This a song about the true story of Rubin Hurricane Carter, a professional boxer falsely charged for the murder of three in a New Jersey bar. He was convicted at trial and Dylan was the first artist to champion his cause. The song was released in 1975 and two months later Hurricane was granted a new trial only to be convicted again. He successfully appealed and was finally freed after spending decades in jail for a crime he didn't commit.
What a tragedy....ruin a man's dreams & life...for what? Why? Prejudice? Pure & simple. How evil, man.
You got it. They ruined his life. Pure evil!
The true story is Hurricane was a murderer. Study the sctually evidence.
This song was written in 1975. I don't think that nowadays would be easy to find someone to produce a song like this, with this so deep a meaning against injustice and racism. And Dylan had a lot of courage to sing that song. Nobody today would be so brave. This is one of the masterpieces of this great artist.
This song is a true story. Thankfully, Mr. Carter was finally released, but after about twenty years. A lot of Dylan's songs are about real people and/or real scenarios. Anyway, nice reaction; enjoyed your take on it. All the best.
The whole album 'Desire' from which this leads off is absolutely fire and full of imagery.
Just about anything from Dylan will be worth a listen. I always recommend new ears listen to songs off the album Blood on Tracks. Keep the Dylan coming and thanks for the reaction.
Great reaction..
Nobel prize for literature!!!!
Shakespeare with a guitar!!!!
He's just a guitar player!!!..lol
I am amazed how many people, especially black, have no idea who Rubin Carter was.
Scarlet Rivera is the one playing violin on this song.
!!!!!
one of Dylan's best songs musically
I suggest these Bob Dylan songs: Things Have Changed, It's All Over Now Baby Blue, Ballad Of A Thin Man & The Man In Me
I seen it with my own eyes 1978 Earls court, London. Ruben Carter Champion of the world.
React to the movie "The Hurricane" with Denzel as Rueben Hurricane Carter. GREAT MOVIE.
Just found your delightful channel. I know you love Mark Knopfler--check out Bob Dylan's album Infidels (produced by Mark). Favorite tracks--Jokerman, I & I. Whole album is great.
this is real , great line bob domain
Google Ruben Carter. He was a boxer who was framed for some murders. Dylan chose to write a song about what happened to Ruben Hurricane Carter.
True sad story.
Proof we have two justice systems in this country. An innocent man framed.
Keep digging..
Hurricane my personal fav..but shit bro . probably not in Bob's top 50 ..lol
There was a lot of drama in the black community around Carter.
Both sides were, of course, setting up their own version of what happened. Look up what Rubbins girl had to say about him... not at all endearing 😢
Carter was re-tried & re-convicted. No-one doubts the racism of the "system" - nor the greatness of the song & of Dylan's performance.
But Carter was a very dodgy character. A bit of googling will show that.
The convictions were ultimately set aside, and he was freed in 1985.
@@RandyHall324 but he was a murderer. One judge set it aside and it was a ridiculous decision.
