Joe Buissink's photography is about capturing the moments, and the essence of the person in those moments. His work redefines wedding photography, and has been described as "Fine Art." Joe began photographing weddings because he was drawn to the open and honest display of emotions. He considers himself a "seeker of truth" at weddings - searching intently for those rare and intimate moments between loved ones. This search has not only defined Joe's style of photography, but has also guided his passion and has become the driving force behind what Joe considers his greatest obsession.
Hey all!! Thank you so much for the kind words. They are very much appreciated. I'm fortunate that I can say I've never worked a day in my life (well maybe when I was 16). I have always followed my passion, and when you come from that place... it's never work. Best to everyone and continue to stay on the path!!
Thanks for doing the presentation. Very educational and Inspiring.
great job, wonderfull pictured emotions
Your heart pours out in this video! Thank you so much for sharing!
this literally put in words how i feel behind a camera and gave me chills ...wow it really shed light on it all thank you
Thanks for this video. I'm now 45 and have my first wedding job in September. I've a lot to learn but this helps me remember why I became passionate about photography in the first place.
Randomly browsing the internet, trying to get information.
I just wanted to get some photography tips, but you ended up making me cry like a teenager and rethink my whole life.
Thank you uncle Joe.
I never thought a tutorial about wedding photography would be so emotional and inspiring...
This is one of the best photography videos on youtube which I´ve seen. Almost 2 hours but no second is useless. Thanks for sharing you´re way of work, Joe. It inspires me enormously.
So far probably the best 2 hours I spent on youtube!
a bissal spät (zumindest für mi ;)
2 hours that went by way too fast. I want more...
"I will sacrifice sharpness ANYTIME to capture the moment...anytime." Words to live by, photographers.
I've been a portrait and sports photographer for quite a while now. I've never done weddings because I've been personally jaded about them for many reasons. Marriage had become something else, to be easily discarded. I watched your video. It was so emotional. I love your story (though heart-breaking) and took your advice on self-examination. I booked my first wedding at 47 years old. I just shot that wedding yesterday at 48. It was one of the most fulfilling shoots ever! There were so many moments on that farm in Kansas. My team is exhausted, but well worth it. Thank you so much Joe for your passion and inspiration! I have a feeling that this will not be our last. Sincere thanks and God bless!
I went to college as an adult for photography and the program was film based... The vision behind your images is what captured my passion for making images although until today, two years after graduation, I have never made an image for a paying client. I agreed to do small elopement type weddings for a historical venue, and my first wedding shoot is today. I am terrified, but your video has brought me back to what I love most about photography, that private moment when you capture an interaction. Thank you more than words can say for this presentation. I feel the images I take today will be so much better for watching and re-learning my passion.
So true. I love how his wedding photos look natural and organic, and artistically rendered. Nothing fake and phony about his photos. You can sense his presence in really being 'there' with his subjects, special moments you can't recreate but to capture in a magical split second frozen in time. His photos are genuine and from the heart, and demonstrates the photographer's passion and professional abilities in capturing candid emotions. He ethically pays homage to the people he's shooting images of, an important quality of a great photographer that speaks volumes of quality images!
Completely blown away. The advice is fantastic. Your work is breathtaking. You are so very generous to share your knowledge with us. A big collective thank you!
When working is not only about the money. Man ... what a storyteller .. this is the kind of things that exceeds technology ... is about the human nature! BEAUTIFUL!
Whenever I get ready to shoot a wedding, I always go back and watch Joe. Not so much for the Fstop and Shutter speed stuff but just for his enthusiasm. It gets me fired up.
Thanks Joe.
I am so excited to photograph my first two weddings this year. I pray that I can get through them without crying. I cried every time Joe played a slide show. Thank you for sharing your story with us and inspiring us to not only shoot images but to capture perfect moments. I'm excited to start working in the "P" mode and see if I can make it as easy as you make it sound. Thanks again for the 2 hours of pure photography pleasure. Can't get that on TV these days!!!
I have just spent my time to see the entire video, and there were more than one occasion during the slideshows, in which i just let my tears come on. What an impressive yet simple job, which gives us a lot to think. Congratulations.
Hi Joe, wow, wow, wow, I have finally found the one photographer I can 1000% relate to. What you do is exactly how I feel about photography. While everybody is obsessed about tacksharp photos all I want is to catch all those special moments nobody else sees. I will be photographing my sons wedding in may, my first ever wedding I shoot myself but I know in my heart that they will love what they will get out of it....now that I have seen your video here I am that....they will have all the special moments forever to hold and remember. Thanks so much for sharing, I love your work!
I'm not an emotional guy, but by the end of every slideshow I had tears streaming down my face. What a powerful and emotional speaker Joe is. I have a renewed passion for my craft. If I could, I would watch this video before EVERY shoot. Thank you "Uncle Joe"
8 years are gone since this video was published...still love this man and his passion. The most inspiring artist i've ever watched!
Have no idea how I missed this video. I have seen many who leave trickles of emotion, power, and love in their albums. Viewing the slide show was like a floodgate opening. It surrounded me. It pulled me under and immersed me in his world for a few moments in time. What a gift of understanding so few attain. Perhaps one day ..............................
B&H recognizes his mastery of the wedding. In program mode - whut? lol Thanks B&H - you continue to rock!
Thank you B&H for turning me onto the artistry of Joe Buissink. As a photographer, I feel I evolved in the time I spent with this video.
Duuuuuuuude. I will be watching this again and again and again!
40 minutes in and I'm sold! I must have watched a good 30-40 of these event space videos and not once have I hung on every word like I am with this guy. The raw passion he has for his work shows exponentially in every word he says. Every word he says makes perfect sense. Off to find him on social media, so I can follow him. His work is beautiful too.
This video made my cry a few times. It strangely... or not so strangely... made me feel all the the love I have for my pets. I am shooting a wedding on Saturday and it is my 3rd digital but 7th overall and this video gave me soooo much inspiration! It made me really proud to be an amateur in this art form and proud of the work I have already done. I definitely thought about what I bring above other photographers. I think the reason a lot of people don't think about that is that they are afraid they won't come up with anything. I was.... but I did and I want to thank you for that!
He said and showed more about photography than anyone else before not even mentioning camera, settings or any other technicality....Pure art and more than that...
whoever dislike this video must be from WPPI... Hands down maestro Joe.... Now I am pumped up... where is the wedding tomrw? bring it on!!!!!!
longest video i've ever watched on youtube and i think i'm going to watch it again. simply awesome.
Rick Lowe Absolutely my favorite as well. Love me some Joe Buissink. Worth every minute, I bet I've watch it at least 20 times, literally.
He's kinda put into words what I feel when I shoot weddings.
By far - the best video from B&H. Finally someone who talks without egoism, goes straight to the point, and gives really useful advice. Great job!
Joe Buissink's advices are brilliant! Find them very very useful! And as for his pictures, they are so lovely that by looking at them making me want to cry.
I don't usually comment on videos, but this guy is amazing. I was in tears throughout !! I love him x
I am shooting my very first very small wedding tomorrow and found this video. Your personal story around 19:00 minutes made me cry. I love what you said about passion and how we put a bit of "ourselves" in all that we do and create. It reminds me that in life, like photography (at least in terms of editing) you can sometimes take that which is not pretty and make it lovely none the less. Capturing the emotion...people will see that more than they will know whether or not you have it technically "perfect".
How did the wedding go?
I usually get bored watching videos that last 10minutes. Nearly 2 hours and this one is just not long enough. Totally inspiring. Thank you.
You know the love, sincerity, passion and feeling coming from the couple multiplies the passion, motivation and creativity of the photographer. Don't book flat, passionless brides and grooms. It matters so be picky about your clients.
This is quite possibly the best video I have watched. This completely blew me away, even brought a tear for the baby. If you are thinking the video is too long, make time. It's so refreshing to listen to someone with that much passion for something he is doing. Well done Sir. I would even watch it all again.
This video has been precious to understand that I have to study my pictures to understand my way my style, whereas I am always looking at the work of others to get inspired. Thanks for sharing your experience.
so inspiring, I smile when he's talking about the moments that he remembers capturing because I feel the passion that he conveys.
''The Perfect Moment'' was when I pressed 'play' to watch this video! Thank you so much for igniting the passion in me for wanting to be the photographer I have always wanted to be, behind the scenes just capturing the moment! I just wish you asked that groom to take his flip-flops off when doing the shoot in the water, haha, I think it would have looked much better if he was bare foot. Probably the most heart warming video I have ever seen, thank you 'uncle' Joe!
Joe is incredibly magnetic. Love his style and philosophy and just watching him teach. More than any other photographer. Wish there was videos with him!
This guy is amazing and his work is exceptional.
Between 17:00-20:00 was one of the most amazing and memorable photography insight into a passionate world I have ever seen in any CZcams video. Thanks for sharing!
THX Joe for Shareing your experience and Time with us. I had tears in my eyes!
Joe is the BEST! LOVE his work! Thank you B & H for bringing us another quality presenter!
Man youre not just a photographer... Youre an orator...you can run for presidency....great video!!!!! I love photography!!!!!
I cant say enough about the passion you have about what your doing Joe, your incredible. Thanks for making this and sharing your story! It has given me the inspiration I needed to get back behind the camera! Thanks, Jason
Dude!! i rarely comment on videos, but yours man your video made me want to comment, ive seen thousand of tutorials on how to shoot weddings, and most of the time they will say: you need the sharpest lens, the best flash, the best gear, this is out of focus this is not sharp enough .. none of them would talk they way you do, about emotion, about passion about capturing that emotional moment, this is by fart the best video ive seen about photografy and no just wedding.
Great stuff man, keep up the good work, it´s inspirational
Legend Joe, i love the way he sees the light, capturing moments.
I have watched countless photography presentations and I have enjoyed all of them. This presentation is by far the best of them all, you captivated me throughout and I hung on every word. Thank you for practically two hours of total enjoyment. I sincerely hope you do more presentations because I learnt a great deal from this one.
I am a huge fan, I have watch this video about half a dozen times and I get something new from it each time. I wholeheartedly feel the way Joe does about getting that moment shots. Thank you for this video I am inspired.
wow you have so much passion Joe, I wish someone could photograph you in the moment without you knowing. Thank you so much Joe Buissink, this was so inpirational. I have wondered why I get emotional while photographing weddings, it is like you said, you are part of the moment shared between the couple. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge!
I'm shooting my first wedding later this year and I am BEYOND nervous. What an amazing time to stumble across this amazing video.
What an absolutely fantastic video. So much good information and such breathtaking images. I feel exactly the same way Joe does, and tend to shoot more candid than posed. Those unexpected moments are worth everything. His slideshows - i don't know these people, i was not a part of any of it - heck this comment is 2 years after the video was uploaded - but i'm feeling the love and his passion and i'm tearing up over these beautifully candid moments he's captured in his slideshows. Brilliant. Thank you so very much!
So much raw emotion and passion from this speaker. What a great artist, speaker, storyteller, and photographer. Truly the best video I've watched on photography from any source. Bravo B&H!
the best video I have seen.I was crying while watching Joe Buissink .love you. Thanks B& H
Don't think I've ever heard anyone more inspiring about art, period. Another great one by Joe. Bravo.
Awe inspiring, when it can put tears in your eyes, you know it's good.
Most touching photography I've ever seen!
There is so much of me that I see in him. Thank you Joe for those inspiring words.
After watching this I can say there is no point in watching anyone else. You have reminded me why I picked up a camera. Thank you soooooooo much for your advice and sharing your priceless & intimate photographs.
Generally my attention span drifts off in the first 15, I was with you all the way Uncle Joe. Thx man.
Thank you b&h for this.
Thanks Joe. Many of the points you shared are are what I feel when I do a shoot. Because I am doing it solo I spend quite a bit of time doing group shots ect. But the unobtrusive style of capturing the moment to me is more of my forte. The reaction I get when a client sees these images I've captured are what fuels my passion. Lately It seems I've been kind of stuck in a rut. Truth be told watching this has inspired me.Thanks again.....
Who needs college when you have Joe Buissink on youtube.
This is very emotional learning. This should be standard to watch for all photographers.
This is quite the most inspiring photography workshop I've seen. Overwhelming and brilliant.
Your love for photography is so contagious. Thank you for the inspiration!
Very touchy story telling. Done with love to the ART. I'm going to watch it several times... And will do this again.
I may be just an amateur photographer, but occasionally I happen to nail shots just the way I like them. And this is because (a) I'm passionate about what I'm doing, and (b) because I trust my intuitions when I shoot. It's immensely uplifting to see a seasoned pro like Joe Buissink work pretty much the same way. Also like his unashamed comments on P-mode shooting and pattern metering. A talented and charismatic speaker, too.
I wept a few times watching this tutorial....so powerful!
WOW, I knew I shot a certain way for a reason, but you nailed it. Thank you for helping me define my style. I live for capturing the moment and the moment before the moment.
That slide show!!!! OMG!!! Right in the feels!!!
wow....you are amazing ...after your childhood story ...i cant imagine what you think when you shoot ...bravo my friend ,BRAVO !
This video is the best of its kind! Thank you for sharing this Joe..
Dammm Dammm Joe, I thought being over 250 Lbs I was very tough hard nose guy. Those last slideshows had me in tears. Wow photography is powerful... Thanks for sharing
Thank you so much for this. I'm a new photographer learning the ropes with hopes and dreams of becoming better than average or at least......better than I am. I've only had the pleasure of shooting three weddings and I have to say how much I love it!! You made me tear up as I watched all the emotion you captured.
Really, really enjoyed this. Could not stop watching the entire video. Thanks you so much for being so inspirational Mr Buissink
WOW. That's is the true passion "THE ETHOS" of Photography. AMAZING VIDEO. Thanks from AUstralia Loved it:))
Very inspiring and insightful video
I think the greatest lesson to learn from this is that it doesn't matter WHAT you sell exactly, is HOW you sell it.
There are FAR better photographers out there, with a lot more technical skill than Joe. I am looking at the photos from the sunset beach ceremony - the angles are not the best, there is some obvious HDR look due to the fact he shot with no additional light or reflector against the sun, the composition is often not at it's best, sometimes due to improper focal length, the place and the weather looks absolutely stunning and had an incredible potential - but these are the things only another trained eye could see, another photographer or someone "in the business" - not wanting to sound "braggy" but most of the clients have no idea about straight horizons, rules of third, perspective distorsion etc.
Surely some other photographer could have pulled a WAY BETTER job there, but in the hearts of the clients, these are the best photos in the world, absolutely perfect. And that's pretty much the most important thing.
Joe may not be the best technical and skilled photographer, far from it, but he is one of the most sought after and ( I reckon ) expensive photographers in the world, because I have rarely seen someone talk with so much passion and soul about his work - regardless of profession ( not just photography ). He simply takes you and dives you in an ocean of emotion and feelings just by listening to him - it's simply impossible for him NOT to be successful. It's very obvious he loves his work and not only he believes what he is talking about, he also FEELS IT and makes the client feel it too.
It was an absolute honor to see this workshop online and I've learned more about life and soul, about expressing to clients, about making them feel unique, than I did about pure photography as a profession.
If I had the money, I would probably pick someone else as my wedding photographer for the reasons stated above, but hell, it was very inspiring to hear him talk. This workshop will not make you a better photographer ( like many others might ) - but it will show you what it takes to actually be a GREAT MAN - a great performer and why not, a great salesman.
Congratulations mr. Joe Buisink, it's been ... emotional !
I disagree that another photog could have done any of this better. I believe that Joe has all those skills and could make the balance and exposure perfect in every shot but would that have made for better photography? This isn't a science it's an art. Some say photography is painting with light... that is a pretty idea but I say it is painting with emotion and if a picture has all the light and no emotion... why would anyone want to look at it? He is one of the best because he breaks the rules, gets the emotion and makes an image worth looking at and THAT in a world of more and more pixels and buttons is actually what photography is about. WAY BETTER? No I don't think you actually caught the point of the video if you are typing that after watching it.
what can i say? it's an art, and each photographer has its own color that we cant compare
Dang it Joe! Every time I see you speak you bring tears to my eyes! Thank you! You are amazing and make me want to be like you!
This is the true essence of photography.
I love his passion, his style and his attitude.! Thank you Joe.
I am interested in shooting film again. I shot in the 70's and really had no idea
of what I was doing. Since going digital shooting film has me intrigued and to be a better photographer.
Thnak you JOE Love the show. I always had that inspiration about Photography, painting, and music. You made it clear for me. I do the same when I shoot wedding, and event when fans cry about their actor , or artist.. Job well done.. Love it every minute of It. have been doing Photography for 15 years as hobbiest. never found theway to get into to PROS/ thank you again.
Amazing person doing amazing work, an inspiration to photographers world wide. Thanks for this video, playing this with 2 to go from my first wedding.
Absolutely amazing!!! The best video I've watched so far and it reminded me of why I love photography so much.
wow the images at 13:00 and on, brought tears to my eyes! Truly art and compelling!
Simply an amazing human being, professional and photographer!!!!!! Fantastic video B&H congrats!!!!!
This is the best video I've watched from the B&H event space. Thank you. Very inspiring. This came just in time when I'm in those "dips" all photographers goes through from time to time.
Thank you. For the inspiration, for the encouragement, for permission to be myself. I found this by accident, but it was perfect timing. Exactly what I needed to hear.
He is mad, eccentric :) But one of the greatest I have ever seen. Each picture tells a story. Love it! Thanks B&H
WOW. Even a tough guy like me gets chocked up during the slideshow of the beach wedding!
In regard to your other question about what "PJ" stands for...PJ in this context refers to the "Photo Journalism" category of photos in contests he was a judge/chair in for WPPI. - Yossi
Probably the best BH video thus far...Joe is just awesome - thank you for inspiration!
Very passionate, great presenter
That may have been the best b&h video yet. Stunning photos and inspirational presentation. Brilliant

Exceptional presentation. The emotion and passion Joe has as a photographer is infectious and very inspirational. I hope someday to be able to express my passion and love for photography as well as Joe can both educationally and through the lens. Absolutely amazing work all around.
