  • Decided I wanted to reinstall the air dam on my 2019 GMC Canyon. But I didn't want to put it back on in the original form. So trimmed it down a bit. Looks MUCH better than the original snow plow air dam.

    Don't get upset! I reinstalled the air dam. But I trimmed it significantly so it doesn't hang so low. I think it looks pretty good!

      If you need to cut plastic trim dremel has a cutting wheel for plastic, and makes pretty clean cuts.

    I did my canyon but I left the air dam on the truck and measured 2.5" in the center and 3" on the corners from the bottom edges of air dam. Ran the blue tape across the points of the air dam and measured constantly until it was right. After I got the blue tape and measurements right. I proceeded to cutting using an electric type dremel tool with a small metal cutting disc I got mine at harbor freighttools . Start cutting from the driverside corner or right side looking at the front bottom air dam. Proceed slowly and be precise cutting right to left across on the air dam. After cutting I used a very fine sand paper to smooth out the rough edges on the bottom and a razor blade to cut out the uneven parts of the air dam. Just trim a little bit of plastic on the uneven parts of the air dam. After I put on a coat of plastic conditioner or armor all to make it pop out. It works well and looks great and it's fast and simpler because you don't have to remove the air dam. Took me 1 hour including measuring,taping, cutting,and finishing.

      That’s a great method. Glad it worked out and you’re satisfied with the results. Thanks for watching and thanks for posting!

      I like this method, no removal of the dam necessary.

    I just threw a video of mine up- didn’t notice yours first. You should consider rounding the outside bottom corners for more of a “factory but better” look. Subjective opinion of course. As far as people asking how much to cut off- just figure out how much you guys want showing through the center and follow that line out to fill the voids in the corners. My mpg difference was closer to 2 mpg. Love that red.

    I'll keep the airdam off for now, but your version does look good! Better than factory. I noticed a consistent 1mpg hit to my economy with the dam off, but I do a lot of highway miles.
    I wonder if this trimmed version would increase the mpg enough to make me reconsider.
    Great video!

    Awesome. Been thinking of doing this my self. So basically u cut it to have a smiley face ? 4 inches on the sides 2 in the center ?

      Less than 1 mpg difference. I still manage to see 21-22 mpg during highway cruising.

    I don't see why people are removing these or consider them an eyesore. This was the air dam that was designed for the truck and I'm sure they did aerodynamic tests before it was approved. I didn't want affect engine cooling or aerodynamics so I let it be.

    • @fondupot
      @fondupot  Před 2 měsíci

      Mines been remove for a long time. No adverse effects noted. Same with many others who’ve done the same. It comes down to personal preference. Keep yours if you want.
