    Typar only requires cap nails/staples every 32", this is due to the 33 lbs from the fiber weave. If you staple it, you void the warranty, which is substantially better than any other WRB including Zip, limited lifetime. Ie good install, and tapes and flashing vs 30 years.

    Ah, a new video to make my day.
    My one beef with zip sheathing is that its OSB instead of plywood. I hate OSB. LOL. I could be mistaken, but I think they used to make it with plywood but it was too expensive so they must have stopped.
    Staples can be good. I used stainless steel staples going in to cement board to put up some plastic trim that got mudded over.
    One of the challenges of working with the house wrap- other than the wind-- is if you have pets. Anytime I need to stretch something out like that outside, the cats, dogs, and cows want to come see what I'm doing. Cats and dogs will sit on things. Cows will lick things and sometimes the one with horns will poke things with her horns. At least I don't have goats anymore. They would eat the house wrap. LOL.
    I know you've done siding videos before but I hope you do one for this shed.

If I could get it at the "youtuber sponsored" cost I would use it but for a cheap building to stick your lawn chairs in, nothing wrong with this setup.

    in hot climates you put the vapor barrier on the exterior, in cold climates you put in on the interior. problem is four season climates that is the majority of the western world. According to the local building code you need to invert your wall 4 months of the year, (or open the windows). Modern construction is a seal tight, then they add heat for January and Air Con for July.

    #1 that's not butyl tape. #2 Exterior tuck tape is red. The blue tuck tape is used for vapor barrier inside. It has a different adhesive compared to the red tuck tape and I'm not sure it can handle the exterior, but it might. House-wrap was made to block air infiltration, not water. Back when they thought it was better to install expensive heat-exchangers and extensive air ventilation systems sold by HVAC shops, and marked up by contractors, instead of just having a few micro-cracks here and there to let in fresh air. Small amounts of moisture can slowly dissipate out through that membrane.
    But true vapor barrier is on the inside where warm humid air accumulates from cooking potatoes etc. Any residual trapped moisture in wall insulation dries to the cold dry outside air. And liquid water (rain) repellent is on the outside; usually [back to] tar-paper now. That repels water, blocks direct air flow, and slowly dries to the outside too. Housewrap is at best superfluous and unnecessarily expensive. Zip sheathing is useless unless in humid flyovers like southern ontario and the gulf coast, because it blocks moisture in the wrong direction.

    • @phamlam3720
      @phamlam3720 Před 5 měsíci

      A shed could be drafty but a house shouldn’t. We want to control our home environment.

      I couldn't understand the purpose of that wrap . What kind of wind did they try to stop when they put OSB otside walls which is almost vapor impermeable . Only not long ago I learned that the wrap around a house protect OSB from water

    • @armslength2618
      @armslength2618 Před 5 měsíci

      @@andreycham4797 Tract housing slapped together as fast as possible will leave substantial gaps in the weather envelope. Easier to tie a big bag around it all at the end than take 'too much' time to construct a building. It's not about air getting through solid wood or press-glued chips.
      It was really driven by the narrative of the 'hermetically sealed' crowd, that believed sealing everything up tight as a sardine can would prevent loss of a few calories of heat. Of course, to the immense profit of HVAC equipment manufacturers, vendors, and installers. And the makers of tyvek.
      Chip board is horrible stuff, and will warp and disintegrate quickly in the weather. Temporarily covering it with anything at all is probably better than nothing. But tar paper and siding is a proper permanent solution. Alternates exist of course, such as the outer wythe of a reinforced/pre-stressed concrete sandwich panel. Or solid wood treated with various forms of varnish, etc.

Pay that for 4 or maybe 6 years and you can get a degree in gender studies, critical theory on several topics or translating ancient Greek. In 4 years you will be able to officially enter the class of people we call elites. In 6 years you will be a card carrying super elite. What your son is learning from his dad will last a lifetime, provide a good living for him and his family down the road, is transferable to practically any location in the world and is immune (unlike the useless Harvard degrees) from displacement by AI. And I would bet a steak dinner his tuition is less than $80K. The world will always need people who know how to build and fix things.
