Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on CZcams, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on CZcams. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on CZcams, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.
If you enjoy this video and my reactions make sure you subscribe to the channel, like the video and comment down below which video you would like to see me react to next.

True story...The movie "Hurricane" was the story of Rubin Hurricane Carter .....played by Danzel Washington......Dylan's song Hurricane was instrumental in Rubin finally being freed after a new trial found him innocent. Rubin had very few supporters in the white or black community...fortunately he had Dylan's support!

This is a masterpiece. Only Bob Dylan could write and sing something like this.

When Hurricane was released after a second retrial, he moved to Canada. There he started a foundation to assist people wrongfully convicted of crimes and he continued with that until his death a few years ago. The movie The Hurricane was very well done. Bob Dylan’s efforts certainly helped to keep Reuben Carter’s case alive. 👏👏🇨🇦

It's funny that you spoke about Dylan's songs being open for interpretation before you listened to one of his straightforward story songs about a true story. Great reaction.

This is the exception to most of Dylan's songs that are open to interpretation. It's not a happy feel good song. It's a true account of what happened to a real person, just put to music and told in such a way as to spread the word about this injustice.

Those lyrics near the end, about being ashamed to live in a country where justice is a game....they hit me in the gut every time. Because damnit, we still live in that country.

Scarlet Rivera played violin on the album and for me, she set the tone. Story is Dylan just found her on the street.
"While being driven in his limousine around the Village, Dylan spotted Rivera walking with her violin case. Dylan stopped to converse with Rivera and invited her to his rehearsal studio where she spent the afternoon playing along with several of his new songs. "If I had crossed the street seconds earlier," said Rivera in 2012, "it never would have happened." After a session with her, Dylan invited Rivera to play on the Rolling Thunder Revue tour. She played an important role in Dylan's studio album Desire." -- Wikipedia

I love how it's written like a screenplay. It paints the intro And then cutscene to the title screen then continues on to the story, cuts to narration, then quote, then narration, then quote. And his voice tells you which is which. It paints such a vivid picture.

This is the most significant track from his eponymous album DESIRE from 1975. It tells the true story of Rubin 'Hurricane' Carter, who was framed for double murder. He's playing with The Rolling Thunder Revue on this album, a collaborative effort of various artists, and most of the songs were co-written by Dylan and Jacques Levy. Scarlet Rivera is fiddling that violin and performs most songs on this album - and completely makes it for me. The whole album is worth a review, BLACK DIAMOND BAY being my favorite song on it. It's a quiet nod to Joseph Conrad's novel 'Victory'.

I remember when as a boy I listened to this song again and again trying to figure out the lyrics. I knew the basic story. But English is not my language. And the lyrics has many slang expressions, like "to put someone's ass in stir". Luckily I had a good dictionary available.
The 'angry' violin was a great choise for the arrangement.
A couple of great Dylan songs, (there are so many).
"Ballad of a Thin Man" (Interesting, weird story lyrics)
    "Changing of the Quards"

  • @mamaflush9945

You've got so many great comments about the meaning of the song, I will just expound on the music; I think Dylan was very clever to use the violin instead of the harmonica, an instrument that he regularly includes on many of his tracks, because it adds so much feeling and richness to the emotion of the story being told and you're so right about the music, it's simply stunning. And the lady playing that lovely violin is Scarlet Rivera she is an American violinist and is best known for her work with Bob Dylan. But she also worked with other artists such as "Tracy Chapman". Whenever, I listen to this song it never fails to bring a tear to my eye. And Dylan did a masterful job pairing the violin to the lyrics of this song, because as you listen to the story unfold along with the frenzy of notes being played by that beautiful violin, you can feel the since of injustice as Dylan tells the tragic story. Which by the way, is based on a real person "Reuben Carter". I thoroughly enjoyed this one, brother! thanks for sharing
Here's another one of his songs, if interest "Bob Dylan - Lay, Lady, Lay (Alternate Version -Take 2) (Official Audio)"

Scarlet totally makes this whole album (Desire) playing with The Rolling Thunder Revue and Dylan. Most songs here were co-written with Jacques Levy. Favorite song on it is BLACK DIAMOND BAY.

Bob Dylan and Ruben “Hurricane” Carter actually reunited years later, 2013 I believe, and took photos together. I saw it and 😢 because despite what the media & critics said, Bob was ALWAYS on Ruben’s side even after the release of the song and never playing this song in decades.

'the authorities came to blame' (not came to play). Dylan often writes songs about injustice. Reuben Carter, a contender for world champion boxer, known as 'The Hurricane' was picked up and blamed for the crime and inmprisoned. They're telling the witness that he can either identify Carter or go to prison himself for other crimes he had done.

They wanted to put Mohammad Ali in jail because he didn’t want to go to Vietnam war. Here he was the best boxer in the world, we didn’t want him to fight for nothing just to get killed in the process. He was the champion of the world in the 60’s…he didn’t have to go!👍👏👏👏💙

Ruben "Hurricane" Carter wrote a book about this travesty which made it's way to Dylan who wrote this song. The publicity of this was instrumental in him being freed. One more instance of Dylan using his platform to right the wrongs he sees around him. . . thank God for those, like him, that have the courage to call out the wrongs of our society. And yes, the violin in this song is amazing. Great reaction!
