It's crazy isn't it, a BBQ made out of material that melts when it gets hot. I think they had the work experience kid lead the design team.

I just had a massive fat fire on my Weber Family Q doing a pork roast. I made the mistake of turning on the middle burner towards the end of cooking to try to improve the crackling. All the rendered fat in the Weber Convection tray ignited and it looked like a bloody missile strike. I had neighbors calling asking if my house was on fire. I just had to stand and watch my roast burn to dust because you can't put out a fat fire. Luckily, I don't think my barbie was damaged, but it seems like pork roasts are a real risk.
Surprised your BBQ wasn't damaged. They do melt when they get that hot.
hi Mike, your videos one of the first i've seen with a LPG placed under the cart. Can you please tell me how well it fits? is the standard gas hose long enough or did you get an extension done? thanks mate
Not sure what you mean, this is how the BBQ comes when you buy it new from the shop, every single one I have ever seen is like this, I have never seen one not like this. Everything is 100% standard how it came out of the box.
@skeche This is an Australian version, comes with a standard LPG (propane) hose because we cant use butane cans on these here which is shit because it makes them less portable
I did a roast on mine, it was a little dark, took the roast off, shut everything off, no flame at all. Noticed a few days later, it's all melted
Would love to have sat in on the design meeting the day they decided to build a BBQ out of a plastic that melts when it heats up. Seems like the work experience kid was left in charge. 🤣🤣

Whau ! I love your videos Mike and hopefully you succeded to stop the fire xD ! But big question, how the fire started ? It was because of the fat plate under the Q ? Also, since this happended, does Weber already replaced your Q ?
Yes it was a fat fire. Weber did not replace the BBQ, they did replace the damaged parts. I will be doing a video about it soon.

Super helpful video thank you!! I’ve been toying with buying a BBQ for a good while now and the Weber was top of my list. As I’m now at the point where I was pretty much decided on biting the BBQ bullet I thought I’d review the models one last time and up cane your video when I sorted by date for the latest takes on Weber. Now I’ve read what’s happening with this being a common occurrence and their customer service looks pretty damn awful I think I may have to strike them off. I’ll keep an eye on your channel to see what happens with yours first. Nice to meet you. We’re in Brissy👋🏼
Oops, meant to say, it might be worth mentioning to Weber that you have a CZcams channel where you often include your BBQ. That may give them the impetus to sort things out if they know your case is public. Not saying they shouldn’t treat everyone the same, just that you may find they are a bit more helpful if they know you have a public platform even if it’s only small. I personally think companies should be very careful in this day and age because even if you are a small channel, people see not only the good but also the negative stuff if they are looking for it, just like I found your story 🤷🏻♀️
They have posted me the replacement parts, will be doing an updated video soon when they arrive. It's a great BBQ, but this should not happen IMO.

Wow i used to demo for weber only ever had one flare up on a demo q that the cook box hadn't been cleaned in a while. I have a quick and easy way i clean mine.
Did weber replace this as the customer service ive seen is pretty awesome here in Australia
No, they send parts to repair, Personally I think they should have replaced the whole thing, I have a video on it if you check my other videos.
@@MikesManCave I had engineer come out to my family q that over heated . He changed cook box , lid grills and thermostat. It’s weird how they just do parts . Like you say you’d think they would just replace the whole item . Would be a lot quicker . But they are good for warranty
Hi Mike. Any update on this matter? Seems that you may need to insist on your Australian Consumer Guarantee. Ignore the warranty as it has little meaning in AU.
They (Weber) have send the replacement parts, I have filmed an updated video already, I just have not had time to edit it. There will be an update in the next few weeks.

The parts have been delivered, I have a number of boxes in my shed, I just have not had the time to even look at them. I will be doing an updated video on this one of these days. This issue is quite common on Weber forums, but weber generally fixes it. They offered to sent a technician out to but due to me living in. remote rural area not technicians are available.
My 2011 Q220 just did the same thing to me. Yet it was clean (I had cleaned it 1 week before). And unfortunately no longer guaranteed. I contacted Weber, and they no longer make parts for the Q220. And according to them the Q2200 parts don't fit on it... Is there a DIY solution, or is everything good for the trash? THANKS.
If you can't get parts then it's trash I suppose, or get a second hand one for parts, build a good one out of two broken ones, many people throw them out on hard rubbish day.
Thank you for your reply. This model is not very common in France unfortunately. sad, because the idea was good: no rust, light and efficient... but if it melts it's a bit of a shame! making a frame or at least steel legs would perhaps be the solution...

I totally love my Weber and found your video after searching for 'melting Weber." I'm sick about it because my Weber also melted into its stand. Can you please tell me if it was ever resolved? Like you, I keep my grill quite clean and scrape out the inside regularly. I had a few days in a row where I made some burgers that were admittedly somewhat greasy. On the second day, I standing by the grill and saw flames. I flipped up the lid, saw the grease pan had caught fire and the fire spread to the bottom pan. I was literally standing right there when this happened and turned it off immediately after opening the lid. I thought nothing of it until I could no longer flip in the right table and close the lid. This was a single instance, and like yours it melted right down into the stand. Clearly this a design flaw on an otherwise very well made grill. I love mine so much, that I've recommended them to all of my friends.
Definitely a design fault. A grill should not just melt. Weber did send me replacement plastic parts and a brand new bottom bowel. The grill and the parts still in theirs boxes are sitting in my garage I have not found the energy to fix it. If you live in a metropolitan centre I believe Weber will send someone out to do it for you. However I live in a remote rural area and there are no service technicians within a few hours drive. I am planning to do another video on this, ie Weber’s response and me repairing my grill. 😎😎 let me know how you go with yours.
@@MikesManCave Hey Mike, thank you so much for the reply! I'm here in California so I will reach out to the Weber dealer and see if I can get replacement legs. The bowl didn't actually melt all the way through the front and back leg. In the interim, I'm going to try to heat the the metal post that connects to the leg with a torch. My thought is that if the plastic melted once it should melt again and I'll try a pry bar to lift the post out of the leg and hopefully be able to push the somewhat molten plastic back into shape . On the outside, there's no indication that the plastic is melted. It's just that the screw has worked its way down through the inner part of the leg. Have no idea this will work! But I'm willing to give it a go. I can't use the grill at all right now, because the bowl now sits far too close to the leg to use it without the risk of further melting. I'll let you know how it goes!
It says on the bbq unit not to use high heat for more than 20 minutes with the lid closed
Interesting, my BBQ says no such thing, that might be a new thing because they have been melting. Absolutely ridiculous that a BBQ melts

I didn't know this was a common issue. From my experience with Weber customer service they are pretty good. I will be interested with the outcome fingers crossed it's replaced.
I guess it's a reminder for me also to keep an eye on the cooking more closely no matter how clean the fire box is.
It's a concern, I love this BBQ I have had it for years and it gets used at least 3-4 times a week at the very minimum, each time I eat steak, chops, burgers etc etc it pretty much gets cooked on this. I will ring weber again today as I have not heard back yet.
I agree with being out of luck, been having a crap run, the stuff I put on CZcams is not even all of it It seems to be one thing after the other at the moment.
I will get there though, we just got to keep moving forward.

This exact same thing happened to my exact bbq..I love my bbq..same customer service call too.. I hope they replace mine. I didn't notice it at first, when I couldn't pull the grease tray out I looked a little closer and was WTF!!..

Sorry I commented earlier on the wrong video. I was having a hard time finding this one again. 1:45 into this video, there is clearly something your propane tank is sitting on. Did you make that or did you buy it from somewhere? I assumed you would know what I was talking about in my previous comment. My bad 😬
It’s sitting on the stand. That is how the bbq comes from the shop. It’s not bought or made. It’s how it comes when you buy it.

It’s nice to see they have those options but disappointing to know you guys get all the cool stuff! 😂 great set up through! Wish me luck! Strange that they sell different stuff in different countries. I would think the BBQ’s would be the same everywhere. They stopped selling the rotisserie here for a while and they have now brought it back.
Any news from Weber? I just got quoted $356 for a new firebox and cradle. Thats for a Weber Q though. I don't need a need firebox, just the cradle. Exact problem like yours!
They said they will send replacement the parts, still waiting at this stage. Unless your Weber is obver 10 years old it should be under warranty.
Mine caught on fire two days ago. Melted the handles and I think it looks farked. The enamel is peeled. I think it's a chucker
Call Weber. They should fix it or send you the parts. Check out my other video for the repair of this bbq. It’s back in use now. I still think that a bbq should not be melting. 🤔🤔

@@MikesManCave totally agree, but it did. I was lucky. We had an old doona cover sheet handy and I completely wet that and threw it over the Q to extinguish it. It was getting crazy hot and out of control.

did you fall a sleep while you were bbq the pork butt you suppose to watch while you grill so it dont get fire everywhere
You can watch it all you like once it burns it burns no matter if you are watching or not, your eyes looking at it make absolutely no difference to the outcome. You may notice there is a lid, unless you have X-ray vision you can't see what's going on inside.

So do I, they are not cheap. And I use it all the time, so feeing a bit lost without it for cooking dinners.
Wow. That is unfortunate. That thing is so small, is it even worth making your own custom grill station with it? I have an old Charbroil that would fit 2 of those, that I have started measuring for a custom station.
Not sure what you mean by making a custom grill station. This is just my every day BBQ that I have been using for the past three years to cook dinner, lunch or breakfast. There is no need for it to be bigger, I have cooked for up to 8 people on it without a problem, bigger is just a waste of gas for something that is used to grill a steak or a few burgers on a daily basis.
@@MikesManCave you just weld a steel frame together and cover it with wood, or if there is enough space in your patio build a brick counter-space with a hole for the grill.
As far as the size, I was just referring to what I had available to build around. Meant nothing by it.
@@RossPotts I get what you are saying now, I just want a warranty replacement. I will wait and see what happens, I might do something with the melted one in the future. I have about 5 BBQ's and two smokers. but this is the only gas one and it is for daily use. it's the perfect size for that job. Hopefully they will rep[lace it as they should.
Mike's Man Cave agreed. Warranties are always better. Too bad they made it with a plastic frame to begin with...
@@RossPotts I've had a Q220 for over 10 years. Clean it throughout probably once a year at most. Use is twice weekly for a family of 4. Never had any melt-down issues or problems with flare-ups or melting into the trolley.
I pimped up the Q220 with awesome steel shelves I found KAON created specifically for this model. Wonderful to have strong shelves either side - the dog jumped up and broke one a year or two ago.
I've just this week upgraded to a Q300, which I picked up 2nd hand for AUS$100 (bargain of the year imo), and am looking forward to using it. It needed a huge clean as the previous owner 'lost' the lid and just used it as an open BBQ - so picked up a new lid for $75 c/- Gumtree, and ready to go!
Only problem with base Q300 is no temp gauge in the hood - so I'm following youtube directions and drilling one into it shortly.
Should of got a weber kettle. You must of got the Weber Q really really REALLY hot.
I have four Weber kettles. Only one Weber Q.
