I met Mike Ness when he was walking his dog with his wife in Santa Ana. His wife said hi to my (at the time) 5 year old daughter first and I just smiled trying not to look like a fan boy. Afterwards, I told my daughter that she just met one of the coolest punks to walk the earth.

Mike is amazing. I've met him twice. Once at a radio station in Vegas. I have 3 autographs. One from when I was 16. My first punk show. My life changed that night. I had lost my wallet and so my bestie spotted me. After the show they was doing autographs behind a chain link fence. Mike just so happen to be by the gate. I got my ticket signed then I ask if my bestie could get hug. I don't know I ended up being so brave that night but he did it! I also crowed surfed that night. 16 4'9 95 pounds I discover a side of me I never knew existed that night. Truly changed my life.

Mike Ness and I were on our way to work after school (Troy H.S.) one afternoon in 1977. He was riding on the back of my Kawasaki 500cc when we ate shit (laid it down on the on the 57 Freeway transition to the 91).
We were both covered with road rash and nearly lost our lives..... We just went to work like it was nothing. He nor I never complained.... That's just the way it was back then...Thx for all the great tunes Mike! Dave Rowan

He is one of the only songwriters I know of who has made a career of writing songs where the chords never change. Intro, verse, chorus, bridge..always the same chords. To differentiate the parts, he might strum in the chorus and palm mute the verse. But they rarely change. That is probably why his/their songs are so memorable and 'hummable'. Most bands couldn't pull this off. They at least change the order of the chords during the chorus or something else like that. heheh. Not Social D.

Marantz 2215 was my first stereo too. I bought it in 1973 with $ from cutting grass. I bought a Fender Vibrolux Reverb new in 1978 from a music store in my town. Both of those were perfect examples of "i had no idea what i was doing , but i bought something incredible out of pure luck" . I saw The Ramones live in 1979. I was about 15 feet from the stage standing in front of Dee Dee waiting for the show to start. From the "1 2 3 4" to start the first song to the end of the show it was a barrage of sound and energy, I was changed forever.

Not entirely sure, I just don't think he'll EVER have to worry about where his income is coming from! How he's ever going to "pay the bills" and other normal-person bullshit isn't a part of his concerns in life.
Ok, he makes a bit of a crybaby fuss over drug addictions. Fuck, doctors, lawyers, and even judges get drunk and do drugs. Big fucking deal. But, Mike doesn't have to worry about working like a dog at a boring job to pay for any chemical habits he's stumbled into in his life, and he doesn't have to live on the sidewalk or stand in line at the welfare office either.

Mike Smith Prison Bound honestly to me makes me think about my uncle I’ve never met in my life time. He’s getting out in 2021. My other uncle looks like Mike. My uncle that’s in prison looks like Mike, but older than he is now. It’s a trip. I remember my parents coming home from Circus Circus in Reno with a cheap black and red sunburst acoustic guitar. The first song I learned was “Ball and Chain”. Then “The Creeps, “Don’t Think Twice”, “Bad Luck” so on and so forth. I learned every solo to every single song Social D and Mike put out. Need less to say if I was ever invited on stage to play a song with them or if Johnny and Mike hit me up on Instagram ( @socialdjunkie ) and ask me if I wanted to join. I could hang legitimately haha. Social D will always be my favorite band of all time and always will be. My mentor and guidance counselor would be their music. They have gotten me through everything. Parents divorcing, moving out of the ghetto and moving back into the ghetto, break ups, one night stands, friends and family dying, enjoying life, hating life, and they help you see the light at the end of the tunnel. Their music has Godly power 🙏🏻🌹

I remember being so infatuated with Mike Ness at the young age of 7 (i'm 30 now) that I used to tell everyone that he was my dad and they would think I was so cute for saying that lol. The music is a whole other story of wonder. There is no on-stage and off-stage Mike. It’s all one guy. I’m glad he is still here with us. 1993. I had a Sony boom box in the 1985 Pontiac Grand Am I was driving at the time. I had Social D in the cd player, hoping not to hit too many bumps so I could keep listening. I was so broke I couldn't afford an "in-dash" cd player. I had a radio. But radio was shit back then. I remember I made the trip from Fort Smith, AR to Little Rock, AR to have a break-up conversation with my girlfriend. For those who don't know - that's a 7 hour round trip, just to get rejected. But Social D was there with me, and they've never rejected me. They've been there for me longer than anything else in my life. And thank God I got into a few bands that wanted to cover their amazing songs with me. What a Life!
