  • JCB 3CX stabiliser seal repairs.
After nearly 30 years on the machine without any lubrication on the top pins of the stabiliser legs, the workshop manual instruction to “remove bolt, then remove pin, then lower leg” ended up becoming a 3 day ordeal!
We did overcome however, here is some footage of how we did it!

The new musac is less horrible than the old musac! I can't help thinking that a hydraulic extractor that runs from the digger's hydraulics ought to be doable! Cheers, Matthew

What you needed was a massive hammer and a buddy holding a drift, if you both wear sandals, it works every time!!

I will remember that for next time! I found at work they have a massive rock-breaker that is forklift mounted for precisely this kind of percussive maintenance!

That was a heck of a task ! When my Project 7 stabiliser rams started leaking I confess to outsourcing the repair and the chap had to press the pins out with a very large hydraulic press - that was 10 years ago - I've now got a Project 8/9 side console like yours a hope I don't have to do a repeat performance but do at least now have a 60 ton H press.
As Matthew says in the previous comment (Hello Matthew fancy seeing you here!) could you use the Jakes hydraulics and a jury rigged extractor

Hello JB, thanks for the vid. how did the cylinder come out of the casing with the foot still attached

First I cut the top pin in 2 places to free it from the top end of the housing, then I used a plasma cutter to cut away the housing at the bottom pin so the cylinder would drop from the inner box section
