- One of India’s most highly regarded former Home Secretary says “secular Hindus are uncomfortable, frustrated” adding “and don’t know what should we do in Modi’s India”. Gopal Pillai said if the present treatment of Muslims is not checked and reversed then India could be 10 years away from danger point which he described as “civil disturbance”. At one point in the interview he even briefly accepted India could face “civil war”.
Mr. Pillai said if Prime Minister Modi and his government do not reverse the present treatment of Muslims, which includes cattle lynchings, economic boycotts and othering, “future generations will hold Modi and his government responsible for endangering India”.
This 45-minute interview was arranged at Mr. Pillai’s request after he had seen an interview put out last week with Ziya Us Salam on the question ‘What is it like to be a Muslim in Narendra Modi’s India?’ Mr. Pillai suggested that we should do an interview on the subject ‘What is it like to be a secular Hindu in Narendra Modi’s India?’ In the interview that followed Mr. Pillai said he had suggested this subject because, as he put it, “Muslims should know Hindus support them and do not accept lynchings, boycotts or calls for genocide”. Mr. Pillai said Hindus want to “live in harmony and peace”.

Sadly, as 'secular Hindu' what I have noticed is, more often than not, Hindus accept what's going wrong, while I doubt it's the other way round.
I've seen Muslim friends of mine 'acting liberal' in front of me as I speak against BJP govt. However, when asked about their thoughts on something related to Islam I might disagree with, say religious conversion (they think it's okay to convert to a Muslim but not the other way round), they tag me as a 'Bhakt' or a 'Communal'. I am not. I just want to know if you share my thoughts or whether it's all just a show, to coax me into continuing talking against the BJP. This makes me rethink my 'secularism'.

A lot of people in UK, USA and other western countries are converting to Islam thanks to the forceful implementation of LGBTQ community in schools.

At this point I can assure you once Modi is off the throne, A lot of people will convert to Islam by their own free will, just like how people are doing in the West.

Sir, I respect your magnanimity which I am sure must have created for you powerful enemies in your own community. People like you also need to conscientise the minorities on secular protocol. The Muslims must get out of their ghettos and start residing with other communities. Their leaders should reform their ethical tenets to make them in consonance with our constitutional ethos. For example, they should have forbidden polygamy and instant Talaq on their own. The custom of fatwa should have been abandoned.
Similarly Christians should put an end to aggressive proselytisation. All religions are equal and hence there is no reason to convert anybody to their. Instead they should teach Hindus to be good Hindus and Muslims to be good Muslims. That's true humanity. They should also stop making derogatory comments about the Hindu faith which is one of the richest creeds in the world. It's secular and friendly Hindus like you who can hammer some sense into the minorities as their community leaders are increasingly turning jingoistic.

There are most mosques in India than anywhere in the world, we consider cow our god, yet people are free to have beef in lot of parts of India, we are majorly Hindu but Christians still have their churches and go to masses every week, Namaz is played on loudspeakers 5 times a day and that's being going on for as long as I can remember, we literally gave away our country lands to form two other seperate countries because people of a certain faith just asked for it, Christmas and Eid are celebrated with full freedom without any hindrances even though both those faith are NOT native to this land, population of people following Islam and Christianity in India have both increased since Independence without any issues (just look at our Hindu counterparts living in our neighbouring countries though) you want me to go on ?? What more do we Hindus need to do ? Yet we are called un secular and people from outside India and liberals/left in India tell us Hindus how we should live in our own lands and keep reminding us about 'secularism'. Lol. This is a joke. People don't deserve our secularism yet we hand it out freely and it's us Hindus who suffer. What more do you need in our democracy ?! We've given everything already.
