Just got one in swift blue, good guitars sharp fretts on the top 5 fretts
I am turning 70. This is on my gift list.
Do it! Many Happy Returns
Me to this month. Happy birthday.
Congratulations. I have one of the original Revstar 502T models, a great guitar
Happy Birthday! I think you deserve it and enjoy the Revstar!
I’m 72 and just ordered this and a Yamaha bass both are great
Great review! Absolutely LOVE John’s guitar playing!!
Have not heard a review were these guitars that didn’t sound great yet. Yamaha has come out with a winner of a line with this one.
my fave demo EVER !!! ...I watched a few times - then placed my order with my Sweetwater rep for this exact one !!! ...beautiful stuff JB !!! ....
Just as the edible kicks in, I find John demoing a new guitar. What a great Tuesday!
(:
Love watching your videos, John! Great stuff!
Always been a big fan of Yamaha my first guitar in the eighties was a Yamaha. The first time I ever saw the rev star shape I've been wanting one especially since I fall in love with P90s
I love my Revstar Rusty Rat RSP20CR! Your first review is one of the reasons I bought it. Thanks!
Another great PG review John. Whenever I see you reach into your pocket for the slide I just turn up the volume and enjoy. Chris Buck is a another great player, too. Have to check out the Revstar.
Awesome review! John is always on point. Now I want one!
Always enjoy your vids and playing
Great review, nice guitar. Love the tone variation and colour scheme.
Great full review too. Thank you
Wow! Love the tone!
Beautiful intro. Gorgeous tone and touch.
Great review!
Great playing and review! I just got the same model Revstar this week and I can't believe just how good it is for the money!
How much for this model ?? Great LP alternative I have an old 80's law suit LP model and have yet to find a Gibson that is better with out spending 4 - 5K....I have a 2500 dollar Gibson that is really isn't much better considering the law suit LP is a custom with triple binding and "Tree of Life" inlay on the fret board with a nice dark walnut top with the aged cream binding Special guitar that just plays fantastic 😍
Great review. Great tone.
This video is all the inspiration I need, so thanks. I am going to pull the trigger on one of these, like tomorrow morning!
Nice review JB, sweet guitar
Wow unreal playing John!
this is one of the first guitars iv seen in a while that I actually want.
Beautiful guitar 🎸
Super demo--as expected! Seems to be a guitar that's doing something a bit different without being outrageous. I like Yamaha as a company---everything from pianos to motor bikes! But whatever they make it's always good quality. I wasn't sure about this particular finish at first but it's growing on me. I would call it sunrise rather than sunburst.
She’s a beauty of a finish.
Great song pick on the opening demo. Sounds great!
Johnny B, in all honesty, I think this is the best review I’ve ever seen anyone do on a guitar, especially a guitar sounding as unique as this one does. This guitar sounds a lot better than I thought it would. I’m going to look into it to see what the cost is.
Wow, it’s only $800! 😳
"The best review I've ever seen anyone do on a guitar"? You don't watch many reviews do you?
@@lewisbeeman his comment seems like weeb ness
John Bohlinger busting out incredible riffs with nice accents and atmosphere again. I like the shredding and your slide-style bud!
Thank you, you are too kind.
beautiful guitar
That guitar sound incredible! Reminds me of the beautiful tone Mark Knopfler sometime recorded.
John...great playing and great tone.
Yes, Chris Buck and his great tone, touch could sell a million of these. Yamaha gives great value for the money.
Great playing as always John!
Chris Buck is paid by Yamaha, it’s not an independent review. He could play a £100.00 Squire and it would sound good.
Beautiful and so delicate!
Great guitar, reviewed by a rock star in style! Love it🎸🤘🎸
I liked this guitar so much I bought the company. Well, I just bought the RSS02T and an RSE20. Cool stuff!
Appreciate the slide demo at 7:05!
Wonderful into and review
The push-pull switch is boost power 6dB (it has no battery) power comes by cable from amp.
Yamaha nailed it. A star is born.
This guitar... what a beauty...
Your rendition of While My Guitar Gently Weeps was beautiful... I really wish you'd gone into the chorus though. I've never owned a guitar with P90s so I've been poking around trying to make my mind up what I want... I may have to go with the Revstar. It looks and sounds so unique.
Love this review and this sound. Wow!! John what amp did you plug into for this video?
That is one sweet guitar.
I’ve got one on the way. Very cool that you played pickless and with slide .. to great effect!! 👍
Simple and beautiful
Some of your sweetest playing ever.
Got this exact guitar a few days ago. Luckily I only had to wait two weeks from placing an order in the UK. I love it. Highly recommended!
Hello, this is my dream guitar. How do you like it?
Maaaaan, this is your best review vid EVER! Great playing, great AUDIO and damn I want this guitar.....maybe I have to switch the pus (I'm a Duncan guy since 16 yo)...but who knows
Yamaha nailed it with the new Revstar series.
They nailed it with the first generation as well but this is a legitimate advance.
@@davidharding200 The Pro is right up there with my Gibson’s, Fenders, and the one PRS that I have.
If I had to get rid of all but one, I would be totally happy with the Revstar.
@@pinkiewerewolf It doesn’t need to be the Pro. The Standard has enough to take on just about anything, and the Indonesian model surpasses the us made Gibsons in build quality by a mile.
@@davidharding200 I e seen the reviews of the Standard and base models but I’ve never seen one in person yet.
I have three Gibson’s, each was perfect when I bought them.
The Revstar is perfect as well and those pickups sound awesome.
Chris Buck has become on of my favorite blues/rock guitarists around. His musicality (buzzword!) is off the charts. I love his sound. I love your sound. Get together and make some sounds together =)
Hey John, really dug your story on looking at the Big Picture, one of your best!
Love the way he grabbed the phantom whammy or bigsby bar
I think it is the guitarist who makes sound a guitar and not the opposite ❤❤
Great one ❤❤
Interesting watching his playing style change with each pickup selection. It’s funny how a particular tone can make you play a certain way. I think this is worth buying just to get those slide tones!
Another great review by John as usual. Had my eye on these since I first saw Chris Buck playing his Custom Shop Goldtop. I think this may be my Father's day gift to me from me.
John`s demo on this Revstar is excellent.
Who hasn't wanted one after watching Buck play one. 👍
John's playing is why I'm here, but indeed nice guitar too.
I’ve been craving a P90 guitar for quite awhile now; looks like this one should be at, or near, the top of the list. Thanks, John
Dude, BUY IT!!! Mine came 3 weeks ago finally and it’s the most playable guitar I’ve ever touched…I have a Gold top LP with P-90s that I absolutely adore, and the Rev Star crushes it…the neck is unreal…best neck out of the 11 guitars I own by far. It’s fast, but has some girth to it…a fat neck imo gives the guitar a better tone…all the really great founding guitars I’ve ever played all had a medium or fat neck…I think I’m just really use to them…whenever I pick up one of my brothers guitars they feel almost like toys because of the super thin necks…he’s got a few Jackson’s, Ibanez RG, and some Schecter stuff…the Schecters really impress me every I play them…he’s got a black T style Schecter that is absolutely awesome
I just got mine yesterday, and it's gorgeous. The P90s are crisp, clear, and bright with a wonderful OD growl on tap.
Dude, that WMGGW's thing was really good, haven't heard that before. Great sounding guitar. Love some of the japanese guitars, thanks for the review.
What’s WMGGW’s ?
@@benallmark9671 sorry...while my guitar gently weeps
That intro tune sounded eerily like a Rutles tune.
That sounds great! I've been looking for something with P90's to play this summer! The colors are a little strange, but we can fix that. LOL --gary
While my guitar gently weeps….very nice Mr. B….👍
Excellent guitar player !
I was so impressed with this line of guitars that I recently bought a Yamaha SG 1802.
How great is it?
@@zeusapollo8688 Yamaha SG's will go head to head with a Gibson Les Paul all day long
I think trogly should get one and prove it
That’s what I’m looking at right now. One of those or a 594.
These look great though!
That's a much better guitar than the one in this video.
Best guitar going today
Great video! Could I install Seymour Duncan antiquity P90s while still getting that EQ boost from the S1 switch?
John yer playing is always great but its your honesty I'm looking for. A. How much better is the standard over the past model? B. Is the Professional worth over twice as much? Thanks either way.
That is one badass guitar. Does more than a Les Paul it seems.
Sweet axe, P90s are the best - I put a set in an Ibanez AS73 and it made it really shine! Nice shirt, that shade of blue is lovely. I like the instrumental version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" - any idea where we could find a tab?
Cool shirt, John!
John Definitely did a great job managing the hum from those P-90s
They seem to be noise canceling P-90s, because I don't hear any 60 cycle hum, regardless of what position he's on
@@michaelbalance98 keep watching other reviews you will hear the hum
Never understood why people get so uppity bout hum from singles lol. I've literally only ever bought and gigged single coils, until this year (Ibanez JS200 popped my non-Fender cherry) and I've never had a problem with it. If I'm running decent gain, or anything like that, I'll pop my noise gate on the pedal board and just kill signal when all is quiet lol. Not an expensive fix either...I made my noise gate pedal myself lmao
@@nickdrey1200 I hate it because i have horrendous tinnitus.
Element and Standard variants also available left-handed in two colours (Blue and Black) although with Humbucker pickups only.
I just picked one up In swift blue. The build quality is excellent and you could easily confuse it for an American or Japanese made guitar with how good it feels.
Every Indonesian built guitar I've ever played my pinky finger falls off the fretboard kind of a weird thing but I wanted to ask if that happens to you on this guitar as well cause it's made in Indonesia I think and I'm thinking of getting one yet there's nowhere to try one before I buy it. Anyway weird question I know but I'm just trying to get info on this guitar.
@@srh361 hmm, interesting. I don’t experience that with this guitar at all
@@srh361 The pro models are made in China
@@joro7656 Maybe but the guitar in this video is made in Indonesia.
@@joro7656 Japan
Sounds real transparent…with chambered body….lightweight…p90 type pickups..nice.
I see very few youtubers mention the bigger body but none mention how the new bigger body feels good/bad too big ect. So how does the new body feel and does it cause any issues?
Super into these guitars. Cant decide between the blue and wine colored one
Get both of them
Great video and seriously interested in this guitar. I think the audio is clipping at some parts though.
Yamaha are underrated as a guitar maker.
WOW your a really good player. And that Revstar sounds phenomenal. Is the carbon neck more stable? Yeah, I need to satin finish the necks on my PRS's. The gloss finish can be sticky.
The stock pickups sound great! Of course, Mr. Bohlinger makes most pickups sound pretty good. Are current Revstar owners enjoying the in-house pickups that come with this guitar?
Given the wrong environment, they can generate more 60-cycle hum than you'd think possible!
Consider yourself warned.
@@voiceofexperience lol go home
So much! No need to change a thing on these. I have a first generation 720B and the second second standard (same as this but with humbuckers). No need to change the stock pickups. But with the HBs I did have to slightly adjust pickup height and now they sound out of this world.
LOVE THAT OPENING RIFF John!!!!! is that something you wrote previous or were you riffing? ,STUCK IN MY HEAD, so i looped it to play lead over..... Keep up the great work!!! Hello from Minot ND.
while my guitar gently weeps?
I think George Harrison wrote it!
@@lukeward5445 YEP! THATS IT!!!! thanks Man!
I agree, LOVE John’s playing!
Played one of these today - neck profile and feel is stellar! Great tones and weight balance as well, fantastic value for money
Sounds wonderful, fantastic playing. Yamaha seems to have really killed it with this one.
How do the strings anchor down at the tailpiece? To restring it do you have to feed the strings through the far end of the tailpiece near the edge of the body? That would seem kind of a pain. Their humbucker version with standard tailpiece obviously doesn't have any issues like this.
I've got one of the original series with the same tailpiece. The strings anchor underneath at the end nearest to the bridge so they only travel about the same distance as a normal set-up you have on a Les Paul.
@@davidmurphy4844 do you need to take the tail piece off or do they lodge in there underneath ?
@@benallmark9671 you don't need to remove the tail piece. The ball ends are held underneath the tail piece in slots. Changing strings is not a problem.
Great demo of a cool traditional type guitar but w twists Good LP alternative IMO....hope you do a demo of the new Boss SE2....pedal version of the Roland Space Echo
I’m still deciding wether I should get the Humbucker or the p90s one
Listen Young Matteo Mancuso with Yamaha. He is just over 20 pure virtuoso. A born talent.
What are the jumbo frets like? Are they much taller than medium jumbos? I hope so, as I love big frets.
Just wow. Yamaha has been making some extremely lovely guitars for a few years now. Fender had better watch themselves!
Yamaha BB basses are rock solid basses and you don't need to sell a kidney to buy one.
Especially Gibson! This guitar is only 800 bucks.
Yamaha makes pretty damn good affordable stuff in all aspects. They used to have a really decent amp line based "somewhat" off soldanos design (t50, t100 which they later changed it to cut costs, early ones are great though. The changed ones I believe have a C added so t100c instead of t100). I use their home theater products also. I have had a receiver for years now that still kicks but.
I really like the products Ive tried from them.. dirt bikes aren't too bad either.
The Goldtop not available in the USA?
I got a revstar solely because of Chris buck
If I hadn't recently purchased a Gibson Les Paul Standard 50's P90 (which is amazing) I'd consider one of these. Maybe I'll get one and drop some mini humbuckers in it.
Gotta dig the Sister Rosetta Tharpe poster. People need to know who she was!
I bought a prs se custom 24 08 but i didn’t know i could get carbon rod reinforced neck and stainless steel fret for even lower price. Did i make a mistake. Sure i like my guitar but the frets have already started wearing off and I’m not a big fan of the pickups either.
"While my Revstar Gently Weeps" - nice one !
John is da man
Damm! , Bolger you yourself are an awesome established guitar player # and knowbodyknows!”, always tastefull things to present the guitar product ! John do you have ,albums or music you perform? You should let the peoples know !
watch n weep Gibson
Damn - a sideways sunburst was a little idea I've been keeping in my back pocket for decades. Figured I would get my chance someday to do something different... too late now!
I think it's a sunrise finish. Either way, looks cool!
Don't ya just hate that? :)
I like the look of these 😁
thanks! So, last question: what´s the difference between "standard" vs. "professionell (Japanese)"? Worth the price difference? Thanks for any advice! Greetings and thanks to everyone!
When I use p90s at home, there is so much noise. I didn’t hear any noise from these. I’m scared to get another p90 guitar because of the noise, but the sound is so sweet
