  • There is nothing more important than protecting your family. André and Mariale just put their one-year-old son down for a nap after lunch when the CO alarm went off and triggered their Ring Alarm. They didn't know what to do, but thanks to their 24/7 professional monitoring subscription, the fire department was dispatched within 60 seconds. The firefighters arrived quickly and discovered dangerous levels of carbon monoxide throughout the house from a faulty gas fireplace in the basement.
“We were very thankful that we had the Ring system, that they called the fire department for us,” André says. “This is very serious. We could've died,” Mariale adds.

We tested the battery in ours, literally Next day, it died.. my parents ran to the store unknowing about the battery. I stayed home, 14 at the time. I had started to feel sick, sitting in the living room, our border collie kept barking at me. So I let him out, and he’d turn right back to the door and bark. So I’d let him in.. we did this maybe 3 times before I finally went out with him and sat on the deck. He sat face to face with me till my parents got home. I had thrown up 7 times at that point. They sent me to lay down, a little while later my dad found the furnace had backfired, and had been putting carbon monoxide into the house. I just remember my mom running in the room yelling for me to get up, and she took me to the hospital. My levels were still way above safe. If it wasn’t for our dog, Idk what would have happened. Also the fact he didn’t go outside just for himself, he made sure I went too. He was a good boy, miss him a lot.

Wow, that's so scary!! I'm relieved for you that you had a happy ending, on that day at least. Dogs are the best creation that God ever made. I'm sorry for loss of your sweet pup. I'm certain, though, that they never completely leave us & will be waiting to guide us home, when our time on this planet is over. I really hope so, anyway. Knowing that we will see them again someday, would make that loss so much more bearable. 💔😢

My best friend passed away 10 years ago from this.. And it happened a little different. A guy parked in the garage of their apartments and he didn't realize he left his car running that's how tired he was. And it went through the whole Apartment building and a few hours after somebody smelt fumes and started beating on apartments. My best friend was the only one that died she was only 23 years old. And she died two days after I had my middle daughter. She called me and said "she couldn't wait to meet her" ! And two days later she was gone. Please get an alarm. R.I.H Becky💞🕊️! I hope this helps! I'm so happy this family is safe🙏🏿

This happened to my fam. My mom had woken up all of a sudden and had this weird uncertainty so she began to pray +read bible. She felt something was wrong because the alarm kept beeping. She kept telling my dad (her husband) that they should call 911 but he said to go back to sleep because it was just the batteries. She stuck to her gut and called 911. She woke us all up and we all went outside, it was really early around 6 am. The firefighters came and they confirmed it was the CO alarm. I thank god she listened to her gut feeling, or we wouldn’t be here today.

The silent killer as they call it!
About 2 years ago, my pet house rabbit became very lethargic, not eating or drinking, then me noticing her litter tray was empty, so not having any bowel or bladder movements. Took her to the vet, they couldnt find anything wrong with her. They were puzzled but told me to see how she gets on. Then my cat started to be sick and refused to come in the house. She loves her food but also loves being out, however, she wouldnt come in at all for her food. It was odd, but didn't think past that. Then my son, 8yr old at the time, started complaining of headaches over the next few days, then I started with them. Both felt lethargic in the house and wanted to sleep or lay and watch TV. However when at work and he at school, we seemed to get our energy levels back. Still not putting all the issues together, we just carried on. Then my sons friend came for a sleep over and didn't feel great by the evening time. The next day, my friend called me and asked if I had a carbon monoxide meter.....I didn't!! She expressed her concerns after the thought came to her. Anyway, I called the Gas supplier, explained how we'd been and they told us to open all windows and doors and get out of the house until they arrived. They came, did a Check and found a leak at my boiler. It was a slow leak but obviously the monoxide was building up inside the house gradually, poisoning us, slowly but surely. I'm so glad my friend thought of this and called. I'm grateful for the gas engineers help. Like I say, i now have a meter but my stupidity of not having one, could have led to unthinkable consequences.

First thing you want to do in a situation like this is leave the premise immediately. Most people want to call their gas provider, but the gas company can only take care of NATURAL gas which would have a rotten egg smell. CO has no odor and is usually due to a problem with a gas appliance. Since gas companies are not furnace or gas appliance repair people, they would need to call a certified repair person. All gas companies can do is turn the gas off.

Without That Carbon Monxide alarm that Complex Management installed during last Inspection, and thankfully its Kidde Talking One that said (Warning Carbon Monxide) we wouldn't even known it was releasing dangerous Carbon Monxide Levels

Electric Appliances do not apply. There is no need for an alarm if you have electric appliances... this only applies to gas burning appliances inside the home or a car left running inside a garage in a split level house where the fumes can enter the home.

I’m trying to find a video showing how all of the components work together. Does such a video exist?

Hi Becki. While we don't have a CZcams video showcasing this, you can learn more about the Ring Alarm and how it works here: support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005025306-Ring-Alarm-System-Basic-Information. Please let us know if you have other questions.

Hi Ring, when self Monitoring and the CO alarm goes off, will it call the fire department? If not will it just sound the siren? Thanks!

    • @ring
      @ring  Před 2 lety

Hey neighbor. IT's important to know what to expect with and without monitoring, so you can ensure the best experience when protecting your home with Ring, and we want to help. With Self Monitoring, police and fire department will not be dispatched. Learn more about this here: support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005322066-Understanding-Monitoring. Feel free to send us a private message if you have any other questions. We'll be there to help.

One time I turned on the heater, and went to a party, literally forgetting about the heater. When we got home, my dad had been yelling my name, because I left the heater on and the extension cord outlet started smoking. There were some good news and bad news. Good news was: The heater survived. Bad news is: The extension cord had been damaged and was burnt. Ever since this has happened, I have been scared to touch the heater ever since. I only use the heater when my dad is around because he will remember to turn it off. Be careful!

  • @Intentionally_Inflammatory

Last year I was woken up by my monoxide alarm in the basement around 3am... Went down to find it was at 840ppm... Then 950ppm... Then maxed out at 999ppm (alarm couldn't display any higher)
Oil furnace seal had cracked, and chimney was back drafting into the room.
Turned off the furnace, opened a window, and went back to bed 😂
