      I like some of Clapton's music, but I'm less crazy about him as a person. I didn't know the story behind the song until now. He wanted to snatch someone's wife and he then writes songs about it? He has also become anti-vaxx.

    This is a great lesson for one of my favourite songs. The comparison with Something is interesting, especially given that both songs are written about the same woman, Patty Boyd.

    I have seen Eric play this song live and chord 4 in the verse he played as a C7 as opposed to an Am/G. I guess we all know Eric changes chords when he feels like it... Anyway, that also sounded bluesy. Great demo by the way!

    During the chorus, Bobby chimes in with the fire alarm sounding slide, which is probably just tapping up and down on the bars in A. The mimicked alarm sound sets the desperate tone of the song. The relationship is in a state of emergency. Clever guitar effect. It could also just be Eric tapping harder on that A chord solo too.

    Great song - one my favs to play. Coming from acoustic solo performance, I've always liked to barre my chords in that second part ("Do you want to see me crawl across the floor for you"), and started playing the D chord barred on the 5th fret A string, but with E ringing out on the B string, rather than F#. Is that a D5add9? Kind of a different chord, but always seemed to suit this song here. I was curious to see how you play it. Neat lesson Jon, thanks!

    This "I use my thumb" thing is ridiculous. I have huge hands, but I can't use my thumb due to an injury. Besides, I would think most people watching this video are beginners, maybe intermediate. Can you teach without using your thumb for almost every chord?? Thx.

    Does not track with the original. I hate what Clapton did to change the song.

  • @RaininMoonlight
    @RaininMoonlight Před 3 lety +2

    you asked if Clapton was influenced by George Harrison in the writing of this song......I'd say "yes", if Clapton had actually written it.....but, Bobby Whitlock actually wrote it.....

    • @jeffcookdotau
      @jeffcookdotau Před 3 lety +6

      Whitlock stated in an interview in 2011 that "Eric started the song ... He played me the first two verses at his house and I helped with the last verse". That would suggest that Eric wrote the music himself.

    Nice lesson on the chords, but you teased folks with the lead part. It's not part of this lesson and very disappointing. WTF

    • @jonmaclennan
      @jonmaclennan  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Phil! So sorry you're disappointed. The part I played at the beginning is not on the actual recording it's just an improvised jam which is how I start all my videos, that's why I didn't teach it. Also this is a lesson on how to play the chords to the song, not the solo. When I do solo lessons I will post it in the title. Stay tuned though I have another solo lesson on this coming soon. In the meantime grab my free book about soloing here: www.jonmaclennan.com/freebook
