Xbox One black screen of death after loading... Will not enter "safe mode" menu

  • if I press and hold menu on the controller then I can see the console off / controller off etc screen.
if I press and hold sync / eject, it doesn't go to "safe mode" 4 option menu screen, it will either turn off when I let go or eventually start beeping up to 7 times (after around 50 seconds).
it's hard to film right handed but it doesn't matter how instantly I press the 2 buttons together or how quickly after pressing power.
ofcourse there is no disc in the console and all leads are fine (just HDMI and power connected).
Same console since the day of release, so if it is to die then it has done well.

So I chatted with MS support tonight...and WOW...I want to say how awful that was. So like you El Gringo, I have the BSOD screen after the logo splash. I tried the same thing you did, which was the Bind/Synch + Eject + Power, and I tried the unplug power brick for a few minutes too, and no dice. I don't get that 2nd power on sound, just the one, and the splash and then the BSOD.
So I contact them, to see if there is some other fix/workaround/patch coming. I was first connected to a "Gamer Support" person, as in a fellow gamer to assist. Okay...whatever. They got right to it...and told me that this is likely a hardware issue since I went through all the steps to get the factory reset. So the solution to the problem they created via patch, was "buy a new XBox." It was fine and had no issues, but after their patch, I have to shell out $ for a repair/new console? F to that. I said...unacceptable and got connected to an official advisor. I go around and around with the processes I took. They go on about doing the update. But ultimately I'm told..."I believe sir we are already in 2021 and few months to go we will be on 2022." Their solution? Shell out $500+ for a new XBox Series X. WTF? You break it so I have to buy it? Unacceptable service. Needless to say, I'm calling during business hours to raise some heck.

      Unforgivable 👎👎
Ultimately I accept that my console must be a little old and worn which is why I can't get the fix to work, but likewise, it was fine until they messed up my console with an "update".
I'm a little torn because I feel frustrated that this is forcing me to buy a new console, however, at the same time, I really cannot complain that the console lasted 8 years nearly.
Thank you for calling their support and reporting this back to me, it saves me from wasting my time (which I figured I would be).
I have decided that I will buy a Series X, reluctantly, purely because if that lasts the same amount of time then I will be happy with that.
I don't think they have done this deliberately as it is reversible for most people, however I still think they deserve a lot of shit for this.

Update to my saga: Called 3 times and disconnected while on hold for 2 of them and on the 2nd call was promised a supervisor would call. They never did after about 3 hours of waiting. I tried to get in on a voice call and kept getting the "something went wrong" when entering my phone number. I resorted to another chat with a gamer liason and no results there. I asked to be put through to a tech support and then my fortuned turned around. Mario B was great. Calmed things down...and we tried the Synch/Bind and the Eject with the tap of the Power. Took a few tries but eventually it worked. It might be that the synch/bind button is a little sticky as I use a wired controller and don't use the bind button. Others that use it a lot, that might the problem. As well the little itty bitty synch button can be hard to press an hold in. If the 3 button solution is not working then the synch might be the key part that is not working. I'd advise a pen top to press it and hold it in while trying this solution. That way you can really press that synch and have it making contact. If not, maybe a worn button replacement is needed rather than buying a whole new console. That is my tale...hopefully anyone else with this issue gets it sorted out. I feel lucky now.

@@captscarlet2654 thanks again, I really appreciate that.
I'll have another look at the sync button however I am confident that it was pressing in properly, I might take the button itself off and press the pad underneath it and try that instead. I pressed this button in so hard that I had 3 little banana lines on my fingertip for about a minute

I tried about 100 times with no luck, no beeps, no safe mode, nothing. It finally gave me the safe mode screen after I unplugged the power cord from back of console, waited 5 secs, plugged it back in, immediately hit power button, quickly held sync and eject. Held those two buttons about 5 secs and got the beep then safe mode screen. I tried unplugging it for several minutes many times, before attempting safe mode and it never worked, as well as powering on and off then safe mode, nothing worked. It only worked when I unplugged power from back and plugged it right back in right before the safe mode procedure. Good luck everyone.

Apparently Microsoft released an update *DEFINITELY NOT ON PURPOSE TO FORCE EVERYBODY ONTO THE NEW CONSOLE* which has caused this issue to be so wide spread. I've had this console since 2013 and it has never failed me and now the thing that has caused it to fail is a software update issue.

For everyone struggling in the comments, a factory reset should work for most people.
With the Xbox powered down and any discs ejected, press the power button and then hold eject and sync together until you hear 1 beep followed by a second a while after.
Then you should get an options menu, choose factory reset in the options and "keep games & apps".
Unfortunately it doesn't work for me as I can't seem to open this menu but it seems to work for most people.
    Good luck.

My Xbox is doing the same thing. To be honest I’m seriously considering changing to PlayStation. Sure I have friends on Xbox but at this rate they’re just scamming. The bumpers are horrible (LB and RB) and now this? No wonder PS4/PS5 players are so happy with their gaming consoles

    • @elgringo1893
      @elgringo1893  Před 2 lety

The bumpers are definitely an issue on the later controllers. To be honest though I feel the controllers are better to handle than with the PlayStation, but that's just a preference.
