Bombay Potatoes - Tasty Curried Potatoes Indian Style

- Bombay potatoes are a popular Indian dish made with potatoes that are typically cooked with various spices, such as cumin, mustard seeds, turmeric, and more. When I went to Bombay India, also known as Mumbai, this was a popular side dish or even a main meal served with roti or naan breads in many eateries. I've simplified the recipe by reducing the amount of spices and using garam masala for a similar result. The potatoes are usually diced or sliced and then sautéed with the spices until they are tender and infused with flavour. This is the best way, some prefer to boil them, I think sauté has a better flavour plus you utilise one less pan! Ingredients like onions, tomatoes, and garlic are added to enhance the tasted is a definite favourite among Indian foodies!

This video means so much more because I recently went to an Asian festival full of great Asian cuisines. One of course was Indian food since there are a plethora of immigrants here. Well, the DJ at the festival put some Indian up beat music on and it was over! LOL! Older generations to little wee ones went out in the middle of the street and started dancing. Then others went out and everyone was dancing together. That music you were playing made me reminisce on that great occasion. It was such a delight to see different cultures dancing with joy on their faces instead of fighting. Sigh, I felt such joy and sadness at the same time. Music and food are POWERFUL mediums. Thank you Chef!!

My only complaint about Mumbai was the pollution that I'm so not used to, it gave me a permanent cough. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the city's vibrant energy and dynamism. Can't wait to visit India again!

Nice accompanying music Chef, moving along with the prep work, 🎼. Good looking dish, I will give it at a try later on this week. What would be your protein with this or is more of a stand alone dish with possibly a Naan / flat type of bread ? Thank you Chef
It can be both, but any protein would have to be plain grilled or fried.
My wife is in India right now (Bengaluru). Just spoke with her a few minutes ago. She told me she just can't handle the spicy food. First two day were spent in the loo. 🤣 I may have to hold off on making this one, Joel!
Ha ha, yes I suppose that's best. As much as I love Indian food and I do, it's not the type of food I can eat everyday. Even in India I would crave a pizza at times!

it varies but usually cumin, coriander, cardamon, cinnamon black pepper. Saves a lot of time in gathering all the spice jars.

1. Sea food or chicken kottu with or without cheese
2. Fish Ambulthiyal ( a way of preserving certain fish)
3. Sri Lankan vegetable pickles ( with onion, green chillie, raw papaya, carrot etc)
4. Sri Lankan Ginger tea ( using Sri Lankan or Ceylon black tea and ginger)
5. Potato curry ( boiled potato in cocunut curry with Sri Lankan cinnamon).
There are good Sri Lankan food channels such as Peter Kuruwita videos, wild cook book, Poorna the nature gir.😊

Bay leaves.... the most overrated herb. I use them all the time but have no idea what they add to a dish. I just don't get it 😳
I saw one CZcamsr not too long ago add bay leaves to plain water to make “tea” to fully understand what it was that they add, and some ppl said they drink this tea regularly for flavor and throat soothing
Bay leaf adds a complex complimentary flavor to any dish. Especially meat, soups, stews. 👍😋
Maybe the Bayleaves u have are too weak. I have a tree with them and they are so strong and aromatic in smell and flavour. Closest thing I can liken them to would be a cross of lavender and rosemary
Bay Leaves were created to make you doubt yourself.
A fresh bay leaf is better than dried really. The dried 1's just lose their aromatic features & flavour.
