- We almost lost all of the candy made... This Batch Was So Ruined We Had To Throw Part Of It Out! It was a wonder that anything was able to be shipped when you see what happened with the candy. How did we get it to be this way? Is there any coming back? Will the New candy maker Cooper keep his job?!?! (Ya he will we need him.) Banana, and Blueberry cheesecake hard candy make their way into this batch and other than this sticky situation, we'd say we did a sweet job!

A lot of people have been asking why we didn't just break up the candy and sell it as an "oops bag" at a lower price. We actually do that from time to time, but this batch of candy was so sticky that it didn't even meet out oops candy bag standards.
I know. I hate to see all of the ingredients wasted. Hard work of making it thrown away. And, sticky as it was, it was also probably delicious!
Good quality controll
When is their going to be a spice candy?
Sorry for your loss of the candy. Was the room temp cool enough or the candy didn't get cooked long enough? I've had that happened to me when I made hard candy and it came out sticky. Wasn't to happy. Waste of ingredients.
I see possibly a new Bark in the near futuređđđ€â€â€
When Corporate finds out, oh buddy! đ€Ł
Donât tell Terry
Oh no!
oh no! their beer-buckets will get reduced to just root beer!
And Cara won't get paid for a year!
Respectfully, do you calibrate your thermometer? I worked at a lab and it was crucial to test thermometer accuracy monthly to get good results. Happy to see you working!
I love the way you scrap out the kettle and use the whole batch. Most other lollie makers donât. đđ
I can't believe it when bowls aren't scraped!
@@splendidcakes Yeah, I don't think Papa Bubble does.
Wait. This could be Tutti Fruity bark (with Corporateâs approval, of courseâŠ)
His technique is getting better at pulling! Great to see how well he's been learning and making candy.
As for the 'oops' candy. I'd still eat it. đ€Łđ„°
Lmfao, that profile picture xD
@@Outlawjankooo I'm a fan of my unicorn masks. đ„°đŠ
@@Valmtg i love it
Yeah he's a fast learner!
Wow look at Cooper go with his blue gloves. You can tell how much he's learned and how comfortable he's becoming! Good job!!!!
Humidity is a such a thing for candy. It helps when you're making a cooked candy fudge though. Still a great watch though! So sorry for the partial loss on that batch đ
It has to feel so great making Steve proud. New kid fits right in, seems super smart & kind!
I love the ending!!! Even your sarcasim is adorable :)
Your loyal followers want to buy your rejects, what a compliment! Sell it all, make us happy!
Oh my, it's such a shame to lose so much product. I hope you can learn a lesson and come back better than ever. Love y'all.
Wow! Sad that you lost that hard candy! Science and chemistry... that's all I have to say! It affects everything! You learn something new every day...great job salvaging the remaining candy, Steve and Cooper. Good video, Craig! đ
Cooper seems to be getting really comfortable â€ïžyou guys seem to know how to pick good fits for the candy family!!đâ€ïž
STEVE CAN CRUSH THE CLUMPS CANDY INTO BARK CHOCOLATE
Donât sell it as oops candy, sell it as a sculpture. Title it â Manâs Search for Happiness.â
That candy in the trash was hard to look at. I thought it was going to be broken up and bagged with a special label. With a dehumidifier stuff like that shouldn't happen.
They have a dehumidifier built into their AC system
@@ogs5276 yes that's why I said what I did. Maybe it malfunctioned.
The part that was stuck together that bad, you could have had like oopsie bags of candies, if they tasted fine but they were just sticky, they would have been fine as a bag of oopsies!! (I would have bought them!!)
I doubt anyone wanna pay for a bag of messed up products
@@nbaprince9330 theyâre just stuck together, It doesnât change the way they taste. And if youâve ever tried Hercules candy before, you most DEFIANTLY would buy a bag of mistakes hard candies! These guys make the most AMAZING and DELICIOUS candy EVER!!!
But I understand why you would think that!đ
@@hollypierce3076 but thatâs not the point the point is Iâm paying so I want it right thatâs like going to Starbucks and buying a mocha and they give you Carmel itâs still good so you move on ?
@@nbaprince9330 it's cheaper as a bag of oopsies, it also helps reduce waste and people who may not be able to pay for the full price still get to be involved, it works well for both parties and the environment
@@nbaprince9330 bakeries and candy shops do this all the time, and guess what? People do pay for it. Itâs not the regular price of their âgoodâ products, itâs reduced. But since thereâs nothing actually wrong with it, just broken cookies or candy, it would be a shame to just toss it.
Hi Hercules family! đđ» That was a new one. Never ever saw that happen before with any candy. Not even in the basement. There's a first for everything. đ
Even though you have temperature control you might want to get a small dehumidifier for the candy making room. Wouldn't hurt to have it.
Well done Cooper! You're gaining more confidence & doing a wonderful job. Thanks for another great video đđ±
That super sophisticated reverse psychology at the end was a genius move.
I love how we have a max 2.0 and his name is cooper. I also love how descriptive he is on taste testing cooper keep up the good work I are getting better you make a great addition to the familyđ
Hard candy is so pretty when you first start folding the color in.
The mix of colors look like fall leaves.đđ would be great to do for Fall.
I come for the wholesome family fun and never ending supply of corny dad joke⊠and Iâm never disappointed! Lol keep up the awesome work guys and gals!
Craig, those Hitchcock shots in the intro are amazing. So smooth and steady. They gave me vertigo! LOL
Why thank you!
I love how Craig keeps saying ''threatening'' lollll
Same haha
Maybe for the sticky candy you could break it up for bark as some say, also for the "salvagableable" peices you could dust them with a confectioners sugar, confectioners sugar/cornstarch mix and/or just a bit of cornstarch to "dry" it a bit for an oopsie bag batch? That way if you do do some oopsie bags you may be able to keep it from clumping again.
I have done this with my cinnamon hard candy. My candy is just cooled on a baking sheet. Broken up by cracking with a butter knife handle and if it feels sticky I coat it in the confectioners sugar and bag it. It does fine for me.
I loved the ending, was full of âdonâtsâ, if I didnât like and subscribe I would miss out on all the fun. No way Steve and crew, I wouldnât want to miss out on any of your shenanigans! Another great job đ. đđ
Sell the stuck candy as candy boulders.. and sell them as edible art for a premium lol
I want to work in a place like this, but I'd be sweating like crazy for sure.
I work packaging foods with machines in a cooler and I still get too hot. And if they make me work in the non-cooler area I start dying (which happened yesterday đł). I considered applying to a sweet shop when I was looking for a job, would've been wrapping chocolates, but it was just a tad too inconvenient to get to and minimum wage (I'm assuming. Keep in mind it's zero experience needed [nor do I have any] and they didn't post the wage). But then I found a job at my current company which started above minimum and I got to work in a cooler environment. Now that I've had a couple department changes at least I can say I have more useful experience (especially the machining part) if I ever find a different job that pays well.
Aaanyway, no one cares. My main comment was just the first sentence, haha.
i care, thank you for sharing, please get your lungs checked , my mom was the same she couldnt be without AC i thought it was menopause but it was her lungs and she passed away on sept 1
Nah bro. Your all good. Cool stuff, your experience and career progression will go upwards the more you get older. Keep being yourself dude. Glad you've shared.
Please don't throw it away @Hercules Candy đą just make a chocolate bark mix with the ruin hard candy đĄđ
Ohhhhhhhh!!!! I think you are on to something!!!đđđđđ
That was my first thought too. 100%
The reason we didn't is because the texture is completely different when it's that sticky and it doesn't even meet our oops candy bag standards.
Just call it a candy geode, sell it with a tiny hammer and chisel or pickaxe. I've been too deep in the prospecting part of CZcams lately.
This is actually genius đ
I was like, never throw out candy.
Dude thats a great idea. As long as it tastes good thats all I need đ
It doesnt look like a geode tho
10/10 geologists and miners would buy this
Looks delicious! I just love everyone's personalities, especially Steve's!
Blueberry cheesecake!!! Yummy đ I hope thereâs some available for me to order!! I really hope that you guys do something with cheesecake for the candy canes this year!! Oh and pumpkin spice cheesecake would be great for autumn !!(can you tell that cheesecake is my favorite dessert ever!!
I love seeing Max walking through doing other things. He's not on hard candy duty today. Lol
Good job guys đ... This year's humidity all over the US has been righteous!! đ„đ„.. I've had two heat exhaustion episodes in public, I've never experienced those in my life. And no rain to ease it, nowhere. Last winter and this summer weather has been very different! But could be the flavoring amount also like you mentioned. Either way, ya got er done đ
Oh wow, I recently discovered your channel and I love it. Great content đđ
I feel for you. I make soap and skin products and sometimes mixing fragrances can make a batch of soap totally misbehave and itâs so frustrating. Or Iâll be making bath bombs and they wonât even stick bc of humidity in Illinois. So I donât even offer them in summer. Iâm so sorry this happened and I feel your pain đ„ș
Love the new way you did this opening !!!
Thatâs heartbreaking to see all that work in the trash.
Idk why Iâve been watching so many of these but I want to learn how to make candy like this now lol you guys should have classes. I wouldnât want it as a job but it would be fun to make a big batch and learn the tricks of the trade
Come on out to Utah. We are nice and dry here. We often have 8-10% humidity here.
Now we know why you never made hard candy in the basement during summer!
I take it you can't turn the humidity down any further on the HVAC?
Love the way they scrape the bowl, satisfying 100% of the timeâŠ
Also did you ask the higher ups about the cherry and coconut idea that I commented about a couple weeks ago? đđ»đ
They are the higher ups haha. I think sometimes they have polls where viewers can submit new flavors though :)
@@blackandwhitegamingproduct7356 I know they are the higher ups, it was a joke Craig made to me on my last comment, he was referring to his parents đđ
Cherry and coconut? Interesting combo, I think itâd be good but idk đ€
@@dominicw8868 Well its a pretty good combo, in Australia they have it and its called Cherry Ripe lol
@@rachael551 I looked it up, looks bomb, Iâm honestly not sure if Iâve ever seen it in the US or not I canât remember.
Happy customers; yuck! Steve always makes me laugh. â€ïž
Stirring the liquid candy away from the exhaust fans created a whole bunch of steam (humidity) in the air! I noticed it right away and wondered if it would be a problem.
Sad some had to be thrown out. You all work so hard.
Love that sizzle sound too!!
Yeah Max is back!!
Cooper, your skills are improving so fast! Youâll be a pro by Christmas
Still amazes me how you fit all of that stuff in that tiny basement! Just doesn't seem possible! Lol. I'm going to order soon I've been saving up so it's going to be a fun time and tasty at my house! Lol
They uploaded a video recently of walking through the old house and mentioned, they didn't! They expanded their selection after moving to the store
It would be cool to do a strawberries and cream hard candy, like the candy from back in the day!
"Happy customers, yuck!" đ
Love my Maxykins but am glad that Cooper is getting equal screen time with Steve!!!!
Awesome video, as always! We visited the store the other day,and we had a super time. Although, most of the candy is already goneđ. We loved meeting terry, but we're sad that we did not see the carmakers in action! Anyway, have an amazing day, and I hope the hard candy dosen 't give you any more trouble!
Well thanks for visiting the shop Madeleine! Assuming you filled up since you didnât have to pay for shipping do you have a favorite?
@@HerculesCandy I loved the dark chocolate pecan turtles, and the hard candy is always bomb!
Yay cooper getting better now đ
It took me a minute to figure out why you were rotating the big chunk of candy; that metal half-pipe lookin' thing is a heater isn't it? Gotta rotate it for even heating so it's still pliable while you work with it. That's pretty cool (like that table you use).
I checked out your website looking for the blueberry cheesecake hard candy. Are you guys going to start making it regularly?? I sure hope sođđđ
Always a yummy vidya, Craig. Too bad about the candy slab at the end.
Hit it with the hammer and then put it in a food processor and when it's real fine just add it to melted chocolate. I grind up my werthers hard candy and then add it to melted chocolate, after word's it tastes like a heath bar. It always makes a big hit.
I wonder if the flavoring, itself, can be reduced and concentrated by doing a trial test boil or simmer? Say like, a 1/2 cup. I guess ya shouldn't need to but, to save on further issue. We love watching your content!
I found that if a batch of hard candy I make is sticky, is because of humidity is to high or the coloring doesn't have the water in it boiled out. I make hard candy almost year round and to deal with the moisture content of the candy I like to cook the batch to 325 degrees and that works for me
Wonderingđ€. With the weird temperatures the States have been experiencing, Iâm wondering if you will have to permanently adapt your workspace to accommodate change? Itâs not candy-makingâŠitâs basically sweet tasting chemistry.
Cooper shouldâve been able to detect it since he didnât have to slam the cutter as hard and when he would toss it into the pile it didnât sound as hard. Oh wow I just saw him have to scrape it off the cutter! Oh and I guess everyone was commenting on the stickiness already
For the spicy candies, try mango, lime, with a tiny bit of spicy, âŠ. Donât use a sharp heat, because it burns without flavor. You want a more muted heat. Once you perfect the candy, hopefully not too spicy, because the best part would be encrusting/pressing the candy into a coating, like TajĂn. Or you could make your own, but TajĂn is a name brand. I little spicier than TajĂn would be nice.
đđđđđhappy customers yâall are toooo funny
use a clean mallet and sell that sticked candy at discount price like "special cndy" or something, you know we would buy it regardless of its shape đđđ
You could smash up the big candy clumps into candy dust for things like cake or ice cream toppings
Or use it in a candy bark, like they do orange candy for the orange bark, or peppermint for peppermint bark. Really, just about everything is better if you cover it in chocolate!
Is it possible that the extra stickiness came either from the fact that the candy wasnât as hot when you added the color therefore didnât sizzle the excess water out, or the new that you had to use so much of actually contained more water? Could it be that excess water either way was the problem?
Any chance of a video one day of yâall cleaning the kettles?
Have you tried measuring the flavoring and colorant into the second kettle before you pour in the liquid candy? Then it would boil off the added liquid better and not be so difficult to handle?
Just put that big chunk of candy in a FEDEX box I will eat it!
me too!
So sorry you lost some of these candies. I have never seen this happen.
Should of siliconed it and used it as a doorstop or display!!
Now that's a good idea đ
Itâs been humid in Syracuse
Thank you
That amber candy color is so lovely
No candy can EVER be ruined. LOL
Great video!
You ainât no Steve, but you are doing great!
Humidity only reached the top candy, it never touched what was underneath that's why it was loose. Cover it with paper on humid days.
was it really humid its been super humid here where I live
Final analysis: MmmMmm, Tasty! Cooper does a good job of articulating the flavors he's experiencing. Well done!
The left handed struggle is real! My wife and youngest daughter are lefties
Tell me about it lmao
Right hand people ugh
Left handed people are always in their right mind. :0D
Wicked cool, guys. Just came across ur channel. Def subscribing. Awesome job!
Thanks so much!
I make hard candy myself and it sometimes goes sticky on me, but I do live in a very high humid area. (Wales in the U.K.) I thought maybe I was using to much flavouring in my candy batch. Bubble Gum always come out perfect for some reason. I will keep tweaking my ingredients. I do love watching all of you making candy.
Love your videos and the Hercules crew. I was wondering if you guys would make a black licorice hard candy. I love the flavour. Sorry to see the candy didnât turn out but like everyone is saying. Iâll take it. Lol. So take care and stay safe. â„ïžfrom Melfort,Saskatchewan. Canada.
What about getting a dehumidifier to take the moisture from the air?
Oddly very satisfying to watch
Too bad on the lost candy. It sounded tasty đ
"Happy customers? Yuck!"
lolz
I wanna get a job there and start making gummys
Oh no why was it thrown out itâs still sugar đđ
Me head first into the garbage can digging out the clean pieces on top......
No judging please
You just feel free to send the super sticky boulders to me! I'm pretty sure I could manage to eat it đ
When I was a kid, my stocking always had the kind of candy in this video. I had a few pieces, but the rest formed a cement candy brick. So, ya...
You need to donate your imperfect candy to charity.
Oh no.. That's a shame about the banana. Lorann's doesn't have a good banana flavor? They're the only brand I'll use when I make candy at Christmas time. The humidity has been awful lately. In Ohio it was at 97% at 6 am. I was dying. I haven't been able to catch up on videos in a while. I like the new guy. Good fit for the Hercules family. Tell Max he has some competition when it comes to reviewing the candy flavors. This guy is thorough.. haha
Their never so sticky you couldn't sell them something is better that nothin please don't tell us you had to throw any away that's to much to hear
Forget the oops bags. Make a new one time only bark! I found out not to put hard candy on my pocket when I go out to do yard work. It all stuck together. I used my little craft hammer to break the pieces up. No way was I going to throw away 10 mystery pieces of candy.
