Chris Buck is easily one of the best soloists Ive ever seen
"The Who - Live At Leeds" is what got me into P90s.
And The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret.
They bought my 72 HiWatt alive.
That backslap echo off the far wall on Magic Bus had me since Day One. Amazing!
Yup. Pete's 90s. 😄
Leslie West blew my mind too, I heard these huge sounds and then here's this itty-bitty LP Jr single P90 dwarfed by a giant of a man the poor wee thing just screamin'. It was very clear that the Junior was completely up to the task.
And then dear Danny Kirwin's P90 Gold Top in his lovin' hands.
Man we're so lucky.
@@Riverdeepnwide I'm a big Leslie West fan. I was just starting to play when Mississippi Queen came out!
I’ve seen lots of superb guitarists on Norm’s videos, but Chris is absolutely up there in the best performances 🤘🏻
No doubt!
Gotta get the other otherworldly guitarist .. Mr Lemmo and Chris to work together... ohhh yes
You are all human worshippers. Help them if you can Chris.
This guys sound not only comes from his fingers, he doesn't use nails. It is strictly the tips of his fingers flesh that roll off the strings giving him that unheard of beautiful tone. As a fingerstyle guitarist myself for 50 years, I have struggled to get this tone because even though I keep my nails short, the string comes off my nails making it brighter. There are no words to describe Chris Buck's talent!
I'd have to say Chris I'm 55 years old and I'm just learning how to play because I ditched it when I was 18 I don't want to be a quitter so I'm starting back up and it's very hard and you make it look beautiful brother I don't know if it's the p90s or if it's you you are awesome thank you.
Yh, it's him....
I think it's both.
Did you quit again? 😁
We are so fortunate to have you making these videos for us. Great, entertaining, and educational content with killer licks.
Thanks.
Revstars are incredible, I have a dark green one with P90s and it just sings! It's so comfortable to play and reacts well to any amp
P90’s are my favorite pickup. They’re raspy, yet delicate. They’re rubbery, yet the clarity is unparalleled. They’re so versatile.
2000: I want to play like Stevie Ray Vaughan
2010: I want to play like Mark Knopfler
2020: I want to play like Chris Buck
You know what, there's some left hand stuff going on there in CB's that is truly mega! Being a geezer I might just add Carlos Rios or Larry Carlton to the list.
Like for the Mark Knopfler mention
...Ian Thornly should be here somewhere...
SRV was just getting started
Same with Hendrix
These new guys are already off pace…
@@badgrammar8989 Yes indeed and Ian Thornley has a great set of pipes to go along with amazing playing.
I read a lot of comments of people converted to P90, but don't forget that it is Chris who's playing, and whatever the guitar he's playing on, it always sound magic ! And in addition to his skills, the amp is also so important ...
When I saw the thumbnail, I thought this was a Five Watt World video lol
Exactly! When Chris came up I was like "wtf is he doing here?" hahahahaha
Lol same
As a home player, I find that P90s just kill it. Such bite and tone, and very little noise (due to lower volumes and relatively clean home power). P90s can give you "that" tone without the need to crank things. If you've not tried a P90 guitar, try the Indonesian-made Revstars. They're amazingly flexible, and the P90s are pedal-friendly.
That opening playing was just gorgeous thanks Chris 👏
Wow! Anyone else totally mesmerized by Chris' right hand work in this vid. He is one exceptional guitarist. Thanks Chris for sharing. Big thumbs up from Canada.
Totally!
Fantastic video. Still blows me away how good that 55' Goldtop sounds. Really big sound but crystal clear.
Another brilliant Friday Fretworks, Chris; sublime playing, as ever, and great content.
Oh man, that intro jam! Your playing's off the hook 😍
Dude that solo on the Goldtop LP was superb. All of them, but I really liked that one.
I’ll double dip in the comments to say that I thoroughly enjoy this channel. The angle of the shot of your playing is spectacular.
I cannot get the smile off my face as I watch and listen to your playing... thank you Sir!
This may be my favorite episode yet of my favorite guitar digest - you and the P 90 make a very good pair!
Couldn’t agree more with your comments on the P90s! And that 1955 Les Paul gives me goosebumps...😃 Your playing makes it really shine, thank you for that 👍
LOVE that Norm's clip. It's where I discovered you first!
Nevermind the pickups, I’d be happy if I could play with 25% of Chris’s ability.
I'd take 2%, TBH.
Amen.
@Piano But YES, a piano WOULD say that! ;oP
So say we all!
You are truely one of the very best on CZcams. If not the best. Well done Chris
I’ve played for about 10 years, and only found “my sound” once I picked up a P90 shod PRS. Have three P90 guitars now and always enjoy the tones out of them. True Magic
I fell in love with P90s the very first time I played a guitar that was equipped with them. The things that pickup can do are both heavenly and ungodly. It can play the sweetest, smoothest jazz or the nastiest, raunchiest rock and roll. It's the perfect pickup for me.
oh my.. i love humbucker but accidentally i acquired gibson classic with p90.. wow..
Great stuff Chris.More power to you.
'Chris Buck' sounds like a great name for a fashion brand that sells denim jackets. The tone oozes out of the sleeves! :)
You have no idea how many times I've replayed your Black Pumas Colours jam.
Such a great communicator...guitar and vocal!
My all time fav pickup, hands down, and has been since my Les Paul Jr i got as a teen 1968. Then next an SG rewired by Chip Todd himself. Rewound P90s that were the best I ever heard or played. Such character, bite and balls...
Absolutely informative and interesting. Thanks, I learned much today.
underrated channel, glad i stumbled upon it a while ago. such a great player. also those revstars look amazing, might actually consider getting one at some point.
Spot on!!! In everything Chris!! Just a matter of time and you will get bigger and bigger!!
I'm not lying if I say that I listened so much to your colours cover,, every single note is spot on and seems to tell a story! P 90's are the best middelground between humbucker and single coil but soul and commitment will take it to next level like you did!!
You inspired me to work with the Gamechanger Sustain pedal in combonation with a Arion Stereo Chorus and A Darellectro Echo played through a Strat and a Fender Machete and a Loop pedal,, posted that on my CZcams channel,,, but I have to thank you for the inspiration!!!! 🙏
This is directed at Chris, but certainly anyone is most welcome to chime in. Have you ever played the Yamaha RGX A2? It has a set of soapbar-sized mini humbuckers. They are lower in output, likely in the same range as P-90s. This guitar, and the equivalent bass, was Yamaha's experiment with making a lightweight, yet resonant body, which I feel they succeeded in doing. I enjoy playing it, but unfortunately haven't been able to compare it with other guitars.
Love the finger picking. So much feel. Absolutely amazing. Reminds me of another of my favorites...Jeff Beck, without the whammy. Thanks Chris. Love your technique. You surely inspire. Keep the videos coming.
In my early days of guitar playing I was astounded when I first played a P90. But it wasn't till recently that I started using them. I love them. There is nothing like a P90. The power of a humbucker and the snap and punch of a single coil.
Top shelf from start to finish! I love me some P90....
My P90 introduction in my 70s childhood was Freddy King's goldtop '55 Les Paul, Grant Green's ES-330 and George Thorogood's ES-125s among other blues, jazz and rock guitarists. I recently ordered a Bootstrap Screwdriver neck pickup to fatten up my Tele anticipating P90 territory for the first time and the experience will be so hellova and i know it!
His playing is just amazing wish you every success Chris your as good as I have seen in 50yrs of loving guitarists and I have had the best years listening and watching them but your well up there. Thanks
Very informative and I also enjoyed your playing.
Awesome tones and playing as always. Absolutely love my Pacifica 611vfm smooth and snarly Seymour Duncan P90 in the neck
Incredible playing! Incredible pickups!
Agreed. I'm playing the recent line Gibson L.P. Special And the P90's are sweet as a bee's nose.
Top playing Buckmaster
Great playing as per usual. I too am a P-90 convert.
Man, Buck and evans tracks are so so good but the rush i get listening to slow train is unparalleled. Cheers mate!!
Just recently got myself an Agile 2800DC. the fact that it had P-90's is what drew me to it. They really are unique in their combination of bite and clarity.
Really looking forward to the shootout vid!
Underated is the first word that comes to mind when I think about the Revstar! Awesome video !
Chris, you are an awesome guitar player! I am not getting tired of listening you playing! You make pure music that is touching my heart! You have a rare gift!
Wish your career all the best! You will be another John Mayer...!
Man, you playing is all sweet. But, your right-hand action is just amazing. Really emotional.
Yes, they are. My '54 Goldtop is the best guitar I've ever played, too.
Vintage P-90s do not carry the overblown price of vintage PAF Humbuckers (thank Zeus), but not because PAF's sound better, they don't. One reason for this insanity is that Clapron's Beano Burst had PAFS in it. Here's the ironic twist though, what he really wanted was a Goldtop with P-90s as he loved Freddie King's sound on that guitar. However, since that guitar was nowhere to be found across the pond in those days, he settled for a Burst with PAFS. On "Beano", his guitar tone on many tracks was EQed in the studio to emulate King's tone which is far more P-90-ish (more upper-mids and attenuated lower-mids), so Eric was satisfied, and so are we all.
Thanks for the good story behind that..!
Yes, I also love the P90, something big and rich about them, nice video Chris
I love P90's, I recently purchased a Epiphone Les Paul Special LTD in tv yellow(had to add that since that color is bad-ass) with bolt-on neck and the P90 pickups are so great. They really are able to express your playing so easily with incredible tone. Also great Zoolander reference..props for that!!!!
I bought mine at around the same time as your post, in TV-Yellow LTD... probably the exact same promotion. I'm very glad that I did..!
6:50 such unique and great playing, you certainly have your own style indeed
Awesome playing chris, enjoy listening to you play.
Every time, E V E R Y time, at some point during your playing I think "Man, that's class".
What a fantastic video! Now have a much better understanding of the P90 in my 611. Thank you.
I recently got myself a Gibson SG Classic for the P90's and I really love them. You are absolutely correct in that is has more balls than a single coil but very chimey. Great video!
Thanks for the video. You’re spot on and my experiences echo yours to the tee concerning the p90. A dear friends 55 junior with p90’s sealed the deal with me and I knew I needed them since then.
Also P90’s work so beautifully for your style. I used to think David Gilmour and Eric Johnson were the epitome of great lead tone that sounded very vocal like but you blow them away Chris. I always love to hear you play. It’s a treat.
Love your playing!
I think many guitar players get the AHA experience with p90`s. I had mine recently, been playing for 25 years, but never really cared for anything other than Buckers and regular singlecoils. I bought my first p90 guitar and was blown away!! Great stuff Chris! Cheers.
That's the kind of jammin' that needs to be heard, what ears are for
Well done Chris
Nice info and great time. Cheers
Very interesting. Looking forward to the P90 shootout video. Lovely playing as always Chris.
Stellar playing sir!!
some very nice playing. I like that you have your own, un-copied style. free flowing and very dynamic . . . great stuff, man :)
What a band. What a solo!
I've always loved the P90s. My first electric guitar was a 1959 Les Paul that had them. That was in 1964. Then in 1971 I got an Epiphone Casino, P90s again. I don't have either one anymore.
Clicked on the video because of the beautiful Yamaha in the thumbnail... stayed for the insanely tasteful licks :-)
Awesome video Chris! I sadly don't have a guitar with a P90 yet but it's in the plan to change out one of the pickups in one of my guitars in the near future.
I bought my Yamaha RS502 because of your recommendation and I absolutely love it 7 months on
I like your high notes and every bend up high sounds sooo gooood awesome style with the right pickups no doubt about that.
My first p-90's were in a 50's Les paul special, then a 59 lp junior dc. The best sounding guitars I ever had. Thank you for this video.
Just awesome playing Chris 👍
P 90's Rock ! Great playing and love the black pumas jam at the end.
You are such an amazing magical player!
Wonderful playing and tone
So good to see: the next generation is already born! :-) Chris Buck is THAT great!!!
Chris, thank you for showcasing the Goldtop LP using both pickups. So many YT channels ignore that setting completely and it’s really annoying. You put them all to shame by proving just how awesome they sound!
Never played a guitar with P90's but after watching this video Chris you've got me lusting after a set. Or at least checking out an axe with some fitted. Great video again by the way.
My favorite guitar I've ever played with P90's is the Friedman Vintage-T... Sounds soooo amazing!!
P90s are my favourite pickup. Jazzmaster neck pickup and P90 bridge pickup are my dream combination.
Curious, I ve never seen that type of set in a guitar. It´'d be quite unique sounding, and noisy as hell I recon hehe
Great playing there, Chris! Really tasty.
Lemmo is so wonderful to listen to, you’re on the level and pushing
I just got my guitar back from having the Tyson Lo-Wind 50's installed. I bought paper/oil caps from Russia (as well as orange drops). OMG!!! Thanks so much Chris, for recommending these pups!!! I had a chance to A/B them from the Roswells that came with my guitar, and the increase in both volume and dynamic range is absolutely astounding! Well worth the investment, and I have you to thank for it! Best of Luck to you always, and thanks for all you do for us mere mortals!
A.M.A.Z.I.N.G playing. Hats off!
Only a matter of time till people are asking the question "...is Chris Buck the greatest guitar player ever made?"
David DiMuzio - in terms of feel and phrasing he’s up there with the best of them. On par with Jeff Beck I’d say. Could listen to him all day.
One of my favorites! Guy is dang good!
The best player in the room is the one with the biggest smile on there face.
Johnny Crustacean - remind me ......how do you spell bollocks?
Johnny Crustacean Whenever I see a critical comment like this I tend to go see the virtuosity on their page and it’s usually as empty as a room starring a feminist democrat comedian. I wasn’t disappointed.
really nice improvisation!.... and of course sound!.... i watched twice )
Your comments are very true Chris around their true representation of the guitars accoustic properties. Every vintage p90 I've played has been more microphonic than even the vintage PAFs. That's the reason in my experience. I literally can talk through the bridge of one 50s p90 I own!
0:35 This lick is just so good!!
I love the P90's in my goldtop LP--I primarily play jazz on rhythm pick up through a clean Twin Reverb. Can't forget that gig in a small club with old wiring though--it was my "Spinal Tap" moment for sure with all the hum and noise anytime I came close to facing the amp!
10:26 insane lick, you are so good playing bro, love your style and reviews
Great video, sublime guitar playing, your tone and feel is fantastic. And yes I agree P-90s rule. Will be testing a large single coil on my guitar soon, a Charlie Christian pick-up made by CC pick-ups in the UK. Can’t wait to test it.
This video inspired me to get a Reverend Gristle 90 guitar in Venetian Gold. Modern take on a pickup classic. Can't wiat to put it through my full pedal and amp collection but my initial impression is that it's a killer instrument. As far as Chris Buck's play, goodness; ever expressive, articulate and with tons of feeling. Keep it up, bro.
Gold Top Rev Star! Love it!
Hey, Chris, when you're good enough to rile up the 'my guitarist can beat up your guitarist' brigade, and set them to squawking, that is one measure of ability. For me, you're playing is astonishing on so many levels, not the least of which is the stunning rate at which you are still improving. There is talent, and then there's gifted talent--I think you're the latter, and that is a very rare and special quality. It's thrilling to see someone with your ability ignite and liftoff. You will inspire many, many players and music fans alike. All the best to you, brother. Okay, back to P-90s--let's do it.
I've watched many of Chris's videos, all which are supurb, this is the one however, that prompted me to hit the sub button. I'm patiently waiting to get a Revstar of my own soon, love the guitar!
Dragane did you get that Revstar yet? :D
@@emdblues nope. Back ordered. No eta available as of yet.
After I die I want to come back as Chris Buck’s guitar.
I guess I should bring this up with my therapist.
😂🎸 👍
would you have a humbucker?
