This Free Online Guitar Lesson is Crossroads by Cream with Eric Clapton.
I started dreaming of the guitar around then, and I didn't start playing till age 12. By the time I was 14 I was playing whatever version of crossroads I could muster.
Once again I have to thank Steve Maase for being probably the greatest guitar teacher in the world. We were and still are lucky to have Steve in Albuquerque New Mexico.

The greatest guitar solo of it's time, it had everything, even Hendrix was mesmerised by Cream. The interesting thing about this solo is if you learn to play it, it will teach you everything you can do on a guitar (apart from tapping and whammy bar techniques). It will teach you double stops, double bends, slides, hammer ons, pull offs, vibrato etc. I also believe this is the most complete solo Clapton ever performed, it's melodic, intense, fast, accurate, and had every single thing in it Clapton knew how to do at the time.Tim pays a nice homage to Clapton at the end of the solo, but Claptons end solo is incredible!

The weird thing is that Clapton didn’t like it. He said he screwed up the timing a couple of times. I agree with you though!

This was the first song and solo I ever learned, and was back in 1986. The tablature arrived in a guitar player magazine and I just poured over it. I have forever been glad that I learned it, because everything else following wasn't too tough and paved the way for me to learn other player's guitar styles. After this song, I went deeply into Hendrix, Jeff Beck, and the three Kings.

Tim is just the best. So calm and mellow when explaining and giving alternatives on way making you believe in yourself that anything is possible. Thanks Tim, this really helps in my study of Clapton's Cream era playing. It is very useful in grasping the combining of Major and Minor scales.. Your lessons are much appreciated. Clapton's playing during that time is an education in blues/rock guitar. Thought I would never grasp the Major/Minor thing, but the light is coming on for me thru lessons like this. The original is a classic, and for it's time, altering. You play it so smoothly when you do it homage. When you start to improvise you retain the phrasing cadence a just kill it with your improvisation. Thank you for sharing.

Is there a moment when you were learning guitar, that your teacher or someone pointed out something that you were doing wrong, like how you were holding your pick, etc..that changed everything? I watch these and of course say "wow" like 99.9% of everyone else, but watching you teach makes things not only attainable, but much less frustrating...live forever! eagerly awaiting any material from you! thanks millions!
