The hostile ant-African reaction of Wode Maya's classmate after being called an African, used to be such a common reaction! Africans coming to live or study in America used to routinely experience this hostility from African Americans all the time. It was usually the small number of 'conscious' African Americans that were friendly towards Africans. It is so beautiful and refreshing to see the positive growing changes!
I’m a Nigerian married to an African American. The conversations alone are interesting 😆. I was severely bullied when I first came to America by African Americans because of ignorance. I hold no grudges, the miseducation is real.

I want to meet you both one day before I leave this earth. I am one of those African Americans who met her African husband back in 2018 and we married this year in February 2021 in Uganda 🇺🇬. Uganda will be my forever home but I've had to return to the states so we can both work towards our retirement in Africa. If you would've asked me 4 years ago if I would have ever had the desire to even visit Africa.. The answer would've been no. I was becoming enlightened 9 months prior to meeting my husband online. Congrats Wode Maya for reaching 1 million subscribers and Traveling Sista for sharing yourself over the past 4 years!! I can't wait to return as I cried when I had to leave.. The African government unfortunately is controlled by USA and Europe. My experience with the immigration has been horrific. Thanks for recognizing our plight as diasporas.
Note all but it is upto us to change the narrative by electing leaders that will unite us. I recently loved how some African Americans joined us in Washington DC and New York to demonstrate against CNN, UN and USA government when they were trying to invade Ethiopia to remove the leadership of Prime minister Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia (Good leader) the way they did against Muamar Gaddafi of Libya.

It makes perfect sense for Africans and Americans (or diasporans from wherever they are found) to marry and raise families together. Marriage may be the best way to sort out acquisition of real and personal property etc. Marriage.
Now would be the best time for Africa to reach out to the Diaspora. So many skilled and talented ppl here in America and elsewhere struggle with their economy. Africa needs our knowledge and skills to build it up yet there is no clear path back home to the Motherland. Great Interview

It's not about the African governments not wanting to embrace the diaspora. It's more about them fearing that they are a threat to their interests. This is also true of the Haitian government not allowing their diaspora to do much in their country. Their diaspora is worth north of $80 billion dollars and could easily develop Haiti. Yet, the oligarchs and politicians there see them as a threat to their privileges.

I just did an interview and was telling the girl the same thing about West Africa. It gives this "homecoming" vibe. I also lived in Sierra Leone for 3 months and there is a lot of diaspora there. I was surprised too. But Sierra Leone is one of the African nations that provide citizenship to diaspora with DNA testing.
I just arrived back to America from east africa its my 4th trip to the motherland and each time gets better. Thank you so much too those brothers and sisters on the motherland who surely make me feel so much at home.. Can't wait to find that part I will move to..

#wodemaya is speaking volumes, I'm from Chicago, and came straight to Tanzania, only because of the restrictions in the west, my experience here sucks, the diaspora, there is no community, unless you paying a diaspora or you have a blog, for any information, my landlord tried to extort my rent money, after I paid in advance, because some arabics offered her more money, went to the police for help, of course they stuck together and sided with her, I tried networking with the local sisters, they treat me like I'm a threat to them, my light is not excepted here, I must take my light somewhere else, because Tanzania is not it, I can't open a business without making a Tanzania who can't afford to put on for the business, my business partner and the local gets 51 percent and I only get 49 percent, #wodemaya what investment ideas you have, I'm seeking generational wealth?

I’m sorry yu have this experience. I pray that never happens to you again. I personally am scared to live in east Africa cuz I feel like it’s the next target for the Whites and the Arabs. I’d feel more comfy in west Africa. I like darker complexion even tho I am brown skin 🥲😂. But I support all of Africa. Don’t let that experience deter yu.

I read somewhere that Jamaica is about 60% Akan. Jamaica is close to Jeremie, Haiti where the people are known for Fufu and look Ghanaian. They call it Tomtom. The word Fufu is actually used in the north of Haiti.
Because of awesome peeps like the both of you my retirement plans are now focused on Ghana 🇬🇭 I'm Jamaican living in the US. My time-line is 4 years or less. I still need guidance on where to settle in Ghana.

Well you can start the Kiswahili language lessons from wherever you are. If you in the USA it's probably offered in your local college. Also if you have ever celebrated KWANZAA holiday that is ongoing now then know that the language used is Kiswahili/Swahili

Enlightening! My first time meeting an African who was an exchange student (from then Zaire) attending Seattle University in 89' while I was serving in the U.S. Army (Ft Louis) was an immediate friendship. Very handsome, highly intelligent young man and use to tell me in the coolest accent "your not African, your African American, that's the difference." And then he would say, "you are African, you just weren't born in Africa."

What blacks outside of Africa need to do is to first get organized. They need to set up an Office of the African Diaspora in every African country in order to look out for their interest. If African governments want to take advantage of the diaspora, they surely can. The diaspora is not organized.
ADDI is already in place and they are the 6th region of Africa with her excellence ambassador in charge at the office in Ghana. It's unfortunate that most of us do not use the resources we have to learn and be informed

This information goes to those diasporas who thought East African region is the most developed part in Africa.. first and foremost Africa has more than two regions, we have west Africa, North Africa, Central Africa, east Africa, and Southern Africa, so guys stop comparing west and east Africa as if they are the only regions in Africa.... It would be a hasty assumptions to think that the East is better than the west ? For your information, west Africans have three of their countries in top ten largest economies in Africa, Nigeria in number one position, Ghana in number eight position and Ivory Coast in number ten position ,.. East Africa has only one country in the list, that’s Kenya in number six position... what are the indices used to determine the standard of living of a country? That’s the human development index, and Ghana which is a west African country is ahead of any East African country in human development index..moreover, both Ghana and Nigeria have better gdp per capita than any other East African countries... Sist, Ghana is also the second most peaceful country in Africa, in fact the streets of Accra is safer than Nairobi.... by the way, countries like Congo, Cameroon, chad, Central African Republic, and Equatorial Guinea are Central African countries, so they are not west African countries.
This whole comment speaks to what ails Africa. Nonsensical competition. Wode Maya was not saying east is better than west or Vice versa. He was pointing to the pace of life in those regions. So please, stop with who is better than who. We are all African.

West Africa is definitely more underdeveloped compared to east Africa. It’s definitely not for the faint of heart. Tanzania and Kenya are more developed and the locals are less aggressive.

If you look at the actual records most enslaved in the transatlantic slave trade came from west and west central Africa. Approximately 1 million people came from Mozambique and Madagascar but a vast majority from west Africa. DNA gives you a mixed message since people have migrated throughout the continent of Africa over time such as the Bantu migration. The East African slave trade didn’t necessarily bring people to the Americas and was largely separate from the transatlantic slave trade.

It's time you have Africans, African Americans and all other Africans in the diaspora educated to the fact that there were certain groups in Africa that slavery did not exist amongst and resisted slavery to the core whereby the Arabs, Europeans and their minions took great care not to venture those lands for instant death was the ultimate result....The Kikuyu and the Maasai of Kenya are a good example.
The belief that all groups of people of Africa helped in the slave trade is a bitter aspect of the rift and unfounded anger exhibited by those whose ancestors had to endure this horrific act of slavery...
Very true. I haven’t really heard of groups of Africans who resisted slavery so this education is needed.
Afrika never had slavery, it is not an indigenous Afrikan cultural paradigms! Slavery originated in europe with the slavic/slavs (root word for slave). Afrika had bondage and servitude which are not slavery in any way shape or form. And yes, Afrikans fought/resisted (Fighting The Slave Trade:West African Strategies, by Sylvaine A. Diouf is a good read.) The arabs were the first to kidnap and enslave Afrikans and they introduced it to europeans (they hired portuguese mercenaries to kidnap Afrikans, and they became the 1st europeans to engage in what became the trans atlantic trade). When the europeans came into Afrika to kidnap Afrikans for the trans atlantic trade, Afrika was engaged in fighting the arabs (sub-saharan trade), so Afrika was already weakened with wars/resistance and massive displacenent of Her people, and became engaged in fighting/resisting 2 enslavers!
Please know that it took many successive invasians by foreigners, starting in 1700bce for Afrika to fall. And as long as that may seem (from 1700bce to present), it is a Blink in The Awesome and incredibly long History of Afrika and Her children!! Salama!!

Much as the west African slavery is popularly known, slavery started in eastafrica because those arabs who started it on the continent were from the eastern side of africa. There is no way they would skip east and jump to west for slaves. It started from east and spread to west and both were in large numbers. Remember the enslaved biblically (deut 28:68) were israelites and israelites from the beginning resided in east, the physical features commonly talked about in the bible ranging from high magical mountains, river Nile, lions, beautiful national parks are in the east largely and not the west. After all we are both sisters and brothers. Thats key.
