  • Asmongold watches a video by PILAV, who after leaving Classic WoW comes back to call out Asmon and the WoW community for always complaining about Shadowlands and the game in general, especially with the latest New Store Transmog. Asmongold explains why the criticism is absolutely warranted and comments about the Battle for Azeroth expansion...

So only have to farm N'zoth mythic in SL then from those two raids! By the time I did my daily rares and stuff I was done. Even gave up with leveling MY DK and druid did 0 quest outside of the elite posters! I just gathered ore, skinned dead mobs people left behind (after making sure they weren't a skinner), killed rares and picked up treasures. I would deliver elite quest (all of them) at 119. And now people in WoW are just finding yet another reason to cry and complain about how they are unhappy about the game or whatever when in reality they have the saddest life and fail to have fun. 12:49 Well that once has been PvP armor. You played PvP to become stronger in PvP. It took like 2 weeks to become fully geared with the default PvP-Set. After that you would enjoy doing battlegrounds because you'd stomp non geared players. Trying different classes was also pretty easy because getting the gear didn't take long. The incentivisation was just enjoying the game. No transmog, pet, mount rewards needed. Stuff like that is just a cherry on the top. When PvP itself isn't fun, like it was with scaling, players won't participate, despite cosmetic rewards.

Magdalena was a member of a closed community that provided feedback and insights to wow devs in order to make the game better, it was an unpaid quality department within blizzard development atmosphere. But hey, what some streamer know about game development, product quality, constructive feedback right?
    FYI: Blizzard fired more than 800 employees per week last year when they shut down their product quality departments. Yes, blizzard SHUT DOWN their Product Quality Department, which is why they are using the "early access" approach, so they can add more work into GMs that are their equivalent of a Product Support Department, so now instead of regular GM job of gathering support tickets from players, these support tickets just got almost 300% increase since they shut down the PQ and on top of that the GMs are also in charge of handling forum feedback (or is it forum complainings?). So basically blizzard tripled the ammount of work over night for the GMs, also doubled up their contract assignments, for the same payment.
    "Hey, look we got some news for you, your work just increased by around 500% but you're not getting any raises. I expect a full report on my mailbox by friday. Cheers"

Nothing and I mean absolutely nothing should be exclusive on the store - you pay like $300+ an expansion over it's life cycle per person. There is absolutely no reason to make stuff exclusive to an in-game store other than pure greed.

    • @fictionmyth
      @fictionmyth Před 3 lety

      @@JSmellerM Then why are you doing it? For the reward, obviously. To get the item you're farming for. I know everyone memes on the "Sense of pride and accomplishment" line from EA, as they should, it does have some merit in certain scenarios. I played EQ for years. The first 2 real raid bosses were on like 1-week timers. They were lootable by whichever guild got there first or got there second but could do 51% the damage needed to kill it. I feel like an old man talking about "back in my day" but it was super exciting to be in a desperate fight for rare resources in order to progress your character.
      If you pay for a game there's an expectation that all of the content available will be accessible by paying that price. (@li li your point about having to work for items making people mad is so ridiculous I actually laughed at it. Everyone, save for the whales, know you'll have to interact with the game, and its systems, in order to gain what's available from it. That's how games work. Otherwise, it would be "Barbi's First Fashion Show" where all the costumes are unlocked just by purchasing the game, or some shit. It's reasonable to assume no one will be upset by your "revelation" as it's completely unrelated to the topic everyone else is discussing.)
      If it's a free-to-play game, that's totally different. The only way that game can be free is by selling something. I don't care if they sell cosmetics to make money. Those games usually focus on the gameplay anyway. WoW's gameplay loop is strictly about gaining items, skills, or reputation for your character. The competition is almost wholly against yourself. You have to overcome your ability to master the mechanics, spend the time, and patiently endure long camps. That's all there is to it. It makes sense that Pilav has a different perspective if he's primarily a PVP player. Which is the only part of the game that's not just about bettering your character, even though character betterment is a reward for PVP. He's playing for the competition against others as his goal. To be the very best, like no one ever was. Not to complete a character by gaining all the BiS items, that amazing transmog, and epic mount collection. He wants to wreck da noobs. Those two goals don't align completely.
      So, if you're climbing a mountain and 20 vertical feet from the top your paid guide stops you and says, "In order to reach the summit you'll need to pay an extra price on top of what you already spent to get here, what you paid me, what you spent on climbing gear, and all the time you took to learn how to climb and get here." It is frustrating. They are withholding part of the reward from you that you're paying hundreds of dollars for. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect everything offered by the game to be attainable with that price. I think if they made it so that you could buy certain transmogs and mount but still offered them through in-game actions it wouldn't be so bad. It would be less insulting to those who've paid and played for years and years. (I'll fully admit I may be alone on that last part but I feel it would be a better solution than just, ya know, keeping it behind a paywall.)

    • @JSmellerM
      @JSmellerM Před 3 lety

      @@fictionmyth The thing though is everything you described doesn't fit. Currently you only get stuff where there isn't another version of it in the game if you don't count some mounts but those mounts aren't even hard to get like that sky terror you literally got for draenor pathfinder. In you analogy you talk about climbing a mountain and then having to pay extra to reach the summit. In Blizz's case however you would have to buy access to the mountain first and be immediately at the top. So there is no sense of achievement. You still feel the achievement though after getting something rare in the game. And those things can't be bought.

    I think there is complaining and being negative and then there is constructive criticism. I think overall the WoW community tends to lean towards pure complaining and negativity which hurts the ability for the developers to get actual concise, comprehensive and meaningful feedback. I think overall the game would be in a better state if more people in the community gave constructive and thoughtful criticism on gameplay features. The player base is very good at identifying what gameplay features they like or dislike but are unfortunately horrible at understanding the reason for their response and even worse at articulating that feedback to Blizzard so they can improve and iterate on the game.

Putting everyone on freefarm because the only way to get useful gear is to either be gladiator, do M+15's, or do mythic raiding. Aka three things 99% of the playerbase doesn't do. Want people playing BG's again? Then give people a fair PvP vendor system and make PvP gear best in slot for PvP content. In shadowlands they just give you a shitty vendor with weak gear that PvE gear is still better than.
