On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8. - Hry

Thank you guys for watching and if you have any ideas for future videos let me know in the comment section and we might be able to put them into the pipeline. Thank you again, much love.
Super Hornet Good for a DCS beginner-mid non .mil flight talent? However top flight former/current .mil SHornet pilot would make it a rough day for most DCS and real adversaries. All about the mission and whose arse is in the seat. I do agree with you Popeii, at least how DCS programming works, seems like a flight envelope edge is less than the real life Hornet. Same for the various A2A USA missiles. Especially the various AIM 120/260 options. Compared to the rarely confused Meteor, any Ruskies, and Klingon commie Chinese missiles, DCS odds stack heavy against USA planes and weapon systems.
Dude, where’s Jester?
@@maicon9 I was pressing the VSL high which is like a vertical lock for the Tomcat but it was struggling to get a lock. So I was walking tracers onto target. The old tech is sometimes not as responsive as the new stuff.
What’s the red glow on the inside of your cockpit?
Do you have the f14d variant why justvthe f14b. Was the b that much better?
While I completely get (and mostly agree with) GS's description of why to drop flares just to be in good practice, there were several times in this video I didn't see the Hornet in the ground-clutter until he starting tossing flares and giving a "dotted line" right to him. They may be a good defensive tool, but they're also a tattle-tale.
Absolutely correct, I guess it comes down to do u want to take a chance that he doesn’t see you? Which Is a bet worth taking until a fox2 comes off the rail.
Especially at night...he was gone in that ground clutter until he laid a trail of flares.
@@GM-fh5jp In a full on fox2 dogfight, the seeker will sort out ground clutter if you're scanning with it.
You also don't use tracer rounds, haven't for decades IIRC.
But they also can be a good distraction, because one part were he dropped flares and my eye only tracked to them a second and I nearly lost where the Hornet was.
Day 1 of asking for F-22 vs flying toilet.
Yeah
Well I think we all want to see that 🤔
Hot shit vs shit box…I like it.
Lmfao
If I see that I will die laughing
I don't know if it's because I grew up in the 80's, but that F-14 is the most beautiful plane ever made.
The F14 really was a multigenerational aircraft which is why I think it is as popular as it is 70’s kids grew up with it. So did the 80’s, 90’s and even the early 2000’s
The F14 truly is a gorgeous airplane, but the F111 is my top pick. The sinuous curves and its pure capability and lethality make it the best for me. If you ever get the opportunity to walk around one - you might be surprised how perfect they are at every angle.
su-27 is the most beautiful, you're just being nostalgic
I grew up in the late 90’s-00’s and it’s definitely the most beautiful jet to me.
The p-38 is the my most beautiful plane though.
meanwhile with me, im a 90s kid so I fell in love with the F-18 at an early age. though i know im probly the minority, I still very much a fan of the F-18 or any other aircraft 2nd only to the F-22
The designers of the YF-17, Hornet, Super Hornet airframe seemed to have made it specifically for the one circle fight. Instaneous turns, and snap gun shots are its strengths. The Tomcat was designed for the sustained 2 circle fight. All a product of the times they were designed. Tomcat was a product of lessons learned from Vietnam. The YF-17 design coincided with the all aspect IR missile. Aircaft evolution is awesome!
Nowadays a Tomcat wouldn't last more than 3/4 turns. It's all 1 circle with HMD and high aspect Fox 2. That's probably one of the many reasons the F18 replaced the F14
HMD is not just a trick of the Hornet only. Others can get them too if..
@@dreaminknight that's not the point. You can have HMD but If the Platform is mounted on can't use it at 100% it would be useless. The whole point of HMD in a dogfight is to lock an enemy and then point your nose and shoot a fox 2
Had the F-14 been retained, it would've received the 9x with the HMD. While it wouldn't be as effective as the SH in the 1 circle, it would still be a very dangerous platform.
@@paoloxillo9012 ypu dont understand the principle. You dont have to really point your nose with HOBS like with the Mike or Limas
5:50 was absolutely beautiful cinematics! Like the end scene in Top Gun 1, where the second F-14 had to re-adjust it's aileron roll. The skies in that area of the world are intensely pretty at dawn and dusk, but man or man is it a blast furnace the rest of the day.
Yep ................I wouldn't want to live there, with climate change and political stability they have some big problems in the future.
Why does the F14 always look like it’s shaking apart like a 1990 geo metro? Honest question.
Because it is.
It’s called buffeting.
If you want a legitimate in depth answer, it’s what occurs when you fly at very high angles of attack.
The angle of attack being the acute angle between the chord line and the relative wind. The chord line being the imaginary line between the leading edge of a wing and the trailing edge. The relative wind being the air striking the aircraft’s wing, being opposite and parallel to the flight path.
When you fly at very high angles of attack, the smooth airflow over the wings becomes turbulent. The turbulence vibrates the aircraft. It’s more pronounced in the F-14 because it’s an old mechanical aircraft that wasn’t designed for these aerodynamic effects and doesn’t have a modern fly by wire control setup like the F-18. Plus I think it’s exaggerated in the flight model.
There's a good reason why the F-14 was beloved by pilots and hated by ground crew.
Its not a bug. Its a feature.
@@maicon9 It’s cool because it’s like the Tomcat is communicating with you.
We gotta start these tomcat videos with carrier take off lol With that said I was actually wanting a video like this today ! Super Hornet vs Tomcat thanks Man !!
With the start of that title, I thought it was gonna be a BVR fight where you do that cost of missile analysis for phoenix vs AMRAAM ha
like I forget which one it was, but I think you did a BVR fight tallying the total cost to a nation for all missiles/aircraft expended
Tomcat may have been replaced by the Super Hornet but it still has a ferocious bite.
I love how the F-14 shutters and shakes.
That’s analog aircraft for you. The F14 will tear itself apart if the pilots wills it because there’s no electronic g limiters, AOA limiters ect.
It's like driving an american made car from the same era.
Can't imagine not having both of these planes. The Hornet for when you're craving the stability and forgiveness of a modern aircraft, and a Tomcat for when you want raw power and speed with the handling of a warbird. And all those carrier ops.
80 hours of maintenance for every hour of flight time was why the Tomcat had to go away, the swing wing mechanisms were nightmarish to keep up and running, so you would not get an asymmetrical deploy or retract. Glad it's still available here, what a lovely way to keep it's memory alive for generations to come!
@@debbiestimac5175 I know! What a great way to enjoy that airframe without having to worry about turning wrenches and grease under your nails.
@@debbiestimac5175 did you see the maintenance of the f-35? that argument goes out of the window with the f-35.
@@zedeco but its also an f35
@@debbiestimac5175 Avionics were a similar azzpain.
i could never get on board with the hornet b/c the tomcat to me was just so much more beautiful. i used to go to the library and draw the tomcat with pen and pencil. initially, i would put the paper over the pic of the tomcat in the book and trace it out. eventually i could just draw it, more or less from memory. i guess it's an emotional thing for me.
All 4 and 4.5 gen aircraft are targets in the future.
I recently got invited by a friend in the navy to spend the day on one of the nimitz class carriers out at sea and i got to be on the flight deck while super hornets landed and took off and did flybys, it was so incredible lol
@@TheNapalmFTW it is currently the softest known method for the prevention of dangerous pandemics- like pregnancy!
That was some great flying on both sides.
Man that 3rd round was an absolute street brawl! 🙌
That last fight was very edge of your seat. Great fight
If I see an F14 in the thumbnail, I click it. It amazes me how well you're able to fly that aircraft....you have some serious talent man.🤘🤘🤘
Now do another version of this with the F/A-18 vs the Su-33, with Fox-2s
Honestly man, that night lighting looks really good. Definitely gives the dogfights that duel in the desert type of energy. Good fights.
Day 36 of asking for AH-64 Apache versus SU-57 Felon.
I like what you did yesterday btw.
👍
ZOOLANDER: "NOBODY MAKES ME BLEED MY OWN ENERGY!"
Can you try a ‘what if’ with phoenix missiles on the f-15, just to see how the f-15 tws would perform in an intercept scenario?
The biggest issue is the size of the Phoenix. That's why the Tomcat's engines are spaced so far apart, to get four of them in a 2x2 layout between the engine nacelles. There are pictures of a NASA F-15B with a Phoenix slung beneath it and it looks freaking goofy. NASA didn't care about looks or landing with it because they were using modified AIM-54s for Hypersonic testing. But you can quickly see how the Eagle would struggle with carrying the Phoenix. The F15 is a great aircraft, but the Tomcat was designed purposely to carry that giant missile and the giant radar needed to guide it.
Take a look at the AIM-54's measurements and you'll quickly realize that thing is nearly the size of some Patriot missiles.
Round 3, the separation was so big in the merge that I thought he didn't even see GS 😂😂 Great content ❤
Funny I was in a heated argument with a buddy just a couple weeks ago on this topic. He agreed to the innate sexy-ness of the F-14 (Followed closely by the F-15 of course) but argued that it could not compete. My argument was that if the same R&D that went into the Eagle, her contemporary, had also gone into the Tomcat then she would quite possibly be the best there ever was. And I NEED some of your fabulous cat merch.
What's in the Eagle that you need in the Tomcat?
Ya know, I've been subbed for... a while now. One thing that amazes me is just how overwhelmingly positive, supportive, funny, and hopeful your comment section is. I often recognize people making comments.
You're doing something WAY right bro.
Oh, the Tomcat!! Always a pleasure to watch
What about a Mig-21 VS. a Viggen??
Honestly, your best dogfight video such drama, suspense, tragedy. I immensely enjoyed this one. Cheers to Dex for the amazing flight and congrats to you for the victory🎉🎉
Great video. I really appreciate the effort you put in with the external shots as well
I love that rattle and shake in the Tomcat
more of you in the f18 please
this bird is being slept on a lot!
Good dog fighting guys!!! Fun to watch those two go at each other.
Always a joy watching your dogfights. Great narration, great action, great music.
I really enjoyed this fight, primarily because the F-14 won but also because you would describe your moves and why you chose them
GS thanks for having Dex back on he is a great driver, it was a treat to see someone hold there own in the Hornet wich is rare on CZcams respect to him!!!
Great video, as always, thank you.
I really miss your tacviews.
(Long videos, lots more work I'm sure.)
Ever heard of the Super Tomcat-21? Make it happen DCS
Thanks for another video! I really appreciate the effort you put in.
Good fights. In the video 15:02 there was a series of black flickers, this happens to me after the last patch as well.
ya its been a long ongoing issue with DCS, its not often this bad though.
The thrust advantage the F-14 B/D has over the Rhino, is enormous. It really gives F-14 even in low energy state, to climb into the vertical or in a two circle flow. I have heard F-14 B/D drivers say, it could go vertical even at around 180 knots, which is mind boggling as how slow it could climb vertically and also could accelerate vertically. The F-14A by comparison, needed close to 300 knots to go vertical so much higher energy state for the F-14A.
Love f 14
Awesome to see dog fight and get explanation along with the action . Just Awesome
Awesome GO dogfights. The 3rd one was fantastic. Yeah, the city looks outstanding too.
Dat Sinai Map lighting doe! SO GOOD!! 🤩
Is Jester on a day-off or did you duck-tape his mouth before flight?
I told him if he says a single word I was gonna replace him with r2d2
What happened to R2 D2 ? I miss him.
This one was especially beautiful with the lighting (and the most beautiful jet of course 🙂).
Have you ever tought about doing some more 1v1 ww2 dogfights?
I almost missed this one today, didn't get a notification. Glad I checked. Yes those graphics are amazing.
Damn the last round was so intense.
I would love to see a F-16 vs Mirage 2000 Dogfight!
Thank you for your awesome videos and explainations!
Man, that sunset lighting, though…😮
i enjoy how the tomcat shakes when you maneuver.
5:46 the beat drop always hype me up
Very good stuff!
Flight of the Intruder Quote: "You're my favorite pilot, Jake. Did you know that?"
Day one of asking for mustang vs spitfire, ( longshot as bandit pls)
The graphics are beautiful.
Everyone loves and overhypes the Tomcat, but the Hornet is a supremely versatile and capable jet. But yea the F14 is a beautiful jet for sure!
My personal favorite is the F-15E Strike Eagle.
I agree with all those statements
SAME.
Hornet is a jack of al trades but master of none
F/A18 is more practical for bvr and bfm nowadays just because of the armament it could carry. If the F14 received new avionics and modern armaments it would still be a relevant airframe today. The US government just didn’t want to pay for it
@@ICECAPPEDSKY Nor did they want to maintain it. The F-14 creates a huge sucking vortex on maintenance hours. And reliability was never very good. F-14 pilots will tell you that if they scheduled a 2-ship, they HAD to have a spare ready to go, because it was just about guaranteed that one of the jets would have a fault that kept it on the boat.
This ditching out of the 1 circle when I'm slow in the hornet. AHHHH it's anyone to watch you fly away
that last round got me hard. What a comeback
With all that ground clutter, I would hate to fight an F-16.
If I had a Time Machine I would go back in time and make sure that the ST-21 would be picked over the super hornet
NICE VERY WELL DONE ! 👊😎
Wow, this video is incredible! It really caught my attention right from the start. I love how you handled the gameplay, and your skill in the game is impressive. I can't help but ask for some tips to improve my own skills! Keep it up, I'm excited to see what you have in store for us in the next video. You're a true talent and deserve more visibility! 💪😃
17:16 great shot
Another solid day's work in the books.
PLEASE fly The F/A-18F with AIM-120C-7's VS F-14B Tomcat with AIM-54C's!🙏👍
Tomcat against that dusk background, gorgeous as always.
Brilliant fight.
The duel in the desert.
Damn the F-14 is beautiful.
I see Tomcat, I instantly hit like 👍
it was a really good fight from Dex !!!
You should do some old fashioned dogfights. Like the BF-109 against the Spitfire or something like that
I would love to see you fly some older sims featuring the planes you fly in DCS, like Jane's F-15 Strike Eagle or Fleet Defender. You can do some retro bombing or dogfighting
Good video.. extremely hard to see the bandit though
Sinai looks amazing!
Might to be fun to do a comparison video with these two also doing things like air to ground missions, bvr, etc. Asking “is it worth it?”
YF-23A vs. F-15STOL/MTD
In round 3, he could have fox2'd you in that fight after he tagged you first and you ditched the vertical one circle for the rate fight, but he didn't. And then he tagged you a bunch after but didn't finish the job with a fox2 again later.
Yep
5:16 I think he was just trying to show a thinner profile, I may be wrong though
Attended an event recently with several aircraft on display in a hangar. F15 with a tail hook and rear cameras on the tail assembly caught my eye. No photos were allowed in this area.
all F-15s have a tail hook and those cameras were probably ECM or ESM units
I loved this one, by the way, could you do some more WW2 stuff, especially with the FW-190D9.
A fight you don't see too often :)
That was Mighty Wings time after the first kill
5:58 to 6:02 is very Top Gun-esque.
Nice map
Next time could try flying the Super Hornet
Great flying by the Tomcat and Superbug as always, would you consider doing a Bombcat mission? We all know it's a great fighter, but how well is it at ground pounding?
Cats always messing with their prey until they get stun
Hey GS, are you considering recreating the most interesting aerial fights in aviation history, in collaboration with other virtual pilots? Cheers
you should do a a4 dogfighting a mig 21
2 nice birds fighting 'til destruction is the best.
Have you done a video explaining the terminology used? I enjoy these videos but am unsure of some of the terms used
Random thought, barely related to this video. Has anyone else noticed how similar the Felon is in design language to the upcoming 6th gen fighters being worked on by the US, Britain/India/Japan?
I mean, take the Felon and either put a V-tail on it or remove the vertical stabs and you have a very 6th gen looking aircraft. The engines, both in terms of power and how the IR signature is better concealed, would still need some upgrading/updating, but it's still interesting.
1:14 Blink strikes again!
Request: The St. Louis Showdown. F-15EX vs. F/A-18F Block III
I think you should go 4 rounds and at 2 round in swap aircraft. This would give us the best comparison.
The most unrealistic ejection on DCS
I bet he realized a lot when those tracers started coming in.
Would be great if there could be an BVR fight between the super hornet and the F14!
