  • On this video I already did the job. This was post job, so I was just giving tips on how to get it done. I used T30 T25 E25 10MM sockets and ratchet and a flat head screw driver. Also i didn't show the bleeding procedure, but it has to be done after everything is put together and the fluid is in. There is plenty of videos on how to do it on a electric water pump.

    Thanks for the tip on removing the intercooler to get more room. Not a typical step for replacing a water pump.

    thank you for the video, it was a tremendous help. Took me 8 hours. the BMW service manual was worthless ( except for the bleed procedure )

    Good and descriptive video. For the first time I'm kind of glad that I didn't get my wife the turbo. Should be a bit easier without some of that stuff in the way.

    thank you for this video. I am a tech and was about to do this job in my gravel driveway and after looking it over I said no way. I actually called a BMW repair shop for estimate. Lol. After seeing this video I might actually go take this stuff out and try it tomorrow weather permitting. Thanks

    Do you recall if this is the 28i or 35i model of X3? I'm assuming it makes a difference but it may not.

    So when the dealer replaces water pump that also need to replace The thermostat?

    • @mechanicalman8048
      @mechanicalman8048  Před 2 lety

      Mmm well yes and no. It is best to replace both at the same time. But it isn't absolutely necessary.

    • @rschneid1996
      @rschneid1996 Před 2 lety

      It is good practice to replace the thermostat whenever you replace the water pump. The thermostat itself is relatively low cost and the labor to replace it alone is almost the same as that needed to replace the water pump and the thermostat.

      There seems to be some kind of issue loading within the first minute. Go ahead and skip that first minute I think it will go back to working after that time.

      Thanks for uploading this. Totally saved my butt doing this. Taking the fan out is the best way for sure. Was able to get the pump and t-stat out as an assembly which took less time. Not a job for a newb for sure.
