- Fabian Cancellara is a cycling hero of mine, and many others. For me there was no one else as inspiring to watch turn on the gas in a one day classic than Spartacus. I was lucky enough to catch up with the living legend in Spain at the start of the year.

Fabian is the man! I met him at the start line of the Tour de California, they say never meet your heroes - but he was the real deal. Signed my jersey and everything.

Riding a bike in Spain is like swimming in a pool, completely relaxing and enjoyable.
Spain: huge spaces, few people or cars.
Try that in Italy! It's a Navy Seal survival challenge.
That is a vacational destination in winter. Try it in the summer and see

For sure, I think of most cyclists as "good" people - they like to train hard but all have other passions and hobbies and mostly, they are the kind of people I would like to hang out with. Not so much bling bling for sure! I also think the average IQ of pro cyclists is pretty good. Chew on that!

The Swiss national coach when Fabian was a junior would make a handling exercise when on top of a hill: they wouldn't be allowed to pedal, only coasting and braking when needed, until the end of the downhill. And Fabian would distance everyone all the time.
Totally diff vibe from Phil Gaimon who was tailing him in Switzerland on the climb, and trying to beat him....SAFA is good natured and said he was a personal hero ....
