!! OMG the best i've ever had!! So much softer than anything from the local stores!!
Thank you for the videos xxoo
This is sooooo satisfying to watch.
Do a video on the history of the family and how it started.
I taught critical care physiology to both doctors and nurses. Carbohydrates are a classification of nutrient that contain a caboxyl group and include anything that, when broken down, release one or more sugar molecules. Sugar molecules include glucose, which is the main component of sugar; fructose, lactose, galactose. People sometimes include alcohols, which isn’t correct. There are several sugar alcohols that can affect blood sugar but they fall under alcohols. Hope this clears up the carbohydrate discussion. Forgot to tell you how much I enjoy your channel. I’ve tried ordering some items but they aren’t available.
These were my dad’s favorite candy and he would drive across town to get a bag of them. Wonderful memory.
I never realized how oddly satisfying making candy is
You know it's a Herc Candy vid when you start with a big corn syrup plop
I do appreciate camera man trying to dispell the carb vilification.
Back in 1950s, every Saturday my grandparents would dress up in their best clothes and go downtown to shop and meet up with their siblings (twins married brothers). Grandpa called them Haystacks and he would go to the candy counter at J.C. Penny’s and buy six ounces. If I good (and lucky) he would share with me.
❤️❤️❤️ one on my favorites!!! this is gonna sound crazy, but trust me... I've been eating chocolate drops like this all my life. My entire family eats them this way... Smash one flat between your palms, and make a sandwich with it between 2 saltines.... Out of this world good!!! Try it...
💚 I can't describe how much I love these
Commenters: That's a lot of sugar
Candy maker: WE'RE MAKING CANDY
Only Karen can threaten someone with so much sweetness.
Great job cooper.
Great job Cooper!!!
Lol I love how Steve came to spy when the creme was being poured into the machine 😂
IDK if this has been said but the reason you use corn startch instead of flour is because when flour is exposed to the moisture from whatever youre casting it begins to form gluten and glyoden protein chains that essentially turn it into bread dough and would stick to the candies since it doesnt revert back once the water evaporates. This doesnt happen in cornstarch, it simply absorbs the water and then evaporates it out without any major chemical change
Thank you for being both educational and entertaining 😊especially while I've been trying several new hobbies throughout these strange times, I'm in the UK, and was wondering if you have tried our old fashioned English flavours? Humbug, rhubarb and custard, blackcurrant and Licorice and pear drops, to name a few 🤔
Man! I would love to work there too. It just doesn't get old.
The discussion about what the starch molds are made out of made me think of 3D printing, I bet you could make some crazy shapes with a 3D printed mold.
Love to see max. He is film magic.
hi Hercules candy I am a big fan I have been watching for a long time and I will be ordering from you guys I love all of you I am from Canada
Cooper welcome to the team, good luck.
I Don't mind all the Sugar. Because of the End result. So you just keep using the Sugar. Happy Crafting your Wonderful looking Candy's. Sending hugs your way from over here in the UK.💞💞❤️💞💞
Max is so cute!!!
It looks amazing :)
The moisture in the candy would absorb flour, not true with corn starch. Same concept using rice flour in making a bread from a wet dough like sourdough. 💖
You guys are going to have to have that plug rewired! I could see it smoking! The Aerator for the Creams is becoming a safety issue. No electrocution allowed! EEK!
Was thinking the same.
Love that you guys just "casually talk" . Keeps it interesting:
Awesome job, Cooper! Max, you are a great teacher...calm and supportive! Am I the only viewer who thinks the vanilla drops look like the eggs from Alien as Max brushes the cornstarch off? Another great video, Craig and Dylan! 😁😁😁
Haha now that you mention it I can't unsee it 😂
@@HerculesCandy 🤣🤣🤣
Can we please have a video on using old metal moulds? would be great to see how the are used compared to plastic x
My favorite part is the corn starch and the flower. Idky its so relaxingg
So.. not only is this dude making candy
With a recipe that is over a hundred years old…
But he lives in the Harry Potter world with dragons.
Epic.
Liked it a rare video without music so you can enjoy the talk and comments plus explanation from the maker himself !
All I can think of now is Lucy and Ethyl working in a candy factory and epically failing at dipping candy.
Been awhile since ive watched one of your videos but loving the short hair Max
