  • The Hamilton Expedition: HERE IS THE 8 Things You NEED to Know Before Buying this watch! After being hands on with 2 of these watches - the 41mm and the 37mm; I've got some THOUGHTS!
    I think Hamilton have absolutely knocked it out of the park with these and it is a big win for the brand. I have been interested in buying 2 Hamilton watches - the Khaki Field Mechanical aaaand now THIS ONE. It is perfectly sporty and rugged - probably the most rugged, hard wearing watch I've had in this year!
    BIG FAN. I'd love to see them put the white dial on the bracelet. If they do that, I might need to sprint to the AD.
    What do you guys think to these?!

    I love all the attention that the new Hamilton Khaki field watches are getting. They're amazing watches. Ironically, it make me feel even cooler knowing that I still have my 1989 LL Bean/Hamilton field watch (20th birthday gift from my mom), which continues to look awesome and perform flawlessly 34 years later.

    I bought the black 41 mm on bracelet last month. I love it even more than I expected! I keep putting it on my wrist more often than the others in my collection. It’s a great bracelet and it is also a strap monster. This one has been my first Hamilton and I have not been disappointed at all.

    Grincha!!! Hamilton watches will always have a soft place in my heart and currently 3 of them are in my watch case. Buying a used Hamilton Khaki was my first step on my horological journey. And that watch having a display caseback is what started my love of watches. Seeing the movement is just so much fun to me and so many times I have showed it to non-watch nerds. If I had room for another Hamilton, you would have me buying another with this one. Merry Christmas to you, James and Willow. Long Live the Cult(s) and 4:30 date windows.

      I’ve got a Hamilton field with day and date. Bought it many moons ago go when my wife was in USA. Keeps very accurate time, stunning. Perhaps Hamilton regulate all their watches, I wonder if the Channel knows the answer to that.

      @@johnmartin7158 Hamilton Khaki Field watches with the day and date should be the H-40 caliber. The H-40 is a modified ETA 2834-2. The H-40 has been tuned down to 3 Hz or 21600 vph, down from 4 Hz or 28800 vph in the 2834. Hamilton does this to give the H-40 80 hours of power reserve, vice the 38-40 hours of power in the 2834-2. I don't know what other changes/regulation Hamilton does for this, but I would bet they regulate it.

    Beautifully shot WG! Loved your thoughts . My thoughts are on the Swatch Group in general! For all of us that have bought Hammy’s over the last 5/10 years it’s recently we’ve seen an obvious and big price increase to all of their watches. The Khaki field ain’t no longer the best affordable field watch at 500 pounds! This is double the Mechanical and it just doesn’t sit well with me for it! But!!!! What a stonker!

  • @techeddie9035

    My brother recently got the Hamilton Khaki Field Titanium 38. The H10 (Powermatic) movement has been amazing for him -- he set it over six weeks ago and it has gained NINE SECONDS since then. That's it. As to his wearing habits, he said that he wears it 6 out of 7 days per week, and when he removes it at night he sets it down face-up. Pretty great for a not-Chronometer, yes?
    Also -- the bezel on the Expedition is nice, but you can do the north / south -finding trick with any watch, right? Just aim the hour hand at the sun, then mentally bisect the space between the hour hand and the 12. The line bisecting is the North-South line, with North being the direction further from the sun than the other. I discussed this with a Marine who said, "Sure, you can do that, but we learned from somebody somewhere if you are in a situation where you're that desperate to figure out North, you're pretty much screwed anyway." LOL
    And finally, THANKS FOR THE SINGING! Again. Lovely.

    Hamilton seems to be the benchmark for what a practical wrist watch looks like and functions like. I have three and they all get worn depending on the occasion. Easy to read, reliable, accurate and tasteful. They have to be hard to do a review on because there are few contentious issues.

    Agree that these are really great watches. I really wanted to add a Khaki Field to my collection, so I purchased the 41mm black dial on bracelet. It fits my 6.75-inch wrist perfectly. It wears more like a 40mm or even a 39mm because of the black dial and ample bezel space. I think the 37mm version is not as well-proportioned, and it looked tiny on my wrist. The problem is that both versions have the same crown and lug width. As you note the crown on the 37mm is just too big for the case, and the 20mm lug width is similarly too big. But they are perfect on the 41mm. Just my take, but the movement in my watch is crazy accurate, easily with COSC.

  • @hslev
    @hslev Před 8 měsíci +1

    I got one the minute they came out and I love it. The most legible watch face I can imagine; well built and feels rugged. I appreciate the screw-down crown. I can't imagine ever using the compass bezel but it's a nice little design feature. Mine is keeping very good time: it gains a little less than 10 seconds a day. I went for the strap. I must have dozens of 20mm straps - leather, NATO, pass-through and rubber, and they all work on this watch. I also have the black dial Field Khaki and they compliment each other.

    I’ve had many Hamiltons over the years and still have one (the Hamilton Khaki Field titanium Far Cry LE, it looks so good, but that game was just okay), and I think they have a place in just about any collection. I love Hamilton, at their price point they make some of the best and most satisfying watches to own. This one doesn’t really appeal to me personally, mainly because the compass bezel is a main feature and I’m a city boy, so I’m really never going to need a compass bezel. I can’t even pretend to be outdoorsy enough to need one. If I ever get lost where I live, I just need someone to point me towards City Hall-or I’ll just call an Uber home. 😂 It is a very cool looking watch though. And I like how thin it is compared to a lot of sports watches in its price range.
    I’m sure you’ve been sufficiently roasted from pronouncing it “ee tee ay” instead of “Etta”, so I won’t mention anything about it. 😉 Another great review, I really dig your vibe. Keep up the great work!

    Very nice video, thank you. I'm one of those guys who questions the pricing of this watch. Others are doing quality work for less (see Baltic), and the Chinese brands are doing so for far less. Seiko has quality concerns at this price point, but if you can get a quality copy, they are hard to beat. Now I'd happily pay more for Hamilton history, etc., but how much? At about $700-900 USD, this watch would make more sense, at least to me. Nevertheless, it is great to see some creativity in the field watch space. They are under-appreciated, methinks.

    Its just my opinion but i think that for the price you pay for a Hamilton Khaki there are other makes that are just as good or better and cheaper but as i said that's just my opinion

    The watch looks really GOOD AND BIG! Its LOOKS like an ADVENTURE WATCH🤠 OR A TENNIS WATCH! I think that doesn't make sense though....THIS WATCH, everytime I LOOK AT IT, it gives me a DIFFERENT VIBE, sometimes FIELD, ARMY, COUNTRYSIDE, I really don't know. ALL of HAMILTON'S watches have like SIMPLE AND PLAIN DIALS! which gives me a good, simple VIBE but then the PRICE, makes me feel THAT they are BETTER watches OUT there! but still IT IS WORTH IT! THE WATCH makes me feel like a RETIRED SOLDIER LIVING IN THE COUNTRYSIDE 😅😅 i don't know!! thanks for the video WATCH GRINGA!

    I think this popped up because ive been considering a used khakis field auto i saw on marketplace.
    I liked your review of this. Though it's not the same as the khakis field auto really got me considering it more and appreciating the value. It would be the equivalent of $310 usd and comes with 5 straps. A strap monster as you would say.
    Nice review. Thanks.

    Two great looking watches. I don't know what it is - but Hamilton has never really filled me with excitement though and I don't think these watches have the wow factor to really change that?

    Love Hamilton khaki range I am surprised I never bought a vintage piece ( I own a few vintage watches ) for me the khaki field mechanical would be the one for me and like you prefer bracelets then add straps from the likes of Hirsch its a bit like a Rolex explorer looks great on both. Like you sometimes like a closed casebook esp if the closed casebook as some details on it ie old Omega hippocampus casebacks looked great, Hamilton's are a fantastic price for the history of the company and design and finish even some small micro brands are pricey now and they dont have the history like Hamilton. Just to add even though I have 7 1/2 inch wrist the 37mm would still look good due to the large legible face

    Excellent review, as usual. I think this is one of the underrated releases of the year. I'm not so sure about the price, though the better bracelet, rotating steel bezel, and a bit of AR (I think) should add cost over the regular Khaki Field Auto. Hamilton is pretty easy to find at a decent discount. At that discount, I think it's a stellar watch and could be somebody's only or maybe primary daily if they want it to be. I've tried the 41mm black dial on my 7 inch wrist and found it worked quite well. I think they did a great job with the 2 size options. They may not please everybody, but it should cover a wide swath of watch fans. Really my only minor complaint is I wish the white dial came on a bracelet. I've seen people put the bracelet from the other models on the white dial and it looks really good.

    fyi, to use the compass bezel, you don't SET the hour hand in the direction of the sun (as your video was showing at the time you were illustrating this concept), but rather you POINT the hour hand in the direction of the sun while holding the watch "level", and then rotate the bezel so that the South marker is halfway between the hour hand (which you have pointing in the direction of the sun) and the 12 o'clock position

    How was the reflections while shooting? Sold my Khaki King although I loved the watch it was crazy to try and read lets say on a cloudy day. It was almost mirror like in to many situations. They really need to add anti reflective coatings to some of their watches if black dialed.

    Closed casebacks are a cop-out. It lets “luxury” watch makers get away with not appropriately finishing their movements and shaving a millimeter off the thickness.
    But yes I agree that most watches with mediocre movement architecture and finishing (Rolex included) should be closed.

    Couldn't agree with you more about rubber, I put my Khaki Field King on an aftermarket Oysterflex-style strap and haven't looked back. Hamilton's missing a trick with the Khaki by not offering an OEM fitted rubber option for their tool watches.

    The solar compass function is neither unique nor new. Seiko Alpinists have had it for a very long time. Even better, it's internal so no ugly (IMO) external bezel with characters on it. A couple of other brands also have it but I don't remember them ATM.

  • @TotallyAHumanNotADog
    @TotallyAHumanNotADog Před 3 měsíci

    My only issue with this is the price. For roughly $300 more than a Khaki Field Auto, you get a compass bezel. Otherwise, it's the same movement, except you're actually losing the date complication. If you take the date away, but add the compass bezel, that somehow equals $300 more? The math ain't mathing. It is a gorgeous watch though.
