Have a CT scan on Wednesday. They want to see how bad my Diverticulitis is. Im in France and they do a blood test for Creatinine (something in your kidneys to show how well they are doing) a few days before. Similarly with any surgery type procedures you see the Anesthetist a few days before also so they can evaluate your body ratio...well that's here in the countryside anyway.

I have a question regarding when a CT scan is performed. Is it necessary for the gantry to rotate around the body to get the images required. or can your body be scanned by just having the body be moved back and forth into the machine while holding your breath .Also is there a light that comes on.

I saw the CT scan in my hospital, and the tunnel was MUCH longer and narrower than what is pictured above. I KNEW that I would not be comfortable in there without a sedative. When I told my doctor about it, she prescribed a mild sedative to take 1/2 hour before the test. This way, you're completely "with it" throughout the preparation and instruction time. By the time the test actually begins, the sedative will start, and you will be loopy JUST enough to make you comfortable, but you will still be there enough to hear the radiologist's instructions/comments. When the machine took me inside the scanner, I was met with a fan blowing right IN MY FACE! I kept trying to move because I cannot STAND having a fan in my face! The radiologist kept repeating "PLEASE hold still", but I was having a HARD time because of that fan. FINALLY, I gritted my teeth, SQUEEZED my eyes closed and waited for this part to be OVER WITH. FINALLY, the radiologist got the 1st set of pictures he wanted. Then he pressed the dial that brought me out of the scanner to start part 2, the Contrast Dye. I asked, "Could you PLEASE shut off that fan?" He said, "I could just turn it down." He saw the disappointed look on my face. Then he said, O.k. I'll shut it off." By this time I was COLD from the fan blowing on me. I asked for a blanket and was given one. #1.} The sedative was working on me ~ #2.} I had a blanket ~ #3.} The fan was off. ~ I WAS OUT! Too bad they didn't do this in the beginning!

Good grief, I watched this to remind me how long you hold your breath for when they are scanning you, not a single mention of it! when you go through the scan machine they not only ask you to hold your breath for 12-15 seconds to get a good image without you huffing away but the instructions are usually on the machine and you can see them and hear them when you are lying down Its automatic you see...sort of important if you trying to get over maybe a chest infection and/or have asthma...........................................:/
