I suppose this might be one way to get kids interested in retrogaming, especially if Mom or Dad were to play the games they loved as a kid with their kids. I know my daughter and I bonded over classic rock tunes of the 1970s and 1980s when she played Guitar Hero in the basement while I ironed her dad's dress shirts on Sunday nights while she was in high school!
I just bought one for my sons for Christmas! I got mine 25 years ago for Christmas! Back then it was a new gen console, because we hadn't even heard of it yet! We had been asking for an NES. We loved our SEGA, in fact my brother still has it.
In all honesty I preferred the sega over Nintendo. T2, golden axe, double dragon, NBA jam. I felt that my favourite games was always better on the mega drive/genesis.
P.S... ignore the part of the video when I say the Genesis use to have shoulder buttons. That was a mistake.. 🍻✌🏽 Big shout out to everybody that caught that 👍🏽👍🏽

I love that the console is not heavy. I have one myself. The games are just as the original. The original genesis controls didn't have the top button. The latter model did.
The Sega Saturn had shoulder buttons but the Genesis never did. Also the console is so light because technology has come so far that the possessor and all that in the original Genesis can be duplicated now with something 1 tenth the size. Why make it more heavy than it needs to be. I encourage you to play some of those games you never herd of before. Try playing Comic Zone, it is great!!
The graphics look exactly the way I remember from back in the day. I don't mind it. Lol I think most people are just used to the new games, where it's like watching a HD movie.

I bought the one that had the Streets of Rage series. Mine came with two worthless wireless controllers. You literally have to be three feet in front of the console with the controller pointed directly at it at almost the same level. Too high or too low and it won't work. So I bought a nice aftermarket controller with a six foot cord. Some of the other flaws with the system are the sound, 40 useless games(not original Genesis games), and the fact that it doesn't play all cartridges. I couldn't get Super Street Fighter 2 to work and NBA Jam T.E. which are two of my favorite games. However, I did get a few other cartridges to work. You basically get what you pay for. I would suggest an original Genesis with original controllers. You can pick up these multicarts with over 100 games on eBay that will work better or invest in a better emulator system. I modded a Wii and have just about every old school console on it with every game made, even N64.

Not bad. For under $50 why not? Never had a Sega back in the day, but met friends did and I remember many nights with pizza and beer on Sega. Though I grew up riding my bike or bus 20 miles to the next town that had an arcade Pong. So I’ve seen them from the beginning and these retro games takes me back to different times. Who knows, maybe the kids will like some of them as well.

A couple or a few possible explanations for the light feel of the controllers and console; 1. the last time you played it was probably about 20+ years ago and were still hadn't gotten taller (I had the same thing happen when I picked up an old nes controller a decade after last seeing one) . 2. circuitry has gotten smaller over the years and less physical material is needed for the hardware. Probably already mentioned in the comments and I'm over a year late but hope it 's a good answer for you.
I just bought this same one at my family dollar. And for 40 bucks, it's a heck of a deal. But, the only thing I will say that is wrong with it is that the sound on the games is a little off, and some of the games crash while playing. And not all Genesis cartridges work( but, they do say that in the instructions). This is a great buy though!
ProWrestling&PokemonFan 486, I would suggest not buying it for this system, being that it has a nasty "crashing" habit when inserting any cartridge.(just my experience from using my Genesis games in it. But, it may be that my games were dirty or the cartridges are degrading.) my luck so far with cartridges are 50/50 with it. As for umk3 itself, I don't have that game for Genesis, so that particular game I don't know if it will work. I will say this though, the older the Genesis game, the better the chance it works, if this helps you.
Yes I added this to my family room collection, sega mini classic,snes mini classic, and nes mini classic. I love all 3 units!! My kids love playing also!,I had to re-live my childhood 😂. The sega is cool fun to play on chill days! and yes your daughter will love that!!!

you need to change the button configuration to 6 buttons so you can block,do h and l punch and kicks, also fatalties are much easier on mk2. from the start screen go to options and select button configuration . the game controller is actually a pretty good copy of the sega saturn.
My children think it's fun to play. As adults we forget what it's like to look through children's eyes. I bought one at bed bath and beyond in canada and the kids love it. Money well spent.

I own the Plug and Play Sega Genesis by At Games since November 2012 I got it from Family Dollar in Rialto, California During a Roadtrip on Thanksgiving Break 2012 I was 14 and a Freshman in High School and I was happy that I got a Plug and Play Sega Genesis that has a Real Cartoon Slot and 2 Controller Ports because no that I own the Original Sega Genesis (Model 1) and Gaming I can play them on the Plug and Play Sega Genesis anytime I want and have a good time it's Great to own one of these because you can play Real Genesis Cartridges
Your right the built in games are not bad at all . The problem I have with this though is it wouldn't play my super street fighter 2 and my NHL 96 . They play on my original sega but for some reason it won't play bigger meg cartridges.

Yeah, there are some obvious problems with this thing like the sound, but I have had fun with it. I played these games years ago so I know what they're supposed to sound like, but it really doesn't bother me. AT Games is notorious for crappy systems. The new Genesis mini is not an AT Games system, so it's probably better. It's on sale on Amazon for $39.99 right now. I just ordered one recently.

Mine got to dusty, and screwed up. I also have one of the old blue Genesis 1 in all consoles. It came with an SD slot, so you can add additional games. But the system sometimes could not read the games properly . That's why I bought this latest one.
Not bad. Having played it myself, the only complaint is the sound, clearly was not built for the sound aspect considering half the games are crappy Ripoffs, despite the minor gameplay flaws in some games, it runs well. Atgames should make an edition with fully rendered games, no crap games, theres enough on Genesis as too date.
You will have to look up the movement for Mortal Kombat again. Lol But does not look that bad. Just bought one but waiting on a RCA Jack splitter to come in so I can play it. Got plenty of HDMI spots on TV, but only one set of RCA Jack's.

IKR, It's funny how the gaming community went into a hyperbolic, collective meltdown over this before understanding and accepting what At Games market position was. It was and still is an interesting psychological characteristic of online communities and their engagement with each other and reality. The whole situation should be getting picked up as a case study by some PhD professor's lecture or psychology student's thesis somewhere as a modern example of parrot fashion hysteria overthrowing common sense, reason and logic. It's a pretty good plug and play device for the money.
The genesis 3 or 6 button controllers never had shoulder buttons. It looks decent. It has a cartridge slot so I wonder if it's real hardware or if it's emulated. Sonic's music and sound's pitch was low for some dumb reason. I wonder what the developer of this system uses as the ROM, if it's the the PAL version or NTSC.
Well the 6 button controller had the mode button on the top right; I think it was only used for games that didn't work well with the 6 button controller, but it is a shoulder button I guess.
They did this with the NES Classic Edition too. Made it smaller and programmed a bunch of games in it. Do you have Beavis And Butthead and Ren And Stimpy games on it? My brother used to have one of these.

Mine got to dusty, and screwed up. I also have one of the old blue Genesis 1 in all consoles. It came with an SD slot, so you can add additional games. But the system sometimes could not read the games properly . That's why I bought this latest one.

Found mine at Wal-Mart for $44 Dollars. I'm expecting some of that old school sound in the games I'm playing!

Not bad. Having played it myself, the only complaint is the sound, clearly was not built for the sound aspect considering half the games are crappy Ripoffs, despite the minor gameplay flaws in some games, it runs well. Atgames should make an edition with fully rendered games, no crap games, theres enough on Genesis as too date.

IKR, It's funny how the gaming community went into a hyperbolic, collective meltdown over this before understanding and accepting what At Games market position was.
It was and still is an interesting psychological characteristic of online communities and their engagement with each other and reality. The whole situation should be getting picked up as a case study by some PhD professor's lecture or psychology student's thesis somewhere as a modern example of parrot fashion hysteria overthrowing common sense, reason and logic.
It's a pretty good plug and play device for the money.
the game I put was "Streets of Rage 3 Sonic Hack". The Sega never even stayed on and it started to smell fried up the ass. Feeling bummed out.

for those 8 decent games on that list and the controllers that's a deal (if there's no lag)

The genesis 3 or 6 button controllers never had shoulder buttons. It looks decent. It has a cartridge slot so I wonder if it's real hardware or if it's emulated. Sonic's music and sound's pitch was low for some dumb reason. I wonder what the developer of this system uses as the ROM, if it's the the PAL version or NTSC.
Well the 6 button controller had the mode button on the top right; I think it was only used for games that didn't work well with the 6 button controller, but it is a shoulder button I guess.

They did this with the NES Classic Edition too. Made it smaller and programmed a bunch of games in it. Do you have Beavis And Butthead and Ren And Stimpy games on it? My brother used to have one of these.
In México they're charging 100 bucks for it I was like "2000 pesos for a piece of shit?! No way" 40 bucks it's a much better deal man.
