- Transformers the Movie introduced Ultra Magnus, the Autobot City Commander and very temporary leader of the Autobots. The Transformers Studio Series 86 line has released the Commander Class toy of Ultra Magnus, and Captain Kyle examines it thoroughly to see if it’s good for your collection.
Ultra Magnus was released in 1986 and was based on the Diaclone line’s Powered Convoy, but has come a long way since. With versions in many of the Transformers lines through the years, the new Studio 86, which creates toys based on the best Transformers movie of all time, has released this new version. With a 43-step transformation and some clever engineering, this Autobot City Commander is sure to give the Decepticons something to worry about. Captain Kyle examines this figure in detail so you can see if you can deal with this bot in your collection.

I don’t see how they too this UM. I have both him and the MP version.. and this imho I like better than the MP.
Also, a propper “he’s not a white Prime in armor” and just flat out G1 accurate thrills me.

Just realized, when Hot Rod stored the Matrix inside of him, he got supersized. So when Ultra Magnus stored it inside him after Hot Rod gave it to him, then it should had supersized him too. Does that mean that Magnus should had carried Optimus' cab just like God Ginrai had a second cab called God Bomber and that's what it should had supersized Magnus. IMO, NewAge's Ultra Magnus looks better just need supersizing to MasterPiece size.
touching on the subject of the matrix. Only Hotrod ever is chosen by the matrix. Optimus Prime got built. And as far as we know Magnus wasn't a choice. So only Hotrod got upgraded with the power of the matrix. Optimus due to extended knowledge and his age simply knew about all of the power of the matrix. If I'm correct Alpha Trion was also a bot that carried the matrix for a while. And handed leadership to Optimus Prime. Storing the Matrix seems to be a default ability for most transformers but only shown with a few. Even Scourge was able to carry the matrix but it warped him due to his evil nature, being a spawn of Unicron. Galvatron was smart enough not to insert it into himself.
I have never seen this in stores, I know this is 8 months later but I’ll be looking at ordering him

I'm supposed to get one of these in December, but we'll see. Amazon cancelled my Studio Series Brawn pre-order after 5 months of waiting :(
Not sure what country you're from, but here in Canada, Brawn and Magnus just hit shelves this week. Saw some today in Toys R Us. Good luck man.
Don't feel bad. Years ago I had Earthrise Prowl and Ironhide on preorder and they cancelled mine without even so much as a peep.
FYI he doees detach as a semi cab you just pull him off, and you have some parts mistransformeed, but he looks good nonetheless, just got mine today

Waiting for a MP size Ultra Magnus that's suit my taste. I got New Age H28 Octavian on order.
UM is my favorite Transformers character, but something about the proportions doesn't sit right with me.
Do any of the other Studio Series 86 cars fit up the ramp though? You mostly tried other toy lines.
I will see about doing a quick follow-up video. I haven't tried others yet.
SS86 Ironhide is more or less the maximum wide and height of a car that can fit the bottom ramp. Ratchet, for instance, cant fit due to the light bar. Jazz, Brawn, Blurr, Kup, and Arcee can fit just fine.
I like the proportions of the seige UM better
If looking at the whole kit and caboodle then this UM is slightly larger (too large) compared to certain older figures. Mainly Optimus prime. But! Siege/Earthrise Optimus prime are actually on the smaller size.If you take the Ironhide mold. You will see that Prime is simply too small. Also if you take Rodimus Prime he is as tall as the Optimus Prime figure. Which isn't correct.
So Siege UM fits well with Siege/earthrise Optimus prime. the rest is a toss up. But there will be a new 86 Optimus prime. And my bet is he will be larger, have the trailer and everything with it. Including Roller. And be a lot more expensive.
why are all those 86 movkes figure under the studio series line ?
like, thdy would have fit just fine under the legacy line.
Even though yes they would have fit just fine in legacy it is a movie in the franchise and they wanted give it its spotlight to shine in its own subline.
Like the guy above me said, Studio Series is primarily for movie transformers, so it's not far off that they would make a line for their first movie.
Mine arrived today. He is a super cool figure. i want to hook up an LED behind his head I think.

🤔...I must admit, all these different Transformers Toy Classes are a bit confusing...😵💫 I thought this figure was possibly considered to be a Masterpiece...but no...❓️ I guess it's a Commander Class...I'm just not sure what is the best class of figures...there's a lot of'em...and so many types, kinds, and makers of the figures...🤯💯✔️
Smallest class is the legends class These are the casettes and figures like wheelie/rattrap which would be small scouts before.
You got deluxes which are the old scout+ deluxe class.
Then Voyager which is the old larger deluxe+voyagers.
Leader is advanced voyagers and smaller leader figures.
Commander is Large leaders and their own sized figures like Skylynx that do not fit in older class sizes.
Biggest is the Titan which is all the city bots and they tossed in 2 combiners.
They are all kinda made to fit in a scale system, previously a class was considered actual toy size. But that is no longer the case. Mostly. Only exception would be legends class which also has the smaller figures like the primes and starscream and bumblebees.
The original G1 toy looks so much like the SDF 1.

You might want to try online. There are links in the description.
Legs in vehicle mode as well as the front of the thing is kinda mistransformed you forgot to ratchet the legs back and that will give you more up on the front part of the trailer.
I like the earthrise version better i think he scales better with the other bots and i like the white prime but 100% ss has a better vehicle mode

just get the 6 inferior repaints of the siege mold

@@Alfonso222I've got the OSKO Siege version, which is the most recent version to be welcomed to my collection. The SS86 version is an easy pass for me.
I have the seige, which from what i have heard is slightly better, just less accurate, and Although I like it as my first magnus, seeing 86 magnus it looks way better. Also can you explain to me why you want the white optimus. Just asking cause a lot of people want that even though it wasn't in the movie and it often ruins the figure.@@Alfonso222
@@adrianl7701 I like the white optimus because it just feels like a cool easter egg, and that's how the original toy was. I like the idea of robots wearing power armour, and I think it's a cool idea that Magnus was secretly a little white optimus the whole time. In my opinion it adds some extra intrigue to the character beyond 'a good soldier'

Jetfire/SG Jetfire then Armada Prime then Motormaster then Skylynx and finally Ultra Magnus 🤷🏻♂️. While UM is a great figure, I think he’s a little too small .
@@MudSluggerBP UM ain't too small. He's too big for leader too small for Commander class. And they would never do a seperate class. So they throw in some blast effects and call it a day. The only 2 figures justified to be Commander class were Jetfire and Skylynx. Heck I bet they will do Sixshot too. He's due for an update imo. Rodimus Motormaster and UM are just oversized Leaders.

No inner white Prime, so no interest or support from me. If Studio Series Airrazor transforms (even though she never did in the film) so too should SS86 UM feature an inner white Prime.

I was disappointed by the lack of a white Prime.
A opinion of the 86 movie here: I don't think the 86 movie is the best onesly i think is the worst, maybe the fisrt 20 min and the last 20 min fight since but the rest is kinda Mid or just boring BUT i can understand is more nostalgic for some people. I am saying this as a kid who grew up with the bay movies but respect and collects G1 Transformers ❤
I only first saw the 86 movie last year and I absolutely love it and is one of the reasons why I started to collect G1 mainline figures. Mostly a Beast Wars fans but only started collecting Transformers toys last year.

There was only one 86 movie, and you call it the worst of all Transformers movies? The Last Knight and Age of Extinction weren't really good films, other than having decent figures.
You are from a different generation that is understandable. As for the 86 movie most people when they were kids remember we were really little cried when Optimus Prime died. More shocked at the first scenes where the whole crew got killed. Most other deaths were off screen. You got to realize as well, with hindsight that this was the first ever attempt by a toy company to replace characters abruptly. Cartoons were practically marketing tools. And the companies didn't know how kids would react. So from that point it is a masterpiece. Since it kind of paved the way. How companies deal with their characters.
The whole reason Optimus Prime got resurrected in the end of Season 3 is due to backlash towards the movie. And also how there is a hatebase towards Rodimus-Hotrod. Debates as to who Cyclonus is for example. It all stems from this movie.
The Bayverse movies are a totally different media and medium. Nothing actually beats the hand drawn cartoons from the 80s. Still in Japan hand drawn animation is preferred over digital. Though digital is making it's way. Just because nothing beats the personality you can give when hand drawing.
