CycleKart Frame Video 1

- In this video we take the first steps to build a CycleKart Frame.
Edit. The front cross member should be back at least 13" from the front of the frame, 14" is even better. My drawing shows 12", at that measurement, the axle will hit the drop floor when the springs compress. I discovered this later and had to cut the frame and move it back.

You made me laugh Steve with your "episode", it was a real TV show :) I'm watching more of your videos than I do Netflix these days! Activated auto play on the episode 2!
Funny, yeah, I don't really know what I'm doing with the CZcams. Thanks for watching.
I like the way you explained what you were doing, very well done!
Good tip on the weld seam 👍
thank you for the good show, very interesting the way you shape the frame rails, I like your teaching ability, and sharing the mechanics of the cyclekart! I hope to build one when I get caught up on my other projects, in the meantime I will watch you and others, thank you!
Thank you very much!
Steve Vinson how much does it cost to build one
Nicely done! Im really looking forward for the next part
I just followed step one it went great very easy! Thanks Steve
I'm glad the video helped you.
My husband has been putting together the parts for a cyclekart.
Yes, I'm down below Houston, if I can get a group going I may switch to the 212, I have a good one, been run very little, I will make sure I can adapt either engine to the same drive setup, like you said, it's yours, you can do what you want. I did see a lot of the Predators but didn't know It was required , thanks for the reply.
Right on. I'm pretty sure there are some karts in the Houston area. Check our facebook page or post on the Cyclekartclub.com site, pretty sure there are a few in the area already and I'm sure those guys would love for you to join them.
Thank you for watching. My kart has a differential, so both rear wheels have power. Many cyclekarts use a solid rear go-kart axle and have only one rear wheel keyed.
Hi Steve thanks for this great Video, I am planning my build for the fall & presently gathering parts.
Wondering if you can answer a few questions?
1st question?
Using 3/4 “ shaft
Motor is 6 1/2 hp. 3/4. Shaft
Torque convertor is Preditor Go Cart clutch set 3/4” 12 teeth 35 chain
Do I need a 48/12 to equal 60 tooth ratio?
My example of what I read is to aim for 60 tooth sprocket.
2nd question?
I am looking to find a sprocket hub to install on 3/4” axle to hold the large sprocket, seems to be lots available with 1” & 5/8” bore.
Any suggestion of where to get a 3/4”
Or maybe a reducer sleeve 1” to 3/4”
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Couple clarifications. The 3/4" shaft is the output shaft on the motor. The rear axle should be a 1" diameter, that probably answers question #2.
I like the 6:1 ratio on my gearing. So if you have a 12T on the TAV, try to find a 72 tooth sprocket for the rear axle. My kart is a 10T with a 60T sprocket, my sons kart is a 12T with a 72 tooth sprocket, same ratios. You should be able to find the parts at MFG Supply or Go Power Sports or NR Racing.
Thinking of building a Kart, I was fortunate enough to find your channel. Would be interested in any information in the form of plans, materials or advice. Have not been able to find anyone in the Boise area for advice. Thank you and can't wait for the next episode.
Randy, fantastic. I will send you some info. Thanks for watching.
Actually...I cant seem to message you privately through youtube. Are you on Facebook or www.cyclekartclub.com ?

Steve... I really want to build a cyclekart and I even have the wheels and the motor, but I'm nt certain where to start. Thanks for this video you make it sound and look so easy.. at least I know how to make a start. Have you followed up with the rest if the build. so that we can learn from your skills? I am looking forward ti watching the rest and then getting started on my own
Yes this is a 9 part series, I just completed a new build of a 1913 Duesenberg also here on CZcams, thanks for watching
Steve, excellent video series, do you have plans and parts list you could share or that I could purchase from you? This would be a very fun project to do with my two boys to teach them welding, cutting, grinding, woodworking, fabricating etc. sent you a PM on FB. Thanks!!!
Email sent. Thanks for watching, keep us posted on your project.
Thanks, this is extremely helpful to me. On another note, I'm in love with that painting of the robot driving behind you. Do you have the name of the artist?
Thanks for watching. The "Robot Artist" is Matt Spangler. I met him at Comic Fest in Phoenix, very talented guy.
Thank you very much, I'll check him out! I hope to start my own cyclekart after Christmas. @@stevevinson6030
@@catisadreamer let me know if you have any questions. I have plans and parts lists to help you get started.
Steve Vinson Hi, if you have plans and part lists that would be incredibly helpful to me! I got my wheels and am planning on getting the parts for the frame rails this month but I don’t have a very strong understanding on how to make plans with measurements.
Hi Steve, I just watched your video's on building the frame, Very nice, and I appreciate you not showing drilling and welding. I was interested in what you do to the engines if anything, I see the exhaust. I have a GX 270 9.0 HP from a pressure washer that the pump went bad, It's a good engine. I only found out about cyclekarts about a week ago and have been looking for something to do with the engine, I have everything I need for shop equipment, I'm a retired Machine tool mechanic and diesel engine machinist. I do not have any sheet metal tools, I really wanted to build a wooden body. Thanks again, Great info.
Welcome to the madness. The guidelines for Cyclekarts ask us to not use a motor larger than the Honda GX200 or Predator 212. If you dont plan to attend a club event, then I guess anything goes.
Thanks for watching. Cheers
After all is said and done. How much to have one custom built and is this only in AZ? What part of AZ are you guys from?
The Arizona group is mostly in the metro Phoenix area, although there are some guys in Prescott and Show Low. There are several completed or near completed Cyclekarts for sale in Arizona. if you visit the www.cyclekartclub.com they are listed in the for sale section. contact me on facebook if you want to commission a kart. Thanks for watching
Any suggestions on where to buy cheap metal for your builds?
I get it from a local metal supplier here in Phoenix, usually around $45 for a 20 foot pieces of .063 wall 1 x 3, I have used Southwest Steel Sales and Industrial Metal Supply
Nice! What do you use for wheels?
17" motorcycle rims, typically from a Honda CT90 or similar. We have sources for brand new reproductions, not cheap, but not rusty either. Thanks for watching.
Still new to this arena. I have a question. Instead of 1"x 3" why not use 1"x 2" in an 0.083 thickness. Should be just as strong and much easier to weld on or to. Thanks Steve. Locally where do guys get steel nowadays.
We use the 1x3 just because it looks a bit like the old time frames that these cars had originally. If your inspiration car has a different style of frame, just make it look as much like that as possible.
@@stevevinson6030 in terms of stiffness, would you think that a 3/4 x 2.5 (1/16) frame would work fine? or should i add a cross brace section ...
Hi, does the frame absolutely need to be made from steel?? Can it be made from Aluminum???
I know if at least 2 cyclekarts that are built with Aluminum Frames. Most choose steel because it is easy to weld.
We’re do you get front springs from
EngelsCoachShop.com
sir if you have the drawing please reply me
Where do you get the wheels and tires?
I have found used Honda CT 90 wheels on craigslist and online places like that. You can order brand new versions made in Thailand, a guy here in Phoenix has a good supply of them, email to andrew@in-groundtrampolines.com
The tires I get from an online motorcycle supply company. I have used a few different ones, Amazon usually has the sizes we need also.
@@stevevinson6030 GREAT .. thank you very much. I'll check it out.
How much is it to build one
depends on your method and if you choose new parts or used. Most are between $1500 and $2500 in parts
bom
You are just awesome
I am a student..and I am making a similar one as a part of my project.Could you help me? Can you give some advices via email???
