KSP 2: An Ode to Delta IV Heavy

- The FINAL EVER Delta IV Heavy launch is scheduled for next week my dudes! The "Most metal of all rockets" has left a fiery legacy in the world of launch vehicles, and so it would be criminal to not make a KSP video paying tribute to the orange beast! And while we're doing that, we may as well complete a couple of contracts for my exploration mode save, namely the Keostationary Orbit mission, and the "are there fuel tanks in space" mission! Enjoy!

I’ve been using a Delta IV inspired launch vehicle family as my 2.5 meter workhorses.
Same I even use the cryo engines mod and run it on lh2 (ksp1)
tutorial?
Delta 4 heavy. Gone but never forgotten
I used to put srb (I think the flea) upside down on the launch clamps to make the delta IV roast itself
I always LOVE recreating ULA's launch vehicles. I am gonna try and watch it in person if I can find time next week. A great and reliable vehicle for sure!
I need a “lil chonker” walk through!
I'll get round to that at some point!
I have lived within 15 miles as the crow flies from the launch pads and have watched rockets go up from the pool in my backyard. hearing the launch and feeling the sonic boom when they come back down or blow up. always sad when one launches for the last time. ill def be watching from the pool with a drink saying good bye to a epic rocket
It filled its purpose. A full standing ovation to the Delta V!
And the folks who worked it!
Geostationary means to stay over a geological location. And I'm pretty sure geology is the science of landmass formations, rock and stuff like that so you can have a geostationary orbit around any rock or ball of gas out there.
Delta 4 heavy is one of my favorite rockets I love rockets with the term heavy.
I do hope that Whisky is okay. I absolutely love Whisky.
Matt we need more exploration mode play through videos!! Love your content tho bro keep it up
Ahktually, we always appreciate your humor and awesome videos!
I love this channel so much
@3:05 Rotate your command pods 90 degrees in the VAB and you won't have to perform a roll during launch.
The end of an era, but the beginning of a new one.
Yo bro matt you are probably one of my favourite youtubers, You inspired me to actrually try learning how to play ksp
WARNING: A VERY HARD CHALLENGE INCOMING!
Good challenge idea: The Ultimate Goat Test Challenge
The goal of the challenge is to collect as many points as possible. It is done in a fresh science mode save.
The challenge is done in 3 steps:
*1. Before the challenge begins:*
Before the challenge begins, you will need to get the settings for it. You can even choose multiple at a time. They can't be broken but they will reward you by multiplying the score at the end of the challenge. +X% means that X% of the total score will be added to it. All percentages are summed up first before applying
Hardcore mode (if you kill a Kerbal you lose all of your points, no quicksaves are allowed): +100%
Quicksaveless (already applies if Hardcore mode is active but without the additional reward for it, you CAN die, but still, no quicksaves): +30%
One ton at a time (every rocket needs to weigh at most 1000 tons): +50%
Absurd introvertism (you only have one Kerbal, if he dies, another one replaces them): +70%
Forgot the thingy (no docking allowed): +30%
*2. During the challenge*
The points are scored for landing on the celestial body and returning back to Earth. Each celestial body weighs a specific amount of points:
Eve: 280
Moho: 245
Tylo: 235
Laythe: 210
Vall: 200
Bop: 190
Pol: 175
Eeloo: 165
Dres: 155
Ike: 145
Duna: 140
Gilly: 130
Minmus: 120
The Mun: 110
Kerbin (you need to get to space, land, get to space again and land again, all within one launch): 100
The points will only be earned if a kerbal lands on the celestial body and goes back to Kerbin (a robotic spaceship doesn't count!). If the Kerbal dies on the way back after landing on the body, you will lose half of all the potential points it could've scored if the rocket would've gotten back to Kerbin, for example if you land on Vall and then crash on your way back, you will not gain the 200 points from that launch and only lose 100 points (except if you revert that).
You will also lose 35 points each time you upgrade in the tech tree.
*3. After the challenge:*
You may stop the challenge any time as long as no Kerbal is in space. The points are multiplied by the conditions you chose in the beginning. If your points are negative, you have lost the challenge.
If you are good enough you will get a medal (just a trackmania Easter egg)
🏅 2986 points (my PB)
🥇 2700 points
🥈 2400 points
🥉 2100 points
This is what I think happened to flight 3. When they tried to open the payload door, there was still air in the chamber. This damaged the door. Although the pressuer was small, it had a lot of volume. The course correction rockets used up all their fuel to compensate. When needed for going into the belly flop, they were empty.
a small Saturn V leadup design, i discovered the Saturn VB, a very cool stage and a half reusable design mean to assemble a moon mission, 5 launches per possible moon landing, and it makes me wonder if its use would have cheapened space travel to the point that moon landings could have continued
finally a new video! i love your videos for years!
Ksp2 seems to be way more stable than previously.
Nice to see Matt not ramble about something unrelated for once.
O7 Delta-IV Heavy
Constellation’s Ares V would have used 5 RS-68 engines. Imagine how metal that would’ve been.
A good day when Matt lowne posts
I'm in love with this thing
Always love when Matt's outro is cut off by the end of the video 😂 speaking of, great video as always Matt!
Will space race speed run ever make a return? You could try speed run the falcon series
I got to see the last Delta IV out of Vandenberg up close and personal on a scouting trip there. almost certainly my favorite rocket. gonna be sad next week
delta IV heavy is awesome, i'm upset that they're going to not use it anymore
sad to see the delta iv heavy being retired
“What does ‘in perpetuity’ mean anyway?”
I would love to see you do a real life KSP modded play through see if you can beat all the target dates and see if you can take it even further
Yey new matt lowne video
Im going to see that launch on the 28th!!!
I'm heading to the final delta 4 heavy launch. Rip
thats my fav rocket, this makes me really sad lol
I wish i had this game
Yesssss
Rest In Peace Delta IV Heavy😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
YO This is my favourite rocket!!!
...NICE...
rip to my favorite rocket
By jove matthew this is rather impressive
hey matt you got me into ksp, i have ksp 1 i have been evolving alot but i see your old videos and you can place parts without being connected to the main vessel mine doesnt let me, can you tell me how you do it?
Cool
I'll actually be down on the Space Coast this week to watch the 389th and final launch of a Delta class rocket. The launch window opens at 1740z on Thursday 28 March 2024. ULA will be streaming it live, as will a multitude of other streamers.
Shuffling the capsule around looks like R2D2 trying to get attention !
You should call post editing Matt "Patt" for short
it’s 5:34 am i haven’t slept
Alrighty....try to copy that rocket during 5x speed lol...got my work cut out for me haha
I'd love to play this game in its current state but I get orbital lines disappearing after every other quicksave
I wonder if he is aware of the textures unlimited mod for ksp 1 that has similar or more customization then ksp 2
Man you sure know a lot about rockets
I kinda thought this vid was gonna do the Duna monument one but its fine
is the sls based on the delta 4? because they look kinda similar (expect the booster difference ofc)
How is the performance now in ksp2?
This was fun to watch but not very useful as a beginners guide. I’m a bit confused on how to establish geo stationary orbit. To me it looked like all you did was launch a rocket to 2600knm and level the orbit. What is the trick to matching kerbal’s rotational speed?
Hey matt i recently got the ksp2 2.1.0 update is it a miner update or an update that added news parts or stuff? can you make a video of the nee things in the update pls pls🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
Hello!
Back in 2018 I started playing KSP 1 but stopped playing for a long time. It was only just recently I started to play it again and I have this idea for a large Duna mission from Kerbin. The mission envilves sending up modules for an inter planetary station that will launch many Kerbals and 2 landers to Duna. The idea is that the station will stay in orbit around Duna while the kerbals take the landers down to the surface (similar to how it was done In the book “The Martian”).
However I’m running into a problem. When I started to send up a module containing the liquid fuel for the station, the thing was to heavy and I had a very hard time trying to dock it to the rest of the interplanetary station.
Do you have any tips? I have watched many of your videos about fairing huge colonies to Duna and the mun, but I’m still stuck with trying to plan the construction of the station.
❤
Hey everyone, does anyone know why my orbit lines dissapear?:(
What do you think? Is it worth buying this game yet or wait longer?
Rods of God?
where are the blunderbirds
New ksp2 video don't mind if I do
Hello mutt loan
me sad
yo
Haha! I was #1 to like! (and comment!). That's a first for me. I'm done. I'll never use CZcams again!

Careful, Matt - too much talk about "enhanced coupling" can get you de-monetized.

nice you got first comment

:((((
Is anyone else having trouble with bad rover physics? Them getting stuck in a weird orientation and then bouncing violently sometimes? I have tried obvious things like disabling sas and anything like that. Ruined my playthrough.
Yep, Rovers are baddddd in ksp2 right now. To be fair their not that much better in ksp1 lol.
