I love me some Home Free and thiccc low notes from Tim 🙌 Hope you guys enjoy this swashbuckling sea chanty medley as much as I did! ⚓
I can suggest you folson prison home free you will like it ;)
Tim also did a “Misty Mountains“with Peter Hollens. Brings pit viper to a new level
Voice Play has a Viking shanty called My Mother Told Me; and Tim also does Misty Mountain, with Peter Hollins. I much prefer Tim's Misty mountains to Geoff's. Geoff, in his version, seems to be singing solely to look for reasons to show off how deep he can go - when he's so much more than that.
This is by far the best reaction I have heard for Home Free. And 'your' voice? Superb. Made me wish you got caught singing along even more. Glad I stumbled across your channel.
Pls react to folsom prison blues in there tim hit a very deep E1 and cleanly. One of the most beautiful low notes i've ever heard. You're awesome and keep up with the great work👏
Home Free's Folsom Prison Blues absolutely has a pit viper moment
Love that song. It’s a bummer they put other voices around that low note he hits…it sort of hides it and doesn’t give it the full glory it deserves.
Also their Flowers on the Wall, and their Man of Constant Sorrow.
Ring of Fire has a definitive pit viper moment
Came here to say this
Replying so your comment gets up there. If he hasn't seen it yet, he totally should
Geoff asked Tim to give him some tips and help to reach his lowest bass notes! He has publicly credited Tim for working with him! Good friends!
Tim ,Geoff and Avi are all great friends and you are right Tim helped both Geoff and Avi with their growl notes and Geoff helped with the subharmonics and Avi with the smooth bass notes and they actually dont like it when people compare them to each other
Mette, I think it's cool that they do, it's just natural for us lowly humans not to compare their sounds. I love that they all bring something unique to the table. To me, Geoff has a stunning smoothness to his voice, Tim's growl and apparent ease is exciting and Avi has so many tricks up his sleeve, (especially when paired with K.O.!) They are just all so different and yet so interesting!
I remember Geoff was also credited in their Elvira video. I think Tim mentioned that Geoff helped with the arrangement
Would still love to hear all three of them on one song.
He did the same for Avi
The fashion accessory called a " beanie" today has been called a "watch cap" by the US Navy for over two centuries. It came from British usage a couple of centuries before even that. In the days of sail ship's crew stood four-hour "watches" at the ships wheel, on deck for maintenance, available to make or shorten sail and all other tasks. A small knit cap would keep a head warm in cold weather and was easily replaced if carried away by wind or wave.
Came here to say this. Loved my watch cap.
@@RinniePere in Canada it is a toque ( two kah)
And unless i'm mistaken, didn't the little puff on top of some of them originate from the need to protect one's head while traveling through the belly of the ship? Those beams can sting in a big swell
@@KorvidRavenscraft If true that's fascinating and hilarious.
The cap and shirt is more Cousteau to me. (Jacques Cousteau)
Misty Mountains Cold by Peter Hollens and Tim Foust. You should hear Tim in this one. Pit viper status all the way through.
As well as Ring of fire by Home Free.
peter has seen that video many times before, but yes, it is pit viper status. He already knows about tims note at the end.
@@ambvurt3739 oh ok I wasn't awear of that, thanks for letting me know. But he still should check out Ring of Fire by Home Free. 👍
You should check out "22 times Tim Foust went subwoofer mode!!"
Adam Chance, the first singer, was the bass in his original acappella quartet Street Corner Symphony (edited). He holds down the bass in Home Free when Tim takes the lead parts. Their cover of Folsom Prison Blues really shows off both of these guys. As to Tim and his full Jack Sparrow, he's also standing in a boat (it's hard to see but I think that's why he's standing so still). Tim got the Sparrow costume but Austin took on the psycho-Sparrow mannerisms. And can we just have a moment of appreciation for Adam Rupp's ability to mimic castinets without spit flying everywhere?
I believe it was Corner Street Symphony. They were in the Sing-Off season two. 🥰
@@alexwalker8440 Actually, it was Street Corner Symphony! As much as I appreciated Committed’s harmonies (they were the winners in TSO season 2), I really loved SCS the most that year.
Well, I had a senior moment on the name of Chance's former quartet!. Thanks for the correction!
@@kathyastrom1315 And that, ladies and gents, was MY senior moment! 🤣🤪🤣
Yep, I liked them better than Committed too!
@@kathyastrom1315 same. I think they were shafted in the final episode of their season, they were paired badly in the duet with the judges section.
You must give credit to Adam Rupp, the beat boxer - did you hear the castanets? Also he holds the beat so very well.
I agree he’s totally amazing
Yes! I caught that!
Truth. Ignoring that amazing beatboxer was odd. Why diss this Master of Beat?
How can someone ignore those beats and effects? The castanetes, the beats, the waves. It's so infectious, like you really feel it getting faster and faster and increasing you just can't help to wanna dance with it. Like your heart just race to the music, just love it. Adam is my weakness honestly. He deserves more credit.
RUPP IS A BEAST...
If you want Tim going low watch Ring of Fire, Folsom Prison Blues, or Do You Hear What I Hear. He literally growls in that one.
Trust me, Peter has seen them all
Love this medley. The first singer Chance (Adam Chance) is underrated. He moves flawlessly from baritone to bass with a smooth sound. Adam Rupp the beatboxer has won awards and also sings tenor at times. The group is blessed with huge talent.
Tim has a 5 octave range not only a ‘pit viper’ but also a tenor
First song is like everyone's getting on the ship.
Middle songs are like, the boat's pulling out of the harbor.
Last song, RAMMING SPEEED!!!!!
Home Free: Voice Parts
Tenor 1: Austin Brown (guy in the middle)
Tenor 2: Rob Lundquist
Baritone: Adam Chance
Bass: Tim Foust
Beatboxer: Adam Rupp
Correction, Tim is whatever he wants. He is not human
@@rowan7474 Fun thing is, Tim’s not actually a Bass. He’s a Bass-Baritone, but has crazy range and talent!
@@evansbat He was actually a Tenor in High School when his voice dropped.
@@sandym6760 And dropped it did
(Speaking as a school mezzo soprano who dropped to tenor)
And the rare occasion, Adam is a tenor.
You'll enjoy the Home Free ride. Folsom Prison Blues, Do You Hear What I Hear, Man of Constant Sorrow, and what started it all, their Sing Off live performance of Ring of Fire. Have fun!
putting "Leave her Johnny" to a march helped the tempo a lot and really made it work.
The beanie hat Adam’s wearing is from Evan Peters who made the wellerman popular again on tik tok. Hence the Home Free styled logo in the bottom left. The middle guy was Austin Brown and he was just showing off his musical theatre training lol
Chance has an amazing voice. He loves sea shanties. Austin does weird stuff in that one shot. Austin is the tenor, Chance is the baritone/bass, Tim sings it all, Adam Rupp is beatbox and Rob is the other tenor other wise know as the beard. The beanie was from longshoreman. Check out their cover of Blue ain’t your color
Peter Holland - Tim Faust Misty Mountain and HF: Helplessly Hoping , Do you Hear what I hear. 3 good Tim base Lines.
PS: forgot HF: Hillbilly Bone.
It's Hollens......not Holland.
@@LadyDragonsblood sorry did this post on my Iphone damn thing keeps changing words as it see fit regardless of what I type.
@@michaelernst3731 No problem.... just wanted to correct it, so the right thing could be found. I promise, not a member of the grammar or spelling police!
@@LadyDragonsblood NP just HATE the Auto Correct IPhones have, If you can think of other Tim Faust stable Bass notes let her Rip!
@@michaelernst3731 There are a couple of videos out there of him just blasting away....like compilations of his deepest notes.... something like 26 Times Tim Foust went subwoofer or a title like that.
True, Chance has that smooth, idk "innocent " tone lol. Has a deceptively low voice. Tim has great projection in his low range and also his control over chest fry is really great. Homefree in general, is so enjoyable to hear. 8:57 That's Austin Brown (tenor 1). 10:55, I'm gonna check out their version now.
Chance is more "Deadliest Catch" than pirate in this one.
Yeah, he probably thought the shirt wasn’t the kind that sailors would wear so he changed into something that is.
The beanie is a reference to “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zisso”, a hilarious movie with Bill Murray. His first shirt in the video with the Z on it is also a nod to it.
Also a reference to Jacques Costeau
This is so meta. Love the Wes Anderson references- those guys have great sense(s) of humor.
That said, beanies have been around forever, hundreds of years.
Austin Brown is the ‘man in the middle’! He is a music theater trained vocalist, and did cruise ship music theater. So dressing and make up is right up his alley.
You should listen to one from their new album called Brothers in arms Tim will definitely get double pit viper at least
The club for five version of that with Tuukka is amazing as well
@@Marcell0Bass yes it is I jsut listened to that for the first time a few hours ago
Agreed
Yes, this was amazing
Geoff Castellucci doing “Sixteen Tons” is phenomenal. That would be a great reaction video to make, I think.
It's really easy to forget, and part of why I love the song "Santianna", is that the far plains of Mexico, back in the day, included such distant and exotic locales as San Diego, Los Angles, San Luis Obispo, Monterey, Santa Cruz, San Jose, and San Francisco.
Awesome commentary!! I'm stoked you reacted to Home Free! 🤙
Tim Foust did a duet with Peter Hollens of Misty Mountains before Geoff did. I love me some bass timbres! Melt my heart! 😍
I really enjoy your reactions! You bring just enough of your knowledge and experience to make it interesting and give a different perspective, not just facial expressions, jaw droppings and giggles. Some reactors even sound like life coaches, going on and on over lyrics. Not my style.
I love this chanty, and the way Home Free did it, it is catchy, fresh and goofy.
Keep up the great work! 😍🔥
I love bass voices! They give the foundation to allow the voices to build up from that. The fact they are allowing the basses to have their time in the light… ❤️
Tim's range is A0-A5 before he go's sub it's great to a bass singer reacting to Geoff and Tim.
Radical props for the Chanticleer recommendation. I saw Chanticleer live a few years ago, and my life has not been the same since.
Had tge pleasure to hear them this last weekend, my hearing aides will never bee the same. Several songs the speakers, floor rattled, cameras too!
Great analysis Peter. I'm a new sub for ya, and I am about as "Home Fry" as it gets. Very fair criticisms too....their arranger is generally Darren Russ but the guys do arrange the songs at times, and of course they write some songs too. I would love to hear your reaction to MayDay from Home Free
the dude in the center is Austin he was working on a cruise ship when they 'found 'him so it's his ode to his musical theater background
Thank you so much for covering Home Free-all of them are awesome singers and as a group, the best entertainers!
Definitely keep doing these I really like the way you dive into the song and analyze it. You also have a way of making it more interesting by adding energy and personality.
These guys got this conpilation down flat...can't listen to anyone else do them without comparing it to these guys. Love Home Free
Did you know that Tim actually helped Geoff unlock lower notes than he knew he could pull off? Not only are Home Free insanely talented, but just damn good guys, too. Check out Tim Foust and Peter Hollens Misty Mountains. You want pit viper? Oh he's got it in SPADES. Keep going down the Home Free rabbit hole, you'll see!!!
You post some feel good content and I love that. Watching this at 2am is definitely the best. Thank you for making this content. Keep going!!
I love your musical analysis. To hear more viper watch Hillbilly Bone, Fishin in the Dark, Folsom Prison Blues and Sold. The guy in the middle is high tenor Austin Brown. He was theater music major. Check out his channel.
Live your work with the Bass Gang. Can't wait to hear more.
Awesome commentary, 11/10 would 2 hand the sword again
Peter Barber, like your reactions. Very informative. Tim has helped Geoff and Avi with their deep notes. Also, Tim can hit A0 and go all the way up to A5.
The A0 was confirmed by Tim to be an A1 with Adam Rupp’s kick snare added on top
He just taught them the Growl notes, not really much more than that. Avi and Geoff rarely use growl at all these days.
Tim is definite pit viper, my dude!
To Really hear part of what Tim can do PLEASE react to the specific version of Your Man from the Home Free Crazy Life Tour. He plays around with his high side of his 5 octave range and Rob says go back down to your area. He then goes from bottom up to matching Josh Turner and at the end he goes back down to the point you hear the speaker rattle. !! 🎶👱♀️👗👠👠💓 By the way, nobody is talking about the beatboxer Adam Rupp who has won the championships in beatboxing twice so far. Him & brother Chris, who left started the group in Minnesota.
Loved this medley, just wish it had been longer.😊😎. Your reaction wasfun, informative & all around awesome❤️😊 see you next time👀😎😊
I appreciate your musical knowledge, unique perspective and honesty. Thanks for the reaction to this and Geoff's Misty Mountains cover. Subscribed!
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it.
Technically, you have hawlyard shanties (pronounced and often spelled halyard) which are fast, a small team is bringing a slack line in freed by a change of tack, and capstan shanties, which are slow and powerful and determined - forty men on bars lifting an anchor and cable heavy enough to hold a 100-ton ship fast. The shantyman was actually a fiddler-conductor, keeping them coordinated, as that much weight could be trouble.
I enjoy hearing what you find to remark on in the song. I like this one because the tempo keeps increasing for each song. Thanks for your reaction
Super glad your starting to do more reactions! May i reccomend the oogie boogie song cover by voiceplay?
Definitely Pit Viper worthy there. Geoff is just flaunting that range…all within 10 seconds. Love it
I second!
Thank you man. It is always great to see your reaction. Deep and interesting. Specially to Tim performance.
So, I’ve been hooked with this guy. Talking about notes and different symbols of music.
Damn!! How have I never stumbled across you reaction vids before?? You have just gained another fan!! Glad you found Home Free -- I always appreciate reaction vids where there is actual musicality reactions (not just "great job"). As a musician, this is what I look for!!
Austin Brown dressed in red studied music theater. You can tell that he brings lots of feeling and character to many songs.
Heard various reactions to this melody you are the first to talk about the increasing pace and “drive”. I like the points made
It takes a lot for me to subscribe to other reactors, I don't like feeling influenced to change my style, but you sir have earned my subscription! I totally dig your style and I can tell you have massive enthusiasm for music! Keep on the grind brother! I'll be around! And yes...this song is amazing! I remember my first time reacting to it! Not sure if you've done it yet but if not, check out Survivor Hillbillies vs Zombies with Home Free AND Voiceplay!
For Tim being the bassiest bass god as ever, check out Peter Hollen and Tim on Misty Mountain, the breakdown on Honey I’m good, and Do you hear what I hear.
I wish to thank you, Peter Barber, for I'm a music person myself and you have made a beautiful channel of music :)
YEEEEEESSS! I saw Chanticlear(sp?) at a church in SF back in the 90s. The voices mixed with the acoustics was unbelievable.
all my thoughts about this Medley in one video, thank you)
Loving your reaction videos, but would absolutely love to hear more of your bass! Your voice is just heavenly.
Saw this live a few weeks ago, it was so very good !!! They are just Fabulous live in concert !!
woohoo, I Love this song...Great reaction
Chanticleer (ensemble)… 1978…. Wow !! Thank you !! ❤️ I really appreciate your reactions ! You pick up and point out S-O-O-O… many details and nuances that I have either missed or taken for granted.
Their "costumes", if you will, ran the gamut: Tim as Jack Sparrow, of course, Austin (in the red) I believe was Smee from Peter Pan, Adam Rupp as Prince Eric from Little Mermaid, Rob as a Cape Cod fisherman, and Adam Chance as a modern fisherman (and paying tribute to The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou with his "Z" shirt). Love how they get into their videos! Seriously, tho, listen to Peter Hollens/Tim Foust do Misty Mountains. Tim makes the camera shake with his low finishing note!
Austin could be Sinbad from the early movies (Douglas fairbanks style)
I hope you will do more reaction videos! Loved this and the Geoff Castellucci one!
Adam Chance's voice is like velvet ❤
I love you being a bass singer doing bass reactions please keep it coming it Awsome!!!!!
Home Free primer:
Austin Brown, high tenor, dressed in a red shirt with the sword.
Rob Lundquist, lead tenor, big guy with full beard.
Adam Chance, baritone-bass, goes by Chance, beanie and tattoos.
Tim Foust, bass (best country harmony bass since Richard Sturbin from the Oak Ridge Boys), Jack Sparrow Costume.
Adam Rupp, beatboxer extraordinare, white shirt.
While I agree that sometimes the arrangements can be a little static especially in their earlier stuff, they are so well sung and performed that they are always worth listening to and watching. The newer stuff, like Timeless and Dive Bar Saints albums with more original music show their improvement and they did some really neat stuff on Land of the Free, which is mostly covers.
Oh yes! Their Elvira with the Oak Ridge Boys! Please do a reaction to that! They look like kids in a candy store in that video! Lol
You should remember they've been out of performance practice for a year. I'd like to know how much the work we did in Cecil Sharp House in the period 2012-14 contributed - after-choir with three rotating bottom basses.
Really good reaction & analysis!
Hi Hi Again, I am so glad you did this one!! Stay safe dear ♥
PLZ KEEP DOING THESE
You're one of the few reactors that has commented on how they speed up as they go. I noticed it right off. Did you hear Adam Rupp's castenets in that last tune? (White shirt is Adam Rupp the beatboxer.)
“Boy, he holding that sword like a baseball bat…” 😭🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣💀 dead
12:50 your fist bumping brings me so much joy
Oh, Peter, I did not need to develop a CZcams crush! Awesome analysis, I really love your breakdowns. I typically listen to voice coach reactions and I've never seen a Bass reaction! I'm learning a lot of new things!
Wow - this is my first time seeing you react and I wonder why cause I've been doing this for years. I appreciated the breakdown of this performance and your general analysis, but not the overall sentiments regarding Home Free. Thanks for the reaction. Will watch out for more.
New subscriber and I hope you do more reaction to Home Free. All there music is awesome. Loved your reaction and keep up with the great work. 🎶🎵🎶
Voice play has a song called “daddy sang base” not to mention Geoff Castelluci singing “the headless horseman”
The tenor in red is Austin Brown (phenomenal voice ... check out When a Man Loves a Woman). He has a background in musical theater and totally gets into it! Here I feel he was channeling Johnny Depp as Capt Jack Sparrow - the eyes and hands were identical!
You are one of the few to mention the rythem speeding up.
Poor Adam Rupp had his work cut out. The one in the white shirt.
Austin Brown High Tenor in red with the sword.
Skull caps have origins in sailing because the more traditional long stocking caps would get caught in the rigging and be destroyed.
What I love about the pepped up version is how it builds and builds to the end. I know its been a while since you recorded this, you probably know the guy in the middle is Austin Brown.... and he's pretty funny in this one. Maybe its the quarantine making him a bit nuts?
I respect that Tim doesn't always feature his deep bass, but often uses it to support everyone else and sits back a bit.
Tim has the really deep bass, but he also has a huge range! His solo album "Pieces of Me" is awesome. My favorite is "Will you Still Love Me/Stay" where he shows off a bit as to what he can do!
I enjoy your reactions, I like when I can learn something about the music being watched.
You covered my fave Home Free song, instant subscription. As for the Santiana, my truck is named Santiana for THIS. VERY. REASON!!! Lol! Also, the castanets, from the beat boxer, amazing!
They did this in quarantine!
The reaction to Austin's "thing" at 8:50 ish is incredible 😂He went all in there!!
I think you'll LOVE HOME FREE's Man of Constant Sorrow - beatbox harmonica and possible pit viper Tim moment
I think these songs are beautiful. As a fan of folk music, there is such a wealth of beautiful songs in the genre that is ignored for the most part. Sad that they are hardly heard now.
The beanie hat originated in the early 1900’s with the word “bean” being slang for head.
Austin was having way too much fun with that sword near the end
I really like your "commentary" style. You are giving something more than plain: "wow that's cool" and that's it.
The guy in the red & eye makeup (I’m sure his gf did 🙃), is Austin Brown. He’s their high tenor, classically trained in musical theater. His voice is phenomenal 🙃❤️‼️. Their version of “WHEN A MAN LOVES A WOMAN” is quite Impressive ‼️
The Beat Boxer is Adam Rupp, one of the founders of HF.
It's been a long time since you reacted to Home Free. They are premiering Brothers in Arms tomorrow and it's amazing.
Re sea chanties, yes, they are alive with a small group which gathers weekly (well, weekly before the pandemic) on a pernamently docking bay ferry in San Francisco. Their sing throughs are ragedy, but they seem to love 'em. A friend brought me last year. I wasn't into it but it was interesting. i just came across your voice and work today as I continue to prepare "Phidyle," then saw your other side . . . hehehe . . . it's fun to see fresh approaches from a classical singer which i've been doing for over 50 years. Keep it up . . . I'll watch and listen more . . .
Austin is just having fun with it dude
If you really want to hear a pit viper status for Tim foust then you need to listen to ring of fire. Tim and Avi both bring out the bass in that song
The guy in the middle that you were asking about is Austin Brown.
I am a low voice as well. Interesting breakdown. Thank you.
Loving your reactions, they give a neat perspective coming from a bass singer. If you’re wanting to hear one of my favorite, if not my very favorite, from Geoff…check out “Sixteen Tons”. I’m sure you’ve seen it already, but it’s pretty wicked and worthy of Pit Vipers
I just love listening to Tim. Him and Avi are my favorites.
