    I am Ukrainian. My country has been invaded by Russia. In this video, I will tell you what happened on the seven-hundred-sixtieth day of the war.
    Day 760: Mar 24
    Today, there are a lot of updates from the Bakhmut direction.
    The most interesting news comes from the southern flank.
    Here, the situation is very complex and dynamic. After the failure of cutting off Ukrainians from the south of Ivanivske, Russians decided to divert their focus to the north of the village. In this area, Russians made incremental gains which enabled them to break the stalemate and maintain their momentum in and around the village.
    In previous reports, I stated how the hill to the northwest of Ivanivske gives Ukrainians a tactical advantage, enabling them to strike Russians who are trying to advance in the lowlands through the village. For this reason, Russians constantly shelled the hill with artillery and bombed it with aviation. Russians already tried to advance and take the tactical heights by conducting a turning move from the south to engulf Ivanivske but failed. Therefore, they decided to do the same but from the north of the village. Their goal is to establish a foothold on the hills, then entrench and expand their control of the hill. After that, Russians would inevitably try to establish fire control over the road to the village, force Ukrainians out, and cut off major supply lines. Once Ukrainian defenses to the south of the village are undermined, the Russian plan is to finish the operation by advancing from the hills to try to take Klischiivka into a pocket.
    So, after the Russians finished conducting their artillery preparation and suppressing the Ukrainian fire, they launched a powerful attack with infantry and armored vehicles. Geolocated footage shows that in the aftermath of heavy clashes, Russians established control of part of the hill that is facing the village. Meanwhile, Ukrainians maintain some positions to the west of the hill in hopes of launching counter-attacks and regaining the lost positions.
    After the capture of a tactically important hill, Russians were able to advance while facing much softer Ukrainian resistance in the village itself. For this reason, Russians launched extensive preparations with very destructive TOS thermobaric artillery systems to pummel Ukrainian positions and amplified the destruction with drone strikes. After that, Russians launched one wave of assaults into the village after another. Ukrainian fighters report that the situation is difficult but that they are holding on and knocking out Russian armored vehicles. Based on footage from the village, we can see that the village is mostly destroyed as a result of heavy bombings over the past months. Because of the lack of proper infrastructure for firing positions and sleeping quarters, neither Russians nor Ukrainians can exercise proper control over these ruins with troops on the ground. For this reason, every Russian assault into the village consists of mostly armored vehicles, in hopes of overwhelming Ukrainians with their sheer firepower and numbers, which leads to heavy losses for the Russians due to lack of infantry support.
    However, Ukrainian fighters report that supply lines to the village are now also placed in danger because of the Russian control of the tactical elevation from which they use anti-tank guided missiles to strike Ukrainian vehicles moving along the road. To counter this, Ukrainians launched FPV drone strikes at Russian positions on the hill. Generally, the roads in this direction are very dangerous not only because of the Russian anti-tank fire but also because of the damage to other vital roads like the one to Chasiv Yar, and here, the situation is very intense but much less difficult.
    Russians, as seen before, have resorted to scorched earth tactics to demolish any infrastructure that can be used by Ukrainians as fortifications, firing positions, shelters, or sleeping quarters. In Chasiv Yar, the extensive daily bombings with glide bombs that carry hundreds of kilograms of explosives forced the Ukrainians to no longer use the town as a point of troops rotation and treatment of wounded and instead have to use nearby towns. Ukrainian fighters report that roads to the town itself are so damaged by bombings to the point they are no longer usable. However, this comes off as a double-edged sword for the Russians. Although they inflict hard blows on Ukrainian logistics, they also cause problems for themselves in advance because they will have nowhere to establish positions...

    So in… Better… news… It looks like the US’s major spending bill was FINALLY passed in full. This didn’t have any Ukrainian aid tied to it, BUT the US military being properly funded again means that there should be, last I heard, about 2-4 Billion that COULD be sent over in the meantime (These were withheld as of writing in case the budget showdown continued any longer, as these were meant to restock the US military itself).
    Even if the BIG aid package takes a smidge longer (and with the main budget passed, there should be little delay in getting the package out) the US budget being approved _should_ mean that there could at least be a better trickle of money and resources being sent to Ukraine from the US for the foreseeable future.

No more stalling while Johnson "works on his own bill." Everyday Johnson delays the vote Ukrainian soldiers are dieing and being irreparably injured.

    What is the purpose of conquering territories if you only conquer ruins? If a 10-story apartment block costs several million euros and they raze entire districts to the ground, the lost military equipment is not worth even a fraction of what is destroyed on the ground. If every 20-year-old boy earns one million euros for the economy over the next 40 productive years of his life, the amount of loss or professional exclusion due to acquired disability is an even greater loss for the economy than these real estate properties. I'm not surprised at the defenders' resistance. If you don't defend yourself, the aggressor will make you disappear. However, I don't understand the aggressor. This doesn't make sense to me at all. These territories will not be Russian forever. The only exception would be if Russia was preparing for eventualities to evacuate Russians from the areas bordering China or from the colonial areas east of the Urals (if they will leave the minorities in their home areas, but the Muscovites will probably flee to Europe)

    • @arakuss1
      @arakuss1 Před měsícem

      The strategy of scorched earth could be not to conquer but create enough of a dead mans land between what the Russians have a hold of in the east and any Ukrainian force. By creating a much larger zone any attempt for Ukrainians then to mount a counter attack will face an equally hard chance of regaining anything and establishing a defense if they do take ground. The Russians are using, from what is reported in this video, armor and mobile forces without much infantry support. These seem like large scale mobile probes if not thunder runs with firepower to break up and destroy Ukrainian forces along the fronts. Without infantry they can't hold ground they take so it looks like their intent is not to hold the ground but push back the Ukrainian forces and create a larger barrier between the two. This strategy also creates chances of destroying and capturing any Ukrainian forces caught in an encirclement. Russia from the beginning of the war had an infantry issue of not enough to take Ukraine. That is why they went for the quick penetration to take the capital. That is why they then fell all the way back to the current lines. Now it appears they have reorganized and are doing these concentrated mobile and air strikes to force Ukraine back. This is becoming more of a war of wills. Not will Russia take Ukraine or Ukraine surrenders but forcing the other to the table and having an advantage in negotiated settlement. I think Russia is going for the strategy of they have what they want and is willing to destroy everything else so they can keep their current gains. Russia does not wish to loose Crimea in any situation. Wasting men and resources to dwindle Ukraine of men and resources in their minds will either result in Ukraine coming to the table or Ukraine destruction but also to keep any drive on Crimea. I think Russia's goals now is to keep the Easter parts of Ukraine so they can say they are the protectors of that region and to make sure not to loose Crimea. Right now they are willing to flatten the rest of Ukraine to secure those goals for they know they don't have the man power to occupy all of Ukraine.

      It’s about Putins malignant narcissism portrayed as nationalism. It’s about corruption that will make the income from the natural resources in these regions go to him and his fellow kleptocrats, while the Russian taxpayers will pay for the war. It’s also about creating a cleansed pathway to the NATO territory Putin also wants to conquer. (Since he believes NATO is weak when Poland doesn’t take out Russian missiles in their air space, and similar.)
      Obviously there is no way Russia can occupy Ukraine even if it manages to invade it. Invading is the easy part. Controlling such a wast nation, were essentially everyone is and will remain hostile for generations, to a Russian regime will cost multiple times the cost of the invasion, and take a few million of Russian troops and police to control the population stationed there…indefinitely. It’s not as during the cold war era after WWII when communism was rather popular among the population in so many nations. But NO ONE outside of Russia finds its kleptocracy popular.
      At the same time, Russia with its small GDP (extremely small GDP per capita) will have absolutely no possibilities to keep up with NATO in the arms race they have initiated. I mean, now when Finland and Sweden joined, just the small Scandinavian nations together could afford the same military spendings as Russia. California alone could afford even more.
      Creating border infrastructure and policing the borders towards NATO in an occupied Ukraine (and elsewhere), and the arms race, will mean that Russia can’t possibly manage policing the wast areas and borders in the east. Making for easy opportunities for terrorist like ISIS, heroin smugglers (to feed the Russian veterans of the war and those who would be stationed in Ukraine), and other thugs, to roam Russia. Besides the by the western world unofficially supported partisans who’ll continuously havoc the oil production and the means of transporting goods and fuel to China.
      And in the same way as the USSR collapsed when it couldn’t afford to pay for the policing of the borders between the communist world and western Europe (opening the borders between Hungary and Austria, making the Berlin wall useless), Russia will collapse in the same way. It’s just a matter of time and amount of human suffering for Ukrainians (and Russians too). And if the Russian federation collapses into even smaller independent nations.

    Trying to hold a hill can be problematical to the extreme. As recorded in a German WWII diary the Russians would constantly blast a targeted hill with artillery and air attacks making it impossible to continue to be occupied. The same will happen here while Russia has uninterrupted firepower superiority. But we do have drones now so I'm a bit surprised that these are not able to successfully target artillery, they could be a game changer in these types of situations. I don't know but are drones being commanded at a higher organisational level for such purposes?

    • @nic.h
      @nic.h Před měsícem

      Range is one issue. Artillery has a pretty long reach. This rules out typically FPV drones.
      Mobility is another issue, artillery systems wouldn't typically sit in one place, fire, move, hide, repeat. So you can't just use GPS coordinates.

    I understand the subject matter is serious but on an amusing note: The small village West of Chasiv Yar is named "Stinky". The word "Stinky" in english means "bad smell" so in my sophomoric way I found that amusing. "Stinky" probably has no negative connotations in Slavic languages. In the English speaking world one might perhaps found a town having a wood pulp mill as its main business and that might cause the town to be named "Stinky" in honor of this.
