Great video, thanks. I am a PhD researcher in the philosophy of psychiatry and I am currently investigating concepts of the self that are used and assumed in discussions of egosyntonicity / egodystonicity. It's interesting that the concept of self at work is very rarely discussed explicitly.

Do you recognize how what's commonly called "mental illness" can be a collective cultural and psychological trait? That is, there can be disorder or pathological traits that are widely considered acceptable. As such that disorder or those pathological traits aren't recognized as recognized as such, they're "normal" and by extension they're "healthy" (even though they're not). The stuff recognized formally/clinically as disorder, particularly when widespread among a population/society, can be a symptom of broader, collective, underlying disorder. Cultures and societies can have "diagnosis" just as well as individuals can...

yes, I completely agree with you! For example people from
the balkans have many many traits that are considered as normal in their cultures. So even an attempt to show some people who may be from these countries is like talking to a wall, because they don't know better 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

I am struck by how "the jerk" is not considered a personality disorder or mental illness. The jerk is often a bully and feels entitled to do or say whatever he wants. I don't hear women being referred to as jerks. But men that are often bully their wives and children. Not their good buddies.
I see so many men like this on TV ranging from mildly disgusted to murdering George Floyd.
They are usually the jerks that tell off color jokes, that for the mainstream find offensive.
This behavior has seen an avalanche of men fired for sexual misconduct to utter violence WHAT they do in public and what they do to their families need attention.
How is it that most mental illnesses are CAUSED by "jerks" yet society and psychiatry are not screaming to label them as mentally ill?
How many sociopaths work in jobs where they can exploit others. Why are these people not treated or labeled mentally ill and on medication why no attention why are we not inundated for medication to address this problem?
After 9/11 antidepressants were found on every channel.
People depressed because of a horrific event and what I believe worsened by drugs that deaden the opportunity to heal.
So what I want to know is this what are the parameters for "jerks" when should we become concerned about this behavior and what are the preventive measures taken in assessing public safety?

I agree 100% The thing is if the "jerk" doesn't see a problem with their behavoir and it doesn't effect their life negatively in their perception, they will never "get help". Therefore they cannot be clinically labled.
Narcissists never see themselves as the problem yet they are to everyone who knows their behavior is damaging.
They're so brain damaged they don't recognize mental illness or personality disorders.

Yes, but wouldn't "the jerk" be considered, at minimum, neurotic, at least in a psychoanalytic sense, perhaps even sadistic in a psychological sense? In either case, anything but non-pathologic, but more towards an unhealthy or socially malignant characteristic.

I’m not certain how you do your Audio, but it seems you have the audio and video flipped, it’s slightly strange watching the Video with headphones. Apart from that Great Video!

Sometimes "the jerk" is actually stepping up to push back on an even more insidious push from an conniving element with objectives that are more hidden, but far more harmful in the long run than the personalty trait Dr Berney not so professionally labeled " a jerk".
