    ℹ️About the episode:
It's been said that memory is the second thing to go. What was the first thing again? The funny thing about important numbers, they are awfully hard to remember when you're barreling toward a low clearance bridge. And the faster you're going... the harder it is to remember!
We strongly suggest keeping a placard or label visible to the driver so there is no question when faced with a low clearance pass. In this video, we were pretty certain we were under 12' 8", but also couldn't remember the exact height of our rig. We thought it would be better to stop and measure than take any chances with our air conditioning units. The Heartland during the summer is not when you want to be without AC!
We've been playing around with low clearance route apps and have found only two that we think are helpful. Allstays bit.ly/AllStays which we use almost daily anyway to find RV parks and Truck Map www.truckmap.com Truck Map is free and I like that I can add Loves or Pilot on my routes.
While we were in Jackson, MS we visited to Cafezinho for a Patreon KYD Insider meet-up. Big thanks to Johni for letting us record and Paul for being so good at everything!
☕️We really enjoyed their Blueberry Cobler & Southern Pecan coffee. Yes, it sounds funny, but it's subtle and very good.

Super Funny first time rv disaster story. So we bought an rv and planned a weekend of camping/dirtbike racing. We hook up to the rv and jump on the highway the truck is all over the place so I call my father that was a life time truck driver telling him he was wrong and I needed a 3/4 ton truck. He reassured me it's just windy and 1/2 ton truck is fine for a 19ft 4k camper. We then showed up to the camp site and asked for electric hookup, they then asked for our reservations. I said I was told reservations were not required. And was told they are not required unless you want hook up. So no electric for us but in my mind that's no sweat I just charged the battery or so I thought. Then we unpack and are officially rv camping and loving it. It's now dinner time so we start a fire to cook our fresh steaks o wait I didn't bring a rack so I have no way to cook these over a fire. Nothing like steak on a stick. After our steak on a stick dinner it's time for my sons first race of the weekend. Well his bike blew up on the starting gate and he never even moved off the line At least not until I pushed it off. At this point we were super bummed so we walked backed to the rv and like unsafe newbies we never put our fire out during the race thinking it would be nice to come back to a nice warm fire. Instead all we came back to was no where to sit because the wind blew all of our chairs into the fire . Which was nice and warm to now stand next to because of our burning furniture. We are beat from such a losing day and call it a night thinking the worst is over and it can only get better. Time for a nice shower before bed, but why do I hear the pump and no water is coming out. We don't know why because I know nothing about campers and I can't figure out how the system work.( I later find out from the shop I had look at it. The dealer that prepped the rv never hooked up the pump) well let's turn up the heat and get some sleep in a nice warm rv in April in the NE. It works great we pass out and are sleeping like defeated babies. Around 3am we both wake up freezing because a single rv battery will not run a heat pump very long and once its juice is gone so is the only thing that had been going right for us this weekend our heat. The rest of the night my son and I spoon to stay alive at least it felt that way. At sun up we looked at each other and said I wanna go home. A three day trip ended up being less then 15 hours and it was one of the worst experiences of our life that I wouldn't change a single thing. Even writing about this horrible 15 hours now has me smiling wanting to wake my son up at 1130 PM and laugh with him about everything that had gone wrong and how now those wrong things made the best camping trip that we will never forget.

We just started our full time RVing journey with much thanks to you guys. I made my first video on RVing, addressing the best first upgrade, an issue you recently covered and got ripped off on by your dealer(sewer hose gate valve install). I think we need to continue to publicly point out unacceptable RV construction and design issues as well as lack of ethical business practices. I know I will. The use of inferior latches on your outdoor kitchen latch on top of the improper install is just unacceptable and could have been catastrophic. Thanks again for a great video.

We love watching your family every Sunday. I totally agree that getting on the road with what you have now is bettering than waiting. We bought our camper last March and have slept in our camper now 50 nights and love it. This weekend we played horseshoes and we would have never done that activity at home. Camping causes the family to become creative and get off our phones and tablets and take the time to listen to the birds sing or enjoy the sound of the rain on the roof as you fall asleep. Camping if a fantastic way to make memories with family and friends. Thank you for showing us how even a game of basket ball with your son can be so fun and bring laughter to so many ( something again not regularly done at most average homes today). We have to enjoy time with our family before they all move away and get married.

I don't know why anyone finds it surprising that the grill was stolen. Always lock your belongings up, and help those honest people stay honest, you would be amazed at who steals what. I have always thought keeping our compartments locked was also good for keeping them from popping open. We have a semi and a travel trailer.....I'm always having to remind my hubby to lock them! Safe travels!

Love the adventure. Great idea about the height decal for the truck. I have one in my 18 wheeler. Remember to allow for a bit extra clearance if terrain is not flat going under. Also another tip. A lot of the tractor trailer specific GPS units will warn you if your route takes you on a road with height/ width restrictions. Can save you a lot of time and trouble backtracking.(trust me on this). Keep on Dreaming!!!

Another great video! We always lock our doors and compartments after last year. We were driving away from our house and thankfully we were flagged down. Our main door was opening and closing while we were driving. Wow did we get lucky that our door wasn't ripped off. Since then we deadbolt and lock all compartments before we drive. On the stolen grill, sadly, we had a Bose speaker stolen from our outdoor kitchen as well. Everything gets lock at night now as well. Love the videos' keep it up. Oh, and we got our shirts last week! Yay!

I have another tip for you. I also love my Zero G hoses, but I hated storing them in a tote and pulling out the whole pile of it to hook-up. I purchased a compact hose reel, a male to male fitting, female to female fitting and two shut-off fittings. This allowed me to reverse the connections and hook the short side of the hose reel (the one that normally would connect to the house) to the camper, then I can unreel just what I need to reach the water spigot. The key to the hose reel and Zero G is that with a shut-off on each end and the hose filled with water, this is when you roll it up so it doesn't collapse when it is wrapped around the reel. Then you can open the valve and let the water out. This leaves the hose loose enough on the reel to allow it to expand without unrolling the entire hose for the next use. If you are short on space, a 25ft Zero G will also fit on an extension cord reel and work in a similar fashion.

I've started writing my last oil change date and odo reading in the upper left of the windshield on the inside with a sharpie marker. They also sell those little pieces of plastic at some automotive shops that you can write on and they will adhere to the windshield. Maybe write the height in sharpie marker near the mirror or on the inside rearview mirror then it's always "right there".

Also I have a Garmin RV770LMT, it has car mode and RV mode. You can program your length width and height in and set it for RV mode and it will route you based upon those dimensions...being 13’5” tall and about 64’ combined, I use the Garmin a lot.. also, thanks for listing the campgrounds, much appreciated!

First time we ever took our rig out - our maiden voyage - the GPS took us on a narrow back country road with a covered bridge to get to the local RV park where we planned to get to know the old girl. I don't remember the height of the bridge, and we didn't know for sure what the height of the RV was. I got out and eyeballed it while the Mr drove - very slowly - on to and over the bridge. 😬 My advice? If you RV in the Northeast a trucker's GPS or the Garmin RV GPS is a must. 11'9".

You didn't lock it in all that humidity and rain, and what's worse, someone NEAR YOU in that park stole it!
I have a feeling that you'll be heading NNW sooner than expected due to weather, culture ET AL.
    Be safe! Love you guys!

We've stayed at that rv park in Jackson! Technically it's in Brandon. One of the first trips we took in our new to us 5th wheel camper. Nothing was stolen from our rig though. We loved camping by the water. Excited to see next weeks as ya'll head to Mobile. Been there and through there many times mostly with an rv in tow heading to Florida. Safe travels.

My grandpappy had labels on the dash of his 1976 Dodge Shasta class c motorhome that stated how tall it was, how long it was, etc. Very smart.

We were provisioning for a trip and as we left the grocery store, the carry-out employee wanted to know where were parked and asked, "Where are we going?" "Oh. We're going to OUR house." "I don't think I can go that far." "Sure you can. That's our house (pointing) right there." 😉 From grocery cart to kitchen. What a lifestyle!

    You guys are so cool!
I drove my motorhome around Kansas City, came upon a detour, and followed it. I met a DOT truck picking up the detour signs coming my way! So, now I had no signs and basically was on my own. I took a nice two lane blacktop, came over a rise, and YIKES!, a railroad bridge. No time to stop. I thought, "I'm going through the windshield!", but miraculously, I came out okay. It must have been inches!

Wow...I've been under that bridge so many times on my way to Hot Springs, but on a motorcycle. We ALMOST had a "game over" at the NY./CT. state line on hwy 15 with a 9' 6" bridge (we're 11' 5"). Thank goodness a driver let us zigzag to the middle and we BARELY made it under. A monumental moment turned pretty funny when my wife's GPS said "welcome to CT." and all we could do is laugh it off. Know your height. If y'all are looking for good campgrounds in the South, let me know and I can steer y'all towards some. We're from Mobile, Alabama.

Wow, a great vid, guys. I noticed how "talented" y'all are on the court. Regardless where you were on the court, that ol' basketball would take all kinds of twists/turns and go into the basket at the same angle. Haven't seen THAT before. Love Reflectix; used it in my older apt (single-pane windows) last winter to keep some of the cold out: worked GREAT! The MS museum was super; would have loved experiencing it. Thanks, again for your hard work, Marc and Trish (and young KYDS). Y'all Be Safe!

Why do Carson & Caleb look like they are growing taller in every episode?! 😭 My son just turned 14 and I have to look up to him when I'm trying to keep him in line. I swear he thinks because he's taller, all behavior is forgiven. I've resorted to using my Mother-In-Law's saying, "You might be bigger than I am, but I'm meaner when I have to be!" 😆 Anyway, this was a great episode! What a wonderful part of the country!!

Having just gone under an 11 foot underpass a couple weeks ago, I can tell you that I’m just under 11 feet with the air-conditioner and everything! I went under so slow and got out every few seconds to make sure everything was going to pass on through ! A trucker going down a crossroad shouted at me “you’re good!” After that I just went on through! By the way, in Louisiana, it’s probably an alligator! I taught School there for two years and when the Mississippi river floods in the spring we walked the levee every day with 12 and 15 foot alligators just 30 or 40 feet from us down the levee. They’re in the fish ponds, the bayous, and anywhere there’s enough water. I stayed at a lake in Texas once where they had a swimming beach, and there were signs saying swimming only in the swimming area because there were at least 30 alligators in the lake! Really!!! I know that there were alligators in Lake Providence near where I lived. They were seen there.

Something tells me the missing grill is what forced the outdoor kitchen door open as it made a free fall for freedom. That noise your heard was likely a little more metal hitting the pavement than a muffled door closing. Great campsites though.

How scary to have the outdoor kitchen lid pop open on you while you were driving! Glad no damages occurred and I'm glad you fixed it right away. I didn't think y'all were going to fit under that bridge, but you did just fine. lol Yes, writing it down and keeping the height in the truck should be very helpful. Can't believe your lost Marc to your son in basketball. lol You got to prove you still got it to these young ones. lol The coffee stuff was fun to watch. I can't believe someone stole your grill! Shame on them!!! Don't know why people have to be that way. Looking forward to the next video! Hugs, Brenda

  • @mischiefroadtripadventures

Great video as usual!! I am tempted to stop and crawl under any low underpass even knowing how high ours is!!
As for the stolen Blackstone - that is just aggravating!! We had bikes stolen from a state park - while we were on a trail nearby - and they were locked up. Just cut the lock and took off with 3 kids' bikes. Otherwise, never had a problem with theft while camping.
Don't you have day/night shades in the bedroom? I guess those are only night shades? I have been using the Reflectix in my window since the beginning - no matter how dark it is, those cell shades seem to collect light, even the darker ones. And don't get me started on people leaving those hanging bucket lights all night! OMG
    Enjoy your travels!!
