- Everyone knows the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. God creates Adam first, and then creates Eve out of his rib. A serpent convinces them to eat from the tree God told them not to eat from, and they’re banished from the garden forever. However, some versions of the story feature another character -- Adam’s first wife, Lilith.
While the character is not mentioned in the book of Genesis, she is mentioned once later in the Bible, and she has been a key figure in Jewish and Christian tradition for thousands of years. Let’s take a look at the untold truth of Lilith.

I've been a Christian for 20 years. I heard about Lillith for the first time ever today. Interesting how they just excluded the entire story of a dominant, independent woman (not saying she was a good person, but just that she refused to be controlled by men)

Well there is a reason why. The earliest account of Lilith dates to 500 AD.
There is no mention of Lilith in the dead Sea scrolls, any manuscripts of Genesis or any other ancient commentary.
So there is no evidence that Lilith was ever in the Bible and she is thus considered as a late legend.

Images of her are depicted on terracotta and limestone plaques dating back to around 700 and 800 BCE, over 1,000 years prior to your date given. She's even mentioned in the book of Isaiah, written around 700 to 740 BCE. I don't know where you got 500 AD from, but her story predates Christian mythology by millennia.

The statue you are talking about is the Burney Relief. The figure is generally identified as a goddess of love and war. Some scholars have also argued that it may be Ishtar or Ereshkigal. The view that is may be Lilith is questionable.
The Isiah 34 isn't the alleged first wife of Adam, but rather the name of a demonic later chose to name the alleged first wife after.

Lilith is mentioned by name in Isaiah:
"Wildcats shall meet hyenas,

Whether she is mentioned as the first wife of Adam or not is irrelevant. The fact that she existed is what is important. It is known that mythologies expand and evolve over time, and the myth of Lilith is no different.
In my Bible, it says "and there the night creature shall rest and find for HERself a place of rest" Interesting considering that she's seen as a demon of the night

Well most people do not know the Bible or even bother to open it. Humans do not become demons- or even angels for that matter. Demons are nothing but fallen angels. Angels and humans are 2 different entities. We are royalty to Angels.

There's an epic poem titled "Revelations of the Dark Mother" in which Lilith becomes God's equal and is banished from his Garden, but later comes back and takes the form of the serpent. She gives Eve, who knew nothing of the world, fruit from the Tree of Life and Knowledge because she feels sorry for her. Eve eats the fruit and becomes aware of herself and the world, then Eve and Lilith sleep together. Gal pals. Lilith also becomes Lucifer's lover and partner, sort of a counterpart. He is the First Angel and the Morningstar, and she becomes the Dark Mother and Ruler of the Night. Way more happens of course and there's no happy ending for anyone. But it's a pretty cool story, part of the World of Darkness/Vampire: the Masquerade game setting.

The only problem with all of this is that Lilith is only mentioned by name once in the entirety of the Bible. Furthermore, when we look at the Hebrew, the word used for Lilith is one of extreme mystery surrounding it. No one seems to know, Jewish scholar or not, what the word was literally meant. In its context, most translations have made it and animal, as that is the most fitting for the setting in which the passage takes place. It’s only found in Isaiah 34 when discussing the fate of Israel’s brother nation, Edom, which originated from Esau. Lilith, as described by Jewish mystics, is a character with very little evidence surrounding her literary existence in the Bible. Not only is there very little evidence for her character even existing, the entire narrative and context of the Bible does not support stories like hers well. There is no in depth analysis about demons or angels in the Bible. We don’t learn their stories much, or what their names are. The narrative is about Gods relationship with mankind and how He desires to reconcile man to Himself regardless of their evil. We don’t need to know about angels or demons for that to work, we just need to know they exist and have some power. We don’t need to know about Lilith, for the narrative is clear in the end: God shall give mercy to whom He will have mercy, and evil will be punished in all forms.
The Holy Bible say that in the last days people will give heed to seducing spirits of devils and shall have itching ears to hear fables/myths. We are living in the last days.

I've read several different Bible translations and I don't remember of any reference to a Lilith. Lilith might have it's roots in Babylonian teachings which have been threaded throughout many of the world's religions. Babylon was pretty influential back then and still is today. 🤷🤔

Stacie 413 no Lilith isn’t in the Torah at all. She is mentioned in Isaiah but I’m pretty sure that’s the only time she shows up in the actual bible. Lilith story comes from folk tales and very old bible commentary’s.

When i was 6 I had a night hag/witch /lady visit me around midnight evrey other night for a year in 1989, the thing is that year also i was struck by lightning (the great storm of 1989 UK) and me and my sister seen a figure in the mirror staring back at us, to me it looked like a strange grey rasta man but my sister said it was red native American indian , coincidence 🤔. With the lightning thing i believe in sudden illumination and enlightenment thing (two different things i know) . With enlightenment when i was around the same age and growing up i was having these strange dreams that apparently means stick to your guns (don't change) and now i am older i have dreams apparently meaning you have been enlightened (fun fact - we admit natural light hence enlightenment, we are stardust or are body is🌟) . One of the earliest dreams i remember having alot is (it's so hard to explain) what is universally big is atommly (not even a word🤣, i mean like a atom) small and vise versa and that reminds me a little of the big bang or a black hole (maybe). When i was younger i was so connected to the spiritual side from when i was born but faded as i got older until 5 yrs ago my conscience got pulled somwhere when i was staring at a dot on the wall in bed, my head dropped and in a click and i was in another room, i could not see the walls it was dark but a motionless child lying on a purple floor with a light on the ceiling shining over this child and i felt a dreadful presence in the room (similar to the night lady) so i ran to the child to help, i knelt down to lift the child and couldn't then this force was pushing me down over this child so i was chest to chest, face to face like i was the hag (😱) then click, like in a was out yelling. Now to me i think it was a message/warning or premonition/remote viewed i don't know even all of them together🤷♂️ because then 2 days later this guy i was staying with (i didn't know him as it was my freinds house) was wanted by police for being a dreadful, creepy human being, it was to do with children😠, coincidence🤔. The Adam and Eve story is a fable that never happened. It is about ALCHEMY in the bible. There is a book called Stories in the Summerlands by Annie Dieu-Le-Veut . They ARE many bible stories and their meanings from pagan worship. The pagans worship nature and not the creator of it. The garden of eden story was necessary to insert into the bible because without that all humanity is innocent and Jesus's LIFE, not his death is the real way to salvation by following his example. The story like many others do not pass the test of truth. God supposedly tests man and it is written that God tests no man. The implication is that God makes dumb things and doesn't properly equip them or teach them but demands blind obedience. This is against God's character. Egyptians demanded blind obedience as did the Romans which were always allies and still run alot of the world today and haven't changed. In the story Eve said to the serpent when questioned, "God said do not eat this fruit neither touch it or you shall die". This is an EMBELLISHMENT, A LIE. No sinless person lies. Later when she answers God it is the absolute truth saying, "the serpent tempted me and I did eat". These two statements are backwards. Only the absolute truth comes out of a sinless person and a lie comes out of the fallen. The ASSUMPTIONS people have many had for thousands of years is the bible is 100% true, and accurate. It is not. The story goes on with Adam blaming God and Eve for his part saying, "it was the WOMAN YOU GAVE ME and I did eat" which would be an example of fallen nature. Now,, in this story God does not ask the serpent what he had to say for himself. The story can be seen as an illustration though inaccurate from the beginning. The serpent IS the tree and his WORDS are the forbidden fruit which are LIES. Did Adam and Eve get wise as God knowing all things as promised? NO. They got shame of the body, guilt, fear, separation from God, pain, work, death. This is the result of believing the serpent, not a punishment of God. Jesus IS the tree of eternal life. His WORDS, thoughts, and actions are alive . They are his fruits, and bring eternal life when we understand him personally and live in the likeness and character of God as he did. Jesus said, "by their fruits you shall know them". All our thoughts, words, and actions reveal us. The bible does not reveal the mind and heart of God in every place. In the garden story the intent is to divide God, man and woman and punish everybody. They are the SUBJECTS in the story, not the authors. Now back in n Jesus's time the Roman's were crucifying people all the time as an ALCHEMY habit for power. Jesus condemned their behavior and mentality by healing the sick, raising the dead showing God's true feelings and will for people. He multiplied food with his bare hands in the face of roman currency and taught people to do so. Most likely people were being starved for control. The Roman's and Egyptians are not passive bystanders as they would have people believe. They are cruel, malicious, a evil , some nonhuman . In exodus the accusation that God killed the firstborn son of every Egyptian is a lie. An Egyptian would do that without a thought for revenge to get their way. God does not kill. God appeared in a burning bush and the leaves were not harmed. God says Do Not Kill. Jesus in action shows the truth in consistent behavior. God is good. Jesus is good. Anything that varies away from these 2 determiners is a lie. Back then Jesus set the record straight about WHO God really is and what he is all about because he got a bad rap. And people did too. The truth is known from within us all not in any book. Jesus's message is everybody is INNOCENT. God does not punish or blame the innocent.
