That’s not a bad swap at all. I’m wanting to go with a 13b rotary set up. Battery location is factory.

Maaaaah.... those Opel GT's are such sexy cars. They really don't get the respect they deserve.

I have a 1969 Opel GT and they are awesome cars! Even with the stock 1.9L engine you can make them go pretty fast. I am on that route so far I have done exhaust and a carburetor to it.

I had a '70 Opel GT when I was in college and a few years after. Now I have a '90 NA and a '99 NB Miata. So a strange coincidence. I would have probably just overhauled the original Opel engine, but maybe there are no longer parts for it. I remember having carburetor problems with the original Opel engine, and found out a Ford Pinto carb fit it perfectly. And the rear differential went out on me and I had to replace that. And I did a clutch replacement on the Opel GT and I've also done that on the Miata's. The Opel was a lot easier to do.

How can I get in touch and learn more about this car! I have a second gt that I'm looking at doing a similar swap with!

To make anything out of those cars , other than a Frankenstein, you have to re-engineer every aspect of the car. The suspension was crappy, the brakes were crappy, the body rotted, the front belly pan got hammered up into curbs, the diffs were not strong enough for major power, and the wheels and tires were too skinny. Did I forget anything? Oh Yeah, the ignition and electrical in the dash always needs replacing...including the dash itself ! I owned one...bought it with 40,000 miles on it...and it was scrap even though it looked good design wise. If I did one now, I would cut the entire floor pan out right up to the inner rockers and from front to back...then I would put in a light gauge rectangular tube frame and build the floor and console around a better engine and trans and diff. combo.

If there is good shape then you just take it apart repaint inside and out. Then like you said add some bracing.. lamons guys won many races so there not junk and 200 to 250hp with 250tq and you have a 12sec car that handles like crazy

Would be better with a 3.4 3500 hybrid 210hp 260tq with a gm automatic trans a few have been done already. The torque is what makes them move those Miata engines don't produce enough torque less torque than hp that's why it sounds Rice motor

Not everyone enjoys GM. I personally don’t that why my GT is rotary. Opel has never been an American car so why stuff a boring engine in it.
