- In this video, we will debunk 24 myths about your pet, dog and cat.
Do dogs have cleaner mouth than humans? Do cats really hate water? Is raw meat the only best food for dogs? In this video, we will discover the truth behind myths about pets.
#24. A dog’s mouth is cleaner than a human's mouth
Both dogs and humans have mouths filled with bacteria. Dog’s mouth can be toxic to some types of bacteria, but it carries its own types of bacteria and infectious organisms.
In fact, dogs have over 600 different types of bacteria in their mouths which is similar to humans.
#23. One cat or dog year equals seven human years.
In dogs, the aging process is much more complicated, with their first year equaling roughly 15 human years, their second 9 human years, and each year after that equalling 4 human years.
#22. Dogs and cats only see in black and white.
Although your pet has narrower visual spectrum that humans do, but it doesn’t mean that they can’t see colors. Dogs can see shades of grey, blue, and yellow.
Cats are sort of color-blind. They see the world mainly in yellow, blue, and brown shades.
#21. Dogs eat grass because they are sick.
Some people believe if a dog has an upset stomach, they eat grass to help them throw up
But dogs and cats eat green stuff to improve digestion, treat intestinal worms, relieve constipation, or fulfill some nutritional needs such as fiber.
#20. Dogs can express guilt
Dogs can feel fear, sadness, and joy. However, studies have shown that dogs don’t have the emotional maturity to feel secondary emotions like guilt and shame.
A dog’s guilty look, which we often see in internet memes, is a reaction to a human’s angry body language or tone of voice.
#19. Cats can see in the dark
Although cats have a superior ability to see in near-darkness, they cannot see in total darkness.
Depending on the light, the shape of a cat’s pupil can change from almost fully round to vertical slit.
Cats’ pupils open much wider in dim light, letting in more light.
#18. Horses sleep standing up.
horses legs can essentially lock, holding them in an upright position.
#17. Dogs wag their tails to show happiness.
Dogs’ body language is complex, and although dogs do wag their tails when they’re happy, they can also wag their tails out of fear, nervousness, or aggression.
#16. A dog who yawns is sleepy.
Dogs yawn for a lot of reasons. They usually do it to relieve stress or to curb their enthusiasm
#15. Dogs lick your face because you have a salty taste
Licking also releases endorphins and makes your pet feel comfortable. When your dog licks your face, they could be trying to keep you clean, gather information about you.
#14. Cats purr when they are happy
Cats often purr when they are happy. However, they may also purr when they are stressed, frightened, injured or in pain.
Studies have shown the low-frequency vibrations produced by purring is linked to many health benefits such as reducing blood pressure or stress levels.
#13. Carrots are a great diet for rabbits.
The idea that carrots should be your rabbit’s staple diet is a giant myth.
#12. Raw meat is the only best food for dogs.
Dogs’ closest relatives, wolves, eat meat in the wild. But dogs need much more than simply meat.
#11. Goldfish have no memory.
Recent research, though, has shown that Goldfish are capable of learning and remembering things for a long time.
#10. Old dogs can’t learn new tricks.
A dog, regardless of how old, can learn new tricks
#9. Cats hate water.
Cats cat water because it weighs their fur down and makes them feel cold. Cats can be taught to tolerate and even enjoy swimming.
#8. A warm and dry dog nose signals illness.
Some other symptoms that might indicate fever in dogs are loss of appetite, lack of energy, shivering or coughing.
#7. Pet rats are dirty.
Rats hate getting dirty and spend tons of time grooming themselves and each other.
#6. Dogs and cats hate each other
Cats and dogs are by no means natural enemies, but there are a few behavioral differences that can set them at odds. Cats are independent and passive, dogs are sociable and active.
#5. Only male dogs hump
Both male and female dogs hump.
#4. Shaving a Pet's Fur Keeps Them Cool in the Summer
A cat or dog's coat is designed by nature to keep them warm during the winter, and cool during the summer. By shaving your pet, you interfere with their built-in temperature regulation and put them at risk of sunburn.
#3. Cats are nocturnal.
Cats seem to be more active at night. What isn’t true is that cats are nocturnal. Their increased activity at night is mostly due to their instinct to be crepuscular.
#2. Dog saliva can heal wounds
Dog’s saliva doesn’t heal wounds.
dogs’ mouths are not clean - they lick their genitals, they eat things off the ground, and tons of germs can get into the wounds along with their saliva.
#1. Some dog breeds are hypoallergenic
All dogs shed and produce allergens. So all dog breeds could be allergenic. - Jak na to + styl

The myth is that a dog's mouth is cleaner than a human's mouth.
To refute this myth, you point out that a dog's mouth has 600 types of bacteria while a human's mouth has 615 types of bacteria.
600 is less than 615

Number 4 (8:45) I take issue to this. Yes, don't _shave_ a dog, but some definitely need help to stay the right temperature. Different dog breeds are bred for different climates, and if your dog has a long thick coat during a hot summer, I absolutely agree that you should consider taking them to the groomers (or doing it yourself) to get their fur shorter. Not all dogs _do_ shed in the spring, and those that don't can need some help. If they were bred for a colder climate than you live in, they may well get hot without intervention. Likewise, some dogs with short fur and little fat need coats to keep them warm in the winter. Dogs can absolutely need your help to stay the right temperature. So if your dog is panting, get them into the shade and give them some water, but if they have a long coat and it's being a consistent issue, further action may well be needed. Some dogs were bred for places where it's _really cold, all year_ and they understandably can get too hot where the summers are warm.
Edit: I have a Shih Tzu, and she definitely needs grooming so as not to get hot in the summer (and face grooms every 6 weeks to 2 months just so she can see).
yes however some breeds were not made for warm weather therefor have a thick double coat which you should never ever shave. For example a malamute may have difficulty regulating their temperature however that doesn't mean you should shave them. They are only meant to be shaved under extreme circumstances like if you find a tick on your dog and have to shave them to see if there are others because it's a life threatening situation. Shaving a double coated dog's coat can severely damage it in the future which means it will not grow back properly and they will have difficulty using it to regulate their temperature in all weather. That can also lead to skin issues. If you have a Shih Tzu then by all means shave it however much you want, but do not shave any dog breed.
@@melaniemaitre8983 I started by saying don't shave your dog. They'd look ridiculous regardless of anything else. All I was suggesting was clipping their fur shorter. Plus if you take them to a groomer they'll know what's best for their breed.

My sister was playing rough with our dog when petting her once, and our dog was showing obvious signs of discomfort and pushing herself away, so I told my sister that the dog was uncomfortable.
My sister protested, saying: "No, she doesn't have her tails between her legs."
as if the only sign of discomfort a dog will ever show is having its tail between its legs.
Dogs can keep their tail between their legs even when they aren't uncomfortable, and our dog will often keep her tail between its legs while presenting her belly for us to scratch, and will often show many other signs of discomfort without having her tail between her legs.

Does anyone else thinks how heartbreaking it is that such precious animals get to see only few shades of colour? 🤔😑
Yes I find it difficult to accept that my cat can't see the green grass and the flowering shrubs.
Yea they look poor because they cant see more colour like us but god give them another special ability like seeing in night, hunting, etc
hahah we actually have the same problem. there are animals who see much more colors than we do. but we dont really feel sorry for ourselves, so i dont feel like we should do the same for our pets. they thrive with how they see and it benefits them in ways that we also miss out on, like having better contrast. we dont really reflect on it either that our vision can get less focused because of so many color variations. dont worry about it. whatever works for each species
No creature suffers from things they do not perceive. This includes low IQ human beings. They never will know what they're missing.
@@ems7623 people still find relevancy in IQ? the test that only measures a tiny percentage of human capabilities? and what does that have to do with other species? we just take shit we are good at and brag about it and ignore the rest. we all have low 'IQ' in one way or another, just like different types of animals have a high 'IQ' in something we do not even realize is a skill, because we suck that much at it or are entirely incapable of it

my cat who purs when he's being chased or patted: i guess i'm built different
Yeah, that whole guilt thing. I never really yelled at my pets and I never ever hit them, so it was more a silent anger than anything. I've lived with 6 boxers and varying numbers of indoor/outdoor cats before, and when they got into something, I wasn't even in the door and they'd get that shameful look and try and hide. They know.
That’s false tho. Dogs, as well as other predatory animals, aren’t able to feel guilty. This is a survival based, as predatory animals need to kill other animals to eat. If they were able to feel guilty, they wouldn’t be able to kill other animals for food. They may look guilty because they can sense the difference in your mood, and even if you don’t yell at them, they can still feel the “bad vibes” from you if you feel sad or mad about something they destroyed. They can smell the difference in hormone levels, as well as different illnesses, so it’s not impossible for them to feel scared around you if you get anger in silence
I’m with you. I’m sorry but I’ve proved so many things wrong. My dog understands almost every word I say. They do so feel guilty. No way I’m believing that one bit. People say your dog doesn’t understand you. Just certain words. To that I say horse pucky!
@@renaarmstrong2838 You can believe whatever you want, but it’s a fact
@@imle9279 what makes it a fact? That’s the trouble with things today. People confuse opinions with facts. No way that’s a fact. I could write a long comment here as to why it’s not. But I’ll leave it at that. You have your opinion, and I have mine based on my experiences over my long life with MANY MANY DOGS AND OTHER ANIMALS. Blessings to you.
@@renaarmstrong2838 It’s a fact because it’s been done studies on it. People with long educations have been questioning it, and therefore done studies to know what’s right and wrong. The fact that dogs can’t feel shame isn’t an opinion, because your opinion doesn’t change how an animal is thinking and feeling, it’s biologically impossible for them to feel shame. We humans just like to put our feelings onto our animals, making animals seem like they’re thinking like a human would instead of the species they are.

@KAI 500 ....and when they're dying lol.
I just rescued a little Siberian Husky Grey Wolf mix. I prayed for a partner, a companion. A week later I was playing with my big brothers daughters outside drawing with chalk. Good energy that day! Than some car slowly parks close by, he seemed like a nice guy as he started talking too me. He talked about dogs and I told him how I wish I could find a companion in a dog.. He than showed me his little pup who he had in a tiny kennel. He was drenched by his own pee. He appeared so sad...I recognize those eyes...because I looked in the mirror everyday. I knew I had to him. I bargained so much with the guy. My prayer came true, it was given wholeheartedly.I took him home, bathed him...and bathed him again because he seemed to be enjoying it! Such a good boy! He's now eating only the healthiest..not Purina, pedigree, bleh stuff. Got him his shots..still has to grow more before he gets the rest of his vaccines as he just turned 3 months.. He changed my life. Our depression has gone away..we found a friend in each other. I believe he was the one who truly rescued me. Thank you heavenly father and Jesus Chris. I'm so grateful!

Here’s some other things. Snakes don’t size up their prey. You can’t keep fish in bowls. Snakes don’t like to be crammed in tiny enclosures. You can’t put just water in a turtle tank without any basking platform or UVB. Beta fish don’t only live a few years. Releasing most pets in the wild is very bad. Don’t catch a pet and keep it as a pet. Snakes and lizards are not slimy. Turtles do shed. You can’t paint hermit crabs shells. Most lizards don’t shed in one piece, so you can’t just peel off your lizards skin once it starts to shed. Rabbits don’t like to swim, the will do it for survival. Axolotls need to stay in water, and they are not very active.

Foxes: *I BEG TO DIFFER?*
Could someone tell me why I yawned at the exact moment the dog did,
Coincidence I think not.
It also could be due to the fact that is 1:20am.
We are born programmed to yawn in front of others yawning although we don't exactly know why, we yawn more in front of family or closer groups. Some people thinks it's a way to empathize.
Btw, we don't yawn because we are sleepy, sometimes it's to get more oxygen faster
That's because yawning is contagious! Lol 😆😂
"Cats purr when they are injured or in pain"
Hmmm yes the floor is made of floor
Well- y’know a stomach ache they’re not injured they’re in pain.
and my bed is made of beds
I own 3 horses and I check on them at 10:30pm before I go to bed and I have never seen them lay down
I have a mama kitty with a baby pup as her child and they love each other
True fact: Rabbits/bunnies favorite food isn't carrots it's banana's but they can only have a thin slice of them on occasion or they will get sick
Pet myth: just because hamsters are small animals they need small cages
Hamsters need very big cages at least 450sq

Greatest myth that some people still believe: *It's okey to keep a goldfish in a bowl*
Right!!! They need, like, 30 gallons of water!!!!
Ikr, it’s not fair to have them in such a teeny tiny bowl.
I also have heard about the remember time of gold fishes . I have gold fish at my house , whenever I walk near by them they come near the glass of thier aquarium. So I get confused. This information really helps me thank you
I can confirm about the cats not purring just because they're happy. My sister's cat purrs when he is nervous a lot, like when a guest comes over or when he goes to the vet.
Poor baby smiley
Her at the beginning: dogs mouths are clean
Her 7 minutes later: tHeY aRe So DiRtY!
She never said they were clean, that was the myth
My dog can feel guilty
When he does something wrong, he looks at us like he did something wrong, and shows me what he does.
He’s a smart doggie :D
Wow....When my dog hurts me he smiles😐
@@kimgoodboy7033 LMAO😂😂
#20: i have first hand experience that dogs can feel guilt and shame, because my own dog does. if my dog were to eat out of the garbage, they would slink way and try to hide, with wide eyes and a closed mouth. they also do not show fear towards us because we have done a couple trust tests such as raising a hand to them or growling at them. this shows signs of guilt and shame, rather than fear. it is probably because they don't want to make us feel bad, out of love for us. this also shows sympathy.
