  • Do you get a stiff lower back from kettlebell swings or middle back pain after kettlebell swings? There is no need, the kettlebell is not the problem. This video can help you fix it. Some people think that kettlebell swing back pain is from the exercise itself, this is not true, the exercise itself, when done correctly, is actually really good to help prevent lower back pain.

    Hey Taco, great video. 2 months back I picked up lower back pain, muscle spasm on right hip & flexor. Then rested and all so pain settled down. Few weeks back i started with some bodyweight pushups, squats and dips guess what pain came back. Now rested again for good 2 weeks and pain seems to settle down. What would be your suggestions to recover best plus what would be the great way to start Kettlebells training again? I have Kettlebells 12kgs x 2, 1 Kettlebell of 16kgs & 2 of 10kgs plates.
    I was doing swings with 12 x 2 when i picked up the pain 🤦🏻‍♂️ FYI I do have PT & he is the one who introduced me with Bells back in December. I was enjoying for good 2 months until picked up this back problem

    • @Cavemantraining
      @Cavemantraining  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Maulik, hard to give advice when not seeing anything. Without seeing anything and you saying you got the pain back again with bodyweight work sounds to me like you're not engaging your abs, not creating a strong structure around the spine, not using your gluteals, etc. It could be tight hammies. But again, this is just from reading your comments. One should really see form and technique in action.
      A good way to start is slow. You need to fix the cause before progressing. So, hard to say. The safest thing would be no explosive work. Deadlifts with a squat movement. Assisted clean and upper body work. Or even sticking to bodyweight and working on strength and flexibility.

    Do you keep your elbows slightly bent when you're doing the swings? Keeping the kettlebell close to you is good right? Thank you so much for this video, very helpful

    • @Cavemantraining
      @Cavemantraining  Před 4 lety +1

      My elbow can be slightly bent, it all depends on where the kb is/goes, if I really direct it away from me then the arm will be straight. In the end you want to make sure there is not tension on the elbow flexors, so as long as the kb is not going away from me then I can keep the elbow soft. It's not an active bent, it's created by active lats acting on the upper arm and the elbow being soft while the kb travels up.

      What about the kettlebell Romanian deadlift instead of the swing? RDL movements are not so explosive and there are more delineated "start" and "end" positions. As well, I can do it with slow accentuated movement (which I can't in swings). What do you think of it?
