  • This was once considered one of the best commanders in this format. Zur has called off and is a bit forgotten these days. But over the years he has gotten a few upgrades and still has a few tricks up his sleeve.

    I don't play cEDH but I did build a Zur deck for casual that I made a kind of stacks enchantment tribal deck. I build around getting out Rule of law as fast as possible, then using counterspells to keep it down and things like Strionic Resonator to double up zur procs before finishing people off with something like All That Glitters or a similar pump.

    • @cedhtv
      @cedhtv  Před rokem +1

      Not terrible. It is a way to play zur. I run into a zur deck that found an blue enchantment that forced people to sacrifice a land at the start of the turn.

    I've loved playing Zur for a couple of years now. Currently running and testing both Labman and Thassa along with Emergence Zone and Scout's Warning for a very high post-necro consistency. I've never thought about reanimating them in the end step- will definitely swap out Aetherflux for Shallow Grave/Necromancy and try it out!

    • @cedhtv
      @cedhtv  Před 3 lety +3

      Hope it works for you. I don't think you will see much of an upgrade in finishing the game but I think reanimator spells are better cards in general compared to that storm artifact.

    Totally agree on the fact that RED is gaining more and more potential. This is why I dismantled my Zur. I played it on a local tourney last Saturday, I got through the top 4, but lost the final round. Saw the video with this new build, looks nice, but I think Zur still can't keep up with the new decks. I am dismantling my Zur for now and get some red pieces and brew a new commander.

    I think you're wrong about the 2:00 necropotence trigger. At no point does Thoracle stay in the graveyard long enough for Necropotence to "see" it. The replacement effect is immediate upon discarding to hand size.

  • @VitalSyntax
    @VitalSyntax Před 3 lety +2

    Children of Korolis, and maybe Tainted Sigel are both worth running and mentioning with necro. Also I really like scroll rack with necro, ad naus, or peer, as it allows you to double the effective depth of your plays.

    I love Zur and I've always wanted to build him as a toolbox/control deck with whatever combo pieces you want to win with rather than a rush to combo deck. This is partially my preference in playstyle, but I assume the reason you never see this is that it is suboptimal when compared to the pure race to go off version that typically gets built. Have you ever tried to build him in this way or played against a more midrange control version build of Zur?

    Would Corpse Dance be an adequate alternative to Shallow Grave? I own every other card on this list except Shallow Grave, and I don’t really want to get one right now (other priorities atm). So what kinda of impact should I expect for 1 more generic mana?

    • @cedhtv

      w8 necro isn't overruling RIP at all. It is just not the same. Necro is a trigger. While RIP is a replacement effect.

    I'm going back to this video because I have almost a similar card even if its old please i need clarification. Last night playing casual to my local mtg store. We had an argument about Necropotense, and they said I can't do anything such cast combo in my end step and if i have flash i will do it on enemies upkeep. Because it's the old ruling and it was got reprinted. So if I attack zur pull necropotense if I draw 30 cards pay 30 life, I will receive the cards in my end step. So if don't have no maximum hand I have to discard everything and even if I have flash I have to do everything everything in enemies upkeep. They said I don't have priority in my end step. How true is that?

    • @cedhtv
      @cedhtv  Před 3 lety +3

      I woulden't say soo I mean how are you going to win. Slow kill them with aura buffs on Zur and stax them out? I have seen attempts and gotta say highpower on that one. Has some stronge plays it can do but still no.

  • @benjaminking3677
    @benjaminking3677 Před 2 lety

    Considering what cedh is rn I wonder if people would consider Zur stax an option. Zur isn’t as fast as Rog/Silas, Codie, and the rest. But Zur can get those early stax pieces (Aura Of Silence, Rule Of Law) out.

    • @towelguy
      @towelguy Před 3 lety +8

      look at the top very recent cards printed: Dockside extorsionist, an amazing card working amazing both as a combo piece and fast mana, jeska's will, now one of the best rituals producing 7 mana quite consistently, underworld breach is a new yawgmoth will with a consistent combo out of a intuition

    • @reddickrayterre9559
      @reddickrayterre9559 Před 3 lety +2

      The main reason is basically dockside extortionist as it has become a staple in cedh decks. A lot of decks right now try to abuse this card with infinite mana combos and an outlet. Access to a number of wheels plus a hullbreacher if you have blue is also debilitating.

    • @MasterDecoy1W
      @MasterDecoy1W Před 3 lety +3

      I think it's an inaccurate statement. What they mean is that red has become the best support color. Sure, you have a bunch of great red pieces, but Red isn't putting any other colors on it's back and carrying them to victory. I think Blue/Black is the strongest "color" in cEDH. Red recently surpassed Green as the best support color, and White is...well, it ain't bad, but stopping people from winning is not the same as winning.
