    I stayed for a few weeks in the original David Russell Hall (now demolished and where the apartments are now built) and it's not really that far out at all. It might be by St Andrews standards (but St Andrews is tiny; it's more like a university campus that just happens to include the town), but not far by most other unis. And DRA are ideal for Astronomers as the observatory is so close.

    Hi, I loved the video!! I just got my offer from St Andrews and I’m super happy as it comes across as a wonderful uni in your videos! I’d be really grateful though to get your opinion on a question that I have, I was wondering if there are a substantial amount of lower middle-class/working-class people at St Andrews as the preconception is that it is quite posh? Obviously nothing wrong with posh people, just wanted to know if there were any issues with class representation/classism (as I have heard this is the case with a lot of top-ranking unis). Thank you and I hope this didn’t come across offensively. Xx

    • @justkiki3091
      @justkiki3091  Před 4 lety +3

      Marina Winters hi love! I completely understand your concern, and even though it may seem like there are so many posh people (which we tend to poke fun at from time to time) there are also plenty of students who work part time in order to financially sustain themselves. Everyone is also usually lovely to everyone else; there are so many great people who are in the same financial boat or who are very emphatic to say not being able to go to 3 balls a year (which can be a bit pricey). What I always think is that you’ll find “your people” so I wouldn’t worry too much about the poshs x kiki

    Hi! I have an offer to study at St Andrews, UCL and LSE this year- I was wondering if you also had offers to study in London (or any other unis) and if you did, why you chose St Andrews over other unis? xx

    • @justkiki3091
      @justkiki3091  Před 3 lety

      I had an offer to UCL as well but I knew I wanted to come here. I guess it was a mix of the fact that the course here is so flexible and I could do multiple subjects, and the traditions here. It felt a lot more like a community than going to uni in London would have. Also a safety issue too lol but I hope that’s somewhat helpful!

  • @onurcay6668

    Great video. So do most students rely on their parents for financing and rents and such. And is it not possible to have a household without external financing from your parents. For example would I be able to live there with a job and without my parents help

    • @justkiki3091
      @justkiki3091  Před 4 lety +1

      Onur Cay I reckon you definitely could do - we both have some friends who support themselves financially by working. It’s tough but I reckon (at least when you live out of halls) you would be able to pay rent out of your own pocket. It would be helpful to have some financial support but you can still do it with working and some student loans!

    Hey, I got an offer a few months back for earth and environmental science, I’ve put St. Andrews as my firm so currently praying I get the a level grades required, I’ve had a bit of time to look at accommodation and have looked at Andrew Melville hall, it looks great and affordable but do you know any people who go there who know what it is like/how far it is from the town and the science buildings? Also your videos are really great and great to watch to get a feel for what the university is like!!

    • @justkiki3091
      @justkiki3091  Před 4 lety +3

      hi! that's so lush congrats! Melville is very close to the science buildings (around a 5 min walk) but around a 15 min walk from town. we'll explain it in next week's video properly but when you apply for accommodation, you don't pick the halls you just have a hall 'type' such as standard catered or ensuite self-catered.

    Hey! I just got an offer from St Andrews yesterday to study psychology. Up until now I’ve been set on going to York and wasn’t really considering accepting St Andrews if I got an offer purely because I feel it could be quite isolated? However, since I’ve got the offer I think my opinion is changing! I’m now choosing between St Andrews and York to put as my firm... any tips on how to make that decision? Thanks!

      @justkiki3091  Před 4 lety

      Hiya love! Firstly that’s amazing news congratulations!! I reckon you need to base your decision on what course compliments you more, as everything else is secondary to what you study. I truly believe you need to enjoy going to lectures and doing work to thrive at uni. Also perhaps small town v big city comparisons. Good luck! And from experience, everyone ends up loving where they end up x kiki

      Kiki & Tom Thank you!! The course at St Andrews looks amazing - obviously you study different things, but from experience do you think it’s beneficial being part of a smaller cohort and also getting to do more than one subject in first/second year? Also, do you ever feel like you’ve run out of stuff to do there? Thanks! - Ella

    • @justkiki3091
      @justkiki3091  Před 4 lety

      Ella Davidson for me personally it was really good to be able to do all these different subjects (English, Comparative Literature, Medieval History, Modern History, Middle Eastern History, and Persian) because I’ve always found it difficult to just study one thing. I think especially in your first year there’s such a strong tight-knit community which is so lovely. I’m not a massive partying gal but I do like a night out and I really enjoy the busy events. I reckon as long as you surround yourself with people (which is so easy in first year) there’s no reason to feel isolated x kiki

    • @justkiki3091
      @justkiki3091  Před 4 lety +1

      hi gal! no, i'm pretty sure ganno is only a standard catered hall, and the same goes for sallies (just because the halls are so small it's not possible to accommodate for self-catering kitchens). but honestly i wouldn't worry about that anyways because you can't pick the hall you want when you apply, it's allocated to you based on your preferences (e.g. standard self-catered). congrats btw and best of luck making your decision!

    Is DRA really that bad? It sounds great! En-suite, self catered, shared apartments, loads of people, communal spaces - exactly what I’m looking for. I’ve been to St Andrews and DRA is only a 15 minute walk from the union. Are students just not fans of walking/cycling? I’m also doing physics so...

    • @justkiki3091
      @justkiki3091  Před 4 lety

      Harold Thain lmao I don’t know know fast you’ve been walking but it definitely is not a 15 min walk 😂😂 it’s 25 at the least. There’s this tendency for people to either stay in their flats all day or out all day (we’ll talk about it more in the accommodation video coming out next week) but our friend who lives there does recommend it. Both Tom and i just personally have classes and commitments in town so for us it’s too far away. You should be fine with physics tbh it’s not that far from dra and I think a bicycle is a must when you live there. Hope this helped! x Kiki

      Kiki & Tom Funnily enough, after doing some research and thinking about it over the last couple of days, I’ve decided on a catered, shared bathroom hall in town. 😂 Your advice really did put DRA into perspective so thanks! One more question (soz), I’m thinking about potentially making some vlogs at StA but I’m worried about future employers stumbling across them when doing a background check. Will making vlogs impact my future career? What are your thoughts?

    • @justkiki3091
      @justkiki3091  Před 4 lety +1

      @@haroldthain2039 ahah we love to hear it. i would say it really depends what kind of career you want to go into (i know med students get a bit wary about their online footprint) but other than that the world is a constantly growing place and if you'd asked me 5 years ago i'd have a different answer but i really don't think employers in this day and age will be overly concerned with your having a channel. and no worries we love any and all questions x

    • @haroldthain2039
      @haroldthain2039 Před 4 lety +1

      @@justkiki3091 Thanks a lot! I've done a bit of research into how employers feel about their employees' history on CZcams and its mixed. As long as your videos are well produced and don't highlight any red flags, they should be fine. I have a fair bit of cinematography experience and if I were to upload anything on CZcams it would probably be something educational and informative rather than a vlog or Q&A style videos (obviously not downplaying what you guys do - love the channel). I'd say this is a pretty safe, future-centric approach and if it looks like my videos may have an impact on my professional career, I can always unlist them. Thanks again for all the help!
