      It is! Also the most versatile of the bunch thnx to it's way too wide (for a metal guitar) ranged parametric eq. You can really get it screaming at any frequency. (mine is slightly modded and also self oscillates!). I also got a Dirty Rat for the more classic sound, but if I want it agressive and raw, it's MT-2 all the way.

    Thank you for posting this! I have both the TD-3 and TB-03. I really like the internal distortion on the TD-3 and was trying to find the same effect for the TB-03. I tried the Rat, DS-1, and SD-1 based on this video and I think the SD-1 sounds the best. The Rat was OK, but too noisy and choppy, if that makes sense? It did keep a lot of the low end but that kind of gives it a muddy sound. The DS-1 sounded surprisingly horrible on every setting with no way to turn the effect down. My preferred setting on the SD-1 is with the drive turned down almost entirely and the tone about half way up - just gives it a little bit of extra warmth without ruining the sound. It does kill the bass but not a big deal for me - I'm not looking to do hard acid, just adding some 303 lines on top of the mix.

    • @KUSHGRAM
      @KUSHGRAM  Před 2 lety

      If I'm not wrong the TD3 it's a sort of clone the DS1. The TB3 built in overdrive recalls the Sd1 but it's different if you compare with the original one.
      The technique of balance beetween drive and output level it's useful in order to have more colors in your sound. Cheers!

      @@KUSHGRAM It's funny, right after I posted that I decided to give the Boss BD-2 a try and found that it was just ever-so-slightly better than the SD-1. I think they could get very similar sounds with some EQing, but directly out of the pedal the BD-2 retains more of the original tonal range, which means less of a noticeable change in tone when turning the pedal on. The expanded range also seems to sit the 303 into the mix a little better and gives it more space to be heard.

      I think they grabbed anything avaliable... The input gain stage of whatever mixer used was prolly the most common source in the early years. You get a fairly classic sound from almost any od/dist of that era. Especially eq'ed in a full mix. That said, I do like the sound of that super od in comparison... Got the other ones plus a sansamp, the mxr d+ and a big muff, but I might "need" a TS too now. Damn gas!

    • @boriscat1999
      @boriscat1999 Před 3 lety

      Pro Co RAT is somewhere between a fuzz and a distortion. Guitar guys are sometimes surprised by the RAT distortion because it has a fuzz sound. But it's all *technically* distortion, even over-drive. I guess it's just different flavors :-)

    • @austinanthony4016
      @austinanthony4016 Před 3 lety +5

      @@MrArpSolina yes people used their own distortion effects but overdrive was something more universally accessible with how generic outboard gear works with amplifying audio, keep in mind acid is pre-Hardfloor.
      back during those times you could go to a venue with just a 303 and chances are there would be a way to overdrive through most venue's setup since overdrive is based on amplification principles and distortion is based on manipulating the waveform of the actual source audio itself.(speaking as a live audio engineer who produces electronic music)
      the end result can be similar but the audio processing is different. live grassroots acid tended to rely on overdrive more times than not over distortion because broke ass techno artists would just jam their 303 in guitar amps equipped with common Tube overdrive or push the gain stage on a mixer + EQ someone else provided. easier that way for most people in the scene rather than waste their shallow pockets on a distortion pedal.
      PS keep in mind that at the end of the day its preference for what kind of 303 sound suits an artists own ears and their listeners, i tend to prefer overdrive because i feel like it is less "muddy" sounding and thats just an opinion. Ive just listened to way too much techno lol

    You gotta realize that these pedals all just turn up the gain until it clips, and the important part is the filtering. That's what keeps it from all distorting to white noise. You can't demo a 303 without showing the range of the filter, because that's what makes the iconic part of the 303 sound. And you can't appreciate what a distortion pedal can do if you're not really exploring the interaction of that pedal's EQ vs. the the synth's filter. And different pedals sound better for much different things. Most of these pedals be good for lead acid stuff, but most of them will also kill the lower bass tones completely no matter how much you turn the tone knobs. So the Fuzz might sound bad on some lead stuff because it loses the clarity, but it sounds so much better in the lower range.

I route the output with an instrument cable into a TR8. But that’s only 1 input and needs 2. Can’t find any info. Anyone have some tips?

    • @JH-lo9ut
      @JH-lo9ut Před 7 měsíci +1

      The TD3 outputs mono sound through it's main output. (The headphones out is stereo) Most FX pedals are mono too, but some are stereo.
      You can get a splitter cable that divides the mono signal into two equal halves. This is the easiest solution, but it doesn't work perfectly, you'll get lower signal strength on each of the channels, an you may also get some phase cancellation issues.
      Another, better solution is to get a mixer. The mixer will turn your mono signal into a true stereo output with much more control of the output signal. You can then route the output signal from the mixer, into your tr-8 if you want to use the side chain functionality.
      Don't plug your tr-8 back into the same mixer though, unless you are absolutely sure what you are doing. (It will blow out your speakers /eardrums)

    I don’t why but it doesn’t sound right. There’s something wrong with your chain or perhaps you might need a si box

    You need to reamp these pedals, so much noise.

    The best one is... the MXR M-104 Distortion + ... Have a look at this site, 29 different distortion pedals are tested on TB-303 patterns: www.acidvoice.com/tb_303_best_distortion_pedal.htm

    I am really sorry but no one of these Pedals is my favorite. I think the MXR Distortion + is the closest to be the best in my ears. Please check the videos if #DUCKTRONIC for a lot of examples.

      never tried before an MXR distortion. Maybe in the future I can buy or exchange one :)
      Thanks!

      @@KUSHGRAM Yes, give it a try. You can listen to it at #DUCKTRONIC channel. I was surprised because there is only one prameter to tweak the sound. And MXR has some more nice pedals, the delays for example are brilliant for synths too. Have fun!

    Guys never use distortion for acid tracks. Acid is made of overdriven sound. More punchy, more saturated. Distortion can't achieve it.
