Agreed, but I played a couple hours of it and I enjoyed it despite that. Ultimately, it still is disgaea at it's core. The only reason I stopped playing was cause the issue with the dlc. So, I decided to finish up d5 since I never finished it.

@@Shinky personally I still think its a far cry from Disgaea 5, but most certainly alot better than 6.
I hope the next one finally closes the gap even more, as I see many improvements in the right direction.

@@markuszilke4773 Imo it's on par with D5 and ranks at #3 or 4 for me. Gameplay is just as smooth and the cast is one of the best out of the 7 games. The play on the Western weeaboo tourist mixed with political analogues on traditional Japanese values was entertaining. Still not a big fan of the 3D style but they brushed it up a ton from D6, and I can definitely see the potential for further aesthetic improvements.
@@TactlessGuy Opinions differ, I do agree though that the cast was somewhat entertaining. D5's cast wasn't that strong for me either. I still feel that there is more removed from the title than was present in D5. No custom colors, no Overloads (I really enjoyed that mechanic, giants are not so interesting to me.) technically not as many classes (yeah I know, they have female male variants that are only 90% the same, but I don't think that counts) and I think D5 had certainly more interesting classes. End game in D7 kinda was boring too.
And the Autobattle function is still strange to me. Like, its not that hard to implement in a decent way. What I am really missing is functions that were already present in FF:tactics where you could choose certain units and those are AI controlled, so you can focus on less units yourself. I think that be a great QoL feature.
The current auto-battle system ain't it, and the Fuel they might as well cut away. I know its a response to D6's system being criticised, but I feel that's not the right solution. They kinda try to reinvent the wheel here.
Overall, I am obviously not saying you are wrong. Just pointing out some things I am missing personally.

Depends on the company, usually you just send an email to their PR email with a little of your channel details, your background, and request a review copy. Like for example I’d say I’ve been streaming for over 10 years on twitch/Justin.tv and my channels are based exclusively on JRPG/story based games.

My issue with Disgaea is that sometimes, the stages take too long to get through. I don't just mean the enemies are strong, but sometimes, you also have to contend with whatever gimmick the level has be it warp panel stuff or enemies on separate platforms that you need to toss your own characters onto. Auto battle I suppose would make subsequent runs better, but I still find myself groaning when a particularly complex stage comes up.
I get that fr. But that’s the best part imo. I live for the old stages where the whole floor is invincible except for one panel lol. Makes me think
Gimmick stages are kinda whole point and difficulty of the game. This why you build with one OP unit, medic for that unit and everyone else is dedicated thrower, it makes any stage much faster. Your also not suppose to just repeat every stage, you just do stage once and then you move on, you repeat grinding maps so usually something super simple with no gimmicks.

Yep I'm playing it on PC and loving it. Already beat everything to do in the game after just shy of 100 hours but I'm having fun grinding away and trying to build some fun items.
Did they bring back the cool animation for team attacks? Or is that still gone

I know D6 was not well received, but I like to think it was the experiment of bringing Disgaea into 3D.
It tried to use one of the games core mechanics (Reincarnation) as a main point in the story

This is because Disgaea is and always has been an attack focused game, they massively prioritize offense over defense, which make building op damage dealers easy.
I'm going to get my copy of the ps4 version this Thursday coming up and getting the season pass when that comes out

Absolutely, the main game is fun, but it shines in post game
I have not played D4 and DD2 but I like how Disgaea goes different stories for the same formula
D1: A demon self-portrayed as evil refusing to have good emotions and hisnmerting with an overly positive angel
D2: A human world overtaken by a DemonLord and a love story between a hero and the daughter of his enemy
D3: School-theme demon world with opossed views to our human standars and a twist to the Hero Vs DemonLord cliché
D5: Conquer and revolution war with space theme instead of countries and a story about love and vengance
D6: A story about refusing to give up with the most over the top numbers of damage to imply the massive treath that was being faced
D7: Japan-theme demon world (and I have yet to play to know the kind of twist in this story)
Sure hope NIS would give the chance to D3 and DD2 to have all of them on switch
Just Disgaea d2 and Disgaea 3 need ports to anything really

Hearing the main quest is only 25 hours is a relief. Maybe I'm just slow but the main story for all the Disgaea games I've played took at least 70 hours each time.

A few months ago, I started to play Disgaea 1 Complete out of curiosity. Every article I read about the series mentioned crazy stat numbers and levels one could level up his characters. After more than 10 hours playing, I was still around level 13 or so and none of my characters got any crazy stats. I guess all those reviewers and fans were talking about a grindy post-game after spending hundreds of hours in the game. I got bored. The story was very paper thin and sparse. The game was just a series of levels with the main objective always the same -- kill all enemies on the map. After three or so such levels, a cut-scene appeared showing some new characters and their shenanigans which I didn't find particularly funny. Also, I noticed that I tended to just focus on a few characters I had from the very beginning of the game as to level up any new characters which appeared later (or were purchased later) required additional grinding. I was very disappointed and quit the game. Maybe sometime in the future I'll try the fifth game in the series as people often say it's gameplay-wise the pinnacle. From the review of the seventh game, I don't see anything substantially different. Maybe the story is better?
So the story is never really the main focus, it’s usually silly and nonsensical. The real part is getting incredibly overleveled with insane stats in post game. It’s really just a game designed for people who love the grind
Disgaea is not for everyone but it is much more than just for people who like to grind. Did you reach the item world? it's a randomized dungeon with floor tiles with special effects. I treat the levels as puzzles I want to beat with my underpowered characters. The 6th game introduces a lot of shortcuts to grinding. You can create a new character with higher level if you have enough resources. I believe most of these functions have been retained and improved in Disgaea 7 ( Don't take my word for it, I haven't played it yet).
If that's enough to convince you I would love to hear if you give the Disgaea series another try!
If not, then well at least you gave it a try. I hope you find the same enjoyment in other games as I find in Disgaea.
You're right, it could be so much better if every installment wouldn't be the same lazy stale crap where they change maybe three things and if they had fights that actually follow the story in a meaningful way instead of having those inane dialogues followed by fights which have absolutetly to do with anything, dood.
A real overworld map would be nice for a change instead of those stage selection screens. Maybe add some other factions to interact with and spots of interests to continue the main story and also have some side stories/missions. And there could be unique dungeons and places to find.
While I don't level ONLY 1 Character but there is usually one that's the strongest. Kind of a leader. I rarely, if ever, level the "Main" characters. I almost always just have a party of monsters. My most powerful unit in Disgaea 5 was a Black Rabbit named Zachary and he decimated everything in his path. But I also had a host of other beasts to pull from, and of course Generic units for more ranged attacks and the occasional Weapon Transformations. Plus ya need them for throwing and towers. But that bunny, that bunny was the leader. One of the many reasons I hated 6 was because the Monster classes were so limited.
This game screams "Play me on the Steam Deck!"
6 was on between game during asset transfer to 3d, probably simply wanted it out to make some money when they realized they need much more time to bring everything to 3d with certain quality level. 6 was sacrifice so 7 could exist.

It's really cool how there are so many different player archetypes for Disgaea games.
Some people focus on making one character overpowered and play most of the game in 1 character. Some people, like me, want to create every character and use underleveled teams to beat the stages.
Some people rush to the endgame and minmax their time. While weirdos like me spent an hour looking through all their low level items. I think I never finished a DIsgaea story mode in less than 100 hours (Or near 100 anyway).
Some people just want to grind. I enjoy the puzzle aspect, especially in the item world where you need to get clever to beat certain stages. Especially if enemies are significantly stronger.
I've been hyped for Disgaea 7 since it's announcement and I'm so happy it is better than D6. I enjoyed Disgaea 6 but it has multiple very glaring issues.

I am loving it have 50 hours in the demo and have all kinds of guides come check them out only 20 min guide to power level 9,999.
Got 36hrs in the demo with 9k unit and another with all spells at 41prof. I know once the game is released all this grinding will be pointless bc itll even quicker to reach but i cant stop playing😂😂😂😂
Your grind is not futile at all as RP gets you straight to high level items, HL and evilities. Also the accumulated stats in the juice bar in the demo are a good start to the game.
As much as i like to grind on some games, disgaea just has too much grind for me. You can hit absolutely huge numbers but it never is that necessary for gameplay to reach that high. The level cap of 99999 is too redundant when the game's final boss can be one shot with a level much lower than the cap. One of the games i feel does this well is the nis game labyrinth of refrain and labyrinth of galleria where the level cap is 99 but if you reincarnate the puppet soldiers, you transfer its skills to a new body and the scaling per level goes up, allowing level 99 to reach new stat heights. Until the soul is also capped at level 99. That is the absolute max the stats can grow. I know some people like the grind to keep going forever but i like to see the end eventually.
You mean final boss of story? No one is leveling to 9999 to beat that, all the grind and billions of HP points etc are just for ridiculous fun, it's kinda meme of series. If you don't like it fine, but that grind to stupid numbers is what people love. There are very few games that let you be that stupidly OP
Am I planning on getting it? Yes. Will I play it? I want to... but like almost every other Disgaea game it probably will end up stopping there. I keep forgetting about them and now I'm like, "Fuck, do I need to play ALL of the games to really understand them? Because now I'm super behind." lol I played maybe a few hours of Disgaea 1 back on the PS2, but I never beat it. But I remember enjoying it a lot. Maybe I can make it a goal next year to not only play most of my Neptunia games, but also dive into Disgaea as well.
Disgaea games are pretty standalone. You might miss a few references with the DLC story characters because they’re usually just character stories to add past MCs to the party. The only exception to this is Disgaea D2 on the PS3 because it’s directly related to Disgaea 1.

@@kafuumaki If you only have time to play 1 game, Play Disgaea 5. From Disgaea 2 to 4 the Main Cast of Disgaea 1 would appear as Post game and cameo boss fights or be involve in the story (Disgaea 2 for instance) but after 4 they became....DLC ugh....

I wish I could get into the Disgaea Series. I own a bunch of them but I just get so overwhelmed with all the mechanics and features of the game, I just shut it off.
Yeah there’s a lot of mechanics, they’re super fun though if you get into them
then this type of games isn't for you. it's a game for people who love grinding and slow turn based tactics... to me it's fun and relaxing to play
No one like slow turn based games, that's why every modern turn based game D7 included has turbo button. Pretty much turn based games with no turbo are unplayable in modern age.

price is way too much for what you get in my opinion, i really want this but il wait till it goes lower and hopefully they add more content/characters/monsters
skill cutscenes went downgrade but overall I like the game, as other people point out gameplay wise its still very much the Disgaea we love, honestly my only issue with disgaea games is that for some reason probably Bias and such, nothing and I mean none of the following protagonist and characters seems to be able to top Laharl, Etna and Flonne for me, I just can't love the characters as much as I loved the characters of the OG
Ive always used a balanced party. Couldnt imagine how boring it would be to play with a single character.
@jiggyb2640 I have played them all. Many of them multiple times. A small group of characters is fun, especially post game. But maxing a single character for story progression would rob me of the fun.
To each his own but 99% of people just build one OP character they like, getting several characters to be stupidly OP is too tedious and getting stupidly OP is whole point of the game.

there are only 2 games that will always be a Day 1 Buy for me. Pokemon, and Disgaea. so i will be geting this Day 1.
that said i do wish NIS would remake Disgaea 3 and Disgaea D2, both are Locked to the PS3. and yes i still have my PS3 and my copys of them Games. it be nice to play them on the Switch or my steam deck. yes i know 3 is not looked on with love by most. and the GRX are bad for a PS3 game. no update to the GFX from 2 was so bad. and at the time we was all looking foward to HD Disgaea.. that said i still loved the game.. the story, it was still a grate game. i also know some ppl was not over the top happy about 6 aswell, i like 6 a lot to. but yes on the switch it run BAD. still a grate game. even if for me it's at the bottom of my list for most fun Disgaea games. so i am looking forward to 7.
Just emulate them, not sure how deck will handle it as it's very weak but it should be enough to emulate D2 and D3.
I still only have the demo, but I somehow have a level 3k felynn and a level 2k thief, the latter of whom has 200k+ in every available stat....

It's fun but it feels like half a game compared to some of the earlier games.
I forgot Nintendo Switch even existed until i saw all the Mortal Kombat reviews and memes. I've always had an issue with performance. I know it's Nintendo and I shouldn't expect top tier performance but they just seem like they're making poor decisions with ports to try and compete with other platforms. If you have trouble running a disgaea game, that's a huge issue for me. Is Nintendo becoming a meme?
It doesn’t really have too much trouble running Disgaea 7. It’s just falling behind honestly. Just waiting on that basically confirmed switch 2 at this point

I don't know....the 3D models are a huge turn off after the Amazing Disgaea 5. Thats one reason I skipped 6, 7 seems to be the same and many attack animation are just worst than old games even thought I end turning the animation off but thats after at least 100 hours of playtime or post game.
I mean I too prefer the 2D Sprites but the 3D didn’t bother me in this game. The animations were so cool!
The animations really good this time compared to 6 and a lot more alive. I know its a personal taste thing... Been playing 7 after playing 5 lol
Try it, it's actually good and there are some good animations too. It's huge upgrade over d6. For me it feels just as good as D5 to play.
@wykydytron Yeah in 7 some of the animations are really expressive and interesting eg the Prinny's. It seems like Atlus spend quite a lot if time to refine them. Yeah, it does feel a lot like 5 lol.
I agree that the 3D models are one of the downsides, but compared to 6 and their really shoddy 3D models and generic animations, 7 is a huge step up. It's not as good as 5 yet, but I can see the direction they're trying to go and I think I'll get used to it over time.

My problem with Disgaea is the obsession with level grinding. I don't see the real purpose of that, it's just padded and inflated.
That’s just the kind of people the games are designed for though. People who enjoy the level grind and no cap for how strong you can get. It’s a very specific Niche but the people who love it really love it
The beautiful thing about Disgaea is you don't even have to! I play for the puzzles and crazy animations. Others play for the story and characters. As long as your goal is not to beat the strongest enemies, you don't need to grind.
I hate grinding but I enjoy just running through the item world, which takes care of the grinding.
Would be nice if there were more challenges to grind for where you get great stuff which you couldn't get otherwise or a story that doesn't end at level 40 or at least a good story with some good writing instead of what we're getting since the second game.
Doesn't do nearly enough to spark my interest again. It needs a complete overhaul.

there's nothing rebooted about Disgaea 7.
sure they slaped on a fresh coat of paint on it and added in a few new things, but everything is still the same.
all the systems and core of the game is the same and has been the same all the way back sense Disgaea.
just because they added in few thing's and improved other systems in the game does not mean they rebooted the Disgaea franchise they only improved the experience.
They effectively removed auto-battle. Locking it behind a depleting resource and I hate that. Disgaea is essentially a grind simulator with unholy amounts of repeated stage completions. Massive deal-breaker for me. I know I’m probably a minority in this, but it seems so unnecessary to remove it.
I can understand where you’re coming from. Though I feel it needed to be reworked, because it basically was an auto level system. The grind is part of the enjoyment of Disgaea.

@@Shinky if it’s an option then why remove it? Those that enjoy the continuous grind and have enough time in their schedule to do that great! They can leave it off and nothing is affected. But some of us don’t have the time, and auto battle made it accessible. Thankfully there’s no shortage of JRPGS, this one just isn’t for me anymore
Not getting this game. I was a big BIG disgaea fan and played all of them other than disgaea 6. I'm not a fan of the 3d. Also, thiers nothing new? like the same characters to choose from the same content, nothing new.

@Shinky it's like the dynasty warrior franchise. But at least the dynasty warrior tried new game mechanics like u being a ruler of a land. Simply changing from 2d to 3d isn't exactly game breaking. It would actually be cool if u could control your land and go up against other overlords and try to take over their land or vice versa. appoint generals and luitenents.

D6 was so bad, i still dislike the 3D and the new focus on so many sexy girls units instead of cool monsters like 1.
There are lots of monster units in Disgaea 7. I just personally prefer the human characters.
