Y'all missed the Orion LF. The OG for this slot.
Part 2: Saint. Innova savant. Westside Stag. DGA sail (I always say it’s a 9 5 -1 1 despite its vastly different flight numbers), zetas moon s blend, I’d also throw in some 9-5-2-2 discs like the Valkyrie (despite the 4 glide). I work in a disc shop one day a week and I always recommend this series to newbies who want to learn about different discs. Love the flight numbers don’t matter series.
Sail is at least 10 5 -2 1 imho
Why not the pipeline from DGA. That seems like a better comparison
@@justwondering1926 I’m just not familiar with that one. I got a Sail thinking it would be a really flippy driver but it’s like a 9 speed crave to me. I bag a hatchet and a sail to fill that understable and straight lines but looking for something a step up in stability to pair with the other 2. The Sail has a 1.9 centimeter rim, which effectively makes it a 9 speed despite the 11 speed it’s listed as. But I’d be happy to see him test the pipeline and anything else people think fits that bill.
@@BryceRogers_ different runs maybe. Ive tried a buddies older sails and they are much flippier, despite being unused. But im also basing it on how it performs for my 57 year old arm speed. Exact same flight as my crave. Just a bit longer. Guessing faster arms get a lot more flip.
Also the Westside Bear is a close comparison.
The aura construct is the most understable plastic, they actually changed the numbers on it in aura to -2 instead of -1 . Nebula and ethos construct are pretty straight with a lil fade at the end.
The ethereal ones will flip to flat and just push with a slight fade at the end.
I used to bag an aura and an ethereal. Great compliments to each other, a 1-2 punch. But I was more comfortable with my Valkyries so I ended up with them instead. Aura Constructs definitely remind me more of Valkyries than Dynasties
My ethos construct flies more like a PD, but the aura is very flippy, not much more stable than my mantra. The ethereal is the one that actually flies like the flight numbers, at least of the discs I have.
yeah alot of Thoughtspaceathletics disc change wildly with there plastics. have a Whole line up of one disc in the 🎒
@@thacherdramstad8410 I second this. Nebula Ethereal is the perfect plastic for this mold
Discmania Vanguard is a 9,5,0,2 "Thunderbird" ?
I find it considerably less stable than a Thunderbird. But it flies more like a Thunderbird than my Savant.
@@curtisridenour as a "850-ish and about 330/350-max distiance player" I find it hard to find the trusty difference between my C-line CD1, new S-line TD, Lone Howl/Nordic Phenom PD and The Vanguard... they do moooore or less the same with my amount of inconcistencies... Would be interessting to see Caleb throw them all ( and including the S-line CD, and Zeta's moon too) - The jump in my bag from FD's, FD1's and C-line FD3 and up to my DD and DD1's is generally a big mess
@@anderschristianhaldpederse8472 I throw in Denver and up in the mountains. Discs fly differently up here. So I also struggle to notice the difference in some of the more stable higher speed discs. All I know is that my Thunderbird seems unthrowable backhand and my vanguard can hold that line a bit longer. Forehand I am more likely to flip the vanguard over. Now that might just be my Thunderbird.
Tesla for me is exactly what my Innova Thunderbird was. When looking at MVP numbers, I compensate for the extra gyro effect of the overmold by adding a 1 to the turn number. So it's more of a 9502 for me.
Or you can go 7 to 8 grams lower in weight than what you usually throw to get the expected lines from the flight numbers.
Gyro doesn’t always add stability tho, I’m not sure if that’s what u meant but be careful if you think gyro always adds a 1
Even on their site they say the Wrath is a beat in Tesla, the Wrath has a 9/5/-0.5/2 so yea idk why they haven’t changed the Tesla numbers to 9/5/0/2. Even Simon says it rarely has any turn to it.
@@MichaelSweet-nn5bg I throw a 159g Tesla & it flies like my ancient Champ Thunderbird did when a baby.
K1 Lots thrower here.
I like my cd1. For the Thunderbird slot I bag a vanguard
The lots is an absolute staple for me, the Goodpasture tour series are definitely out of the box more stable than the K1 line discs are, but within id say 10 really solid hits off of things it begins to do exactly what you want out of an out of the box lots, and the one I have has stayed true to that path since basically! Love the CG lots, I'd recommend them to everyone, even for the increased price
A great consistent easy to throw disc in the slot for me is the Millennium Orion LF. They make two versions of the Orion, the straight and the fade version, both are great but the LF long fade is that reliable wind disc for me.
My local shop has the TSA Construct as 10/6/-2/2 for Aura plastic but 10/6/-1/2 for everything else. I find the Construct in Cosmic Neutron to be the most straight flying with very gradual turn throughout the whole time it pushes forward with a gentle but dependable fade at the end.
Another interesting one. I'd say the DD Getaway is more what the Escape claims to be and what I bag in this slot.
I bag a Tessla in that slot. The flight numbers you should do are 12 5 -1 3 2 of the Destroyer and 11 5 -1 3 2 of the Wraith because many manufacturers seem to have discs with those numbers.
I use an Undertaker for this slot. 300-350' straight with a slight turn and a nice fade at the end. Any more power than that and it gets too flippy, which kinda negates the control part. As a beginner it was the first disc I was able to break 300' with and it flew farther than my distance drivers (which I shouldn't have even been throwing at the time). This and the Heat are great introductions to fairway drivers and for learning to get that nose down.
The escape is my go-to fairway, but it GOES, just like happened here for the glimmer. My lucid air is understable, and my regular Lucid is my "frozen rope" driver. My supreme though is so much more overstable than the one y'all have. I dont' think I have any 2 escapes that fly the same though... 😬
Super helpful thank you!
MVP Tesla in proton is one of my favorite discs, 9 5 -1 2 Mine has hit at least 50 trees and still retains its flight characteristics.
Prodigy FX-4 is extremely close to a Undertaker.
Make a part 2 for sure! Keep up the awesome content.
I had a hard time figuring out my neutron Tesla (171g) until a friend described it as a slower wraith with a low speed fade much closer to 3 than 2. Have been liking it a lot more since that conversation.
I realize that the Valkyrie is advertised as -2 turn, but that’s the archetypal disc in this slot. Pick the plastic that gives you the right stability for this slot and you have a winner.
I use the DGA Banzai for this slot
I bag 2 Saint pros (gold orbit and VIP) and a supreme escape for the over-straight-understable combo
My construct flies exactly like the one in this video! Thought I was going crazy there for a second.
Aura constructs are very understable compared to the Ethos. I bag an ethos for this slot and it's very much like a lots or escape.
@@Darthyeetrous shoulda stipulated, mine is an ethos construct, flies like a sidewinder
@@nathanbrinson well that's unfortunate. I know a few people throwing the ethos and they all fly similar. Tiny flip up, straight and glidey, tiny fade. I've seen nothing but understable with aura plastic so I assumed.
I throw constructs. The plastics vary pretty heavily in stability. I’m at 4500 feet so the aura constructs are perfect hyzer flip to flat to turn while the ethos and ethereal are straight to stable. Really similar flight to the cd1 for the ethos.
Ironically I got a dyed Undertaker from the Trash Panda Holiday Disc Exchange, then like two weeks later got a dyed Lots from the local putting league, exact same Charlie Goodpasture pro model no less. I love both of them equally so it's a struggle which one is my daily driver in that slot.
Hey Six Sided Discs, I just watched your video and I must say that it was really informative and well-made.
I was wondering if I could help you edit your videos and repurpose your long videos into highly engaging shorts? I can also make high CTR thumbnails for your channel
my construct flew the same as the video shows. got rid of it and got a dynasty.
So insane... My buddy and I keep debating the slots you make videos for the week you release... So handy! Thanks
That slot is the Fusion Escape for me
For part two id add in a k1 solf Falk and a Champion leopard. It could be that i dont throw hard enough but the go straight with a good fade
Yeah, both of those are quite a bit more understable than this slot
When I started playing, the escape was a go to for me in the woods, and it would just fly dead straight. I stopped playing for a few years and came back to it, with apparently a lot more arm speed.
All of my old escapes were way too flippy now, and all of the new ones I bought were more of the same. Here started my search.
I thought the Saint pro would be a good fit, but was surprised at how flippy they were for me.
I recently discovered the Lots, and it went straight in the bag. The straight flight makes it fly exactly like escapes used to for me, while also bagging two thunderbirds when I need a bit more stability
For my arm the s-line CD1 is perfect. Has the nice flip up on a baby hyzer and rides straight for most of it’s flight till the fade kicks in and it’s a nice pushing fade.
I prefer 6-8 speeds in the fairway driver role because most courses I play require a narrower line than what a 9 speed flies. Instinct is my common go-to, but sometimes I disc up to a Fission Volt.
I use two discs in this slot. My Lucid Saint flips and finishes a little more than the Saint pro. If I'm okay with a more right finish I choose this. Both my Prism and Proton Insanity's are if I want to hold the line a little tighter, but am okay with more fade at the end.
I'd like to see a showdown between the Saint and the Escape.
Some reviews show the Saint going a bit farther, but your results with the glimmer Escape are impressive.
In a variety of plastics please.
Need a part two for the saint. Mine turns over. I wonder if it's me haha. Yall should throw the mvp energy it's the most overstable disc I've seen!
Just picked up a Lots. Only threw it a few times before I threw it on an over the water shot. Got scared when it turned way more than expected, but came back with beef and actually landed farther to the right of my aiming point (forehand throw).
Innova Viking, I think it's a 4 glide ? But it's my go to. Savant seems to be closer to a thunderbird, for me
I love the Viking. The thing that sucks about throwing it, is they don't produce the mold a ton. It can be hard to find/ replace.
I have a TSA Construct in Nebula Ethereal plastic, and I would say it flies very true to their description of it.
The First Run Rally's were beefier than intended according to Drew. Believe they retooled them a bit for the stock runs and they have more flip up now. If you do another one of these videos, I'd test a stock run Rally as they are different discs.
I love and bag many discs within that control turn and fade number category of -1 / 2. I’d love to see what y’all think of the brave, servo, drive, aztec, enigma, sword, savant, and pharaoh. These range from speeds 6.5 up to 13, but those control turn and fade numbers of -1 / 2 are very interesting across multiple speeds.
Thanks for the update
I'm interested in the newly registered manufacturers Compound Discs and Forge Discs on PDGA, so I'd be happy if you could cover them in a video.
I used to LOVE my lucid escape (I got 2)... They bomb, but saddly they are just "throwlers" for me right now.
My 350' disc is a beat in champ tee bird. But for a long time it was my escape and innova champ savant. escape turns when new savant doesn't at 350'. But the savant is now flippy at about 2 years of wear and 65+ mph arm speeds, like my lucid escapes were new at about 58 mph arm speed.
Basicslly I think I need to find a thunder bird or anax and see how they work for me ... Misisng an 'over stable" disc between a 7 and 12 speed has been rough recently.
Great video.
7:36 if you are looking for a opto saint. Order straight from latitude 64.
Star thunderbird is the one i use for control, 9 5 0 2, but for controller flip/still faded I use the axiom glow inertia. 9 5 -2 2, but the the slightly beefier glow plastic makes it perfect.
I had a construct and found it to be much more understable than the numbers suggested
Love my supreme escape for an understable, gliding bomber. Getting a full turn out of that, with a slower arm speed, its a dream.
For the construct, it is the Aura plastic that comes out more US. Gotta get different plastic for the similar -1/2 flight.
9-11 speeds are probably my favorite as far as hand feel goes. I picked up a Lone Star Lariat in alpha plastic for this slot I guess, which is 9 5 -1 1. Feels ok. Flies true to the numbers imo. If I get my hyzer angle right it is a laser beam, but can be a tiny bit touchy due to the 1 fade. Only got so much room in my bag.
I throw a 169g Thoughtspace Ethereal Construct. My distance is forehand shots 270'-300'+ (backhand up to 250'+). The Construct has slightly more fade than my beat in 173g Star Valkyrie that can still handle the forehand when thrown flat. But maybe a touch less fade than my 174g K1 Lots, though very similar lines.
TLDR definitely not flippy like the Aura Construct in the vid despite my lack of power.
I have an esp undertaker and a big z undertaker, the esp is by far a much flippier disc. They both have finish but the esp holds the turn for far longer. They are both about the same age and have been used the same amount.
I been tossing Yikun Hou yi with those same 10/6/-1/2 as the Construct and it flys well understable even with my noodle arm so maybe its that extra glide that causes the more understable flight or something IDK.
I have a Saint (not pro) that I got thinking the extra glide would help out my noodle arm. I'd be interested in how it compares if you guys do a part 2.
The construct in aura plastic was probably the worst choice for this review lol, the ethos plastic constuct is what should've been used, i bag both and theyre nothing alike when it comes to flight
I currently use an opto musket that has a slight bit if turn as it is getting seasoned. I have been trying new molds to replace it as they only have skull art for the musket (which i dont vare for) ir plainstock stamps. I want to find a cool looking disc that flies the same rather than the plain one i do have or the skull art work that i dont like. So far tournament bears are very close. The hard part is that the musket has good glide and it consistently is about 20ft past all the others i have tried. I do have an ice orbit escape for my strait witg no finish sonthat glimmer escape may be perfect for me. I get about 300 out of my escape and musket. Only about a 48 mph arm speed.
I bag the Innova Valkerie at 9 4 -2 2
For my arm (a 55yo 330ft'er)... The Tesler (mine is a swamp find, grass coloured, plasma, no stamp factory 2nd) flies fairly straight thrown flat.. with an almost "Oh that's right, I'm supposed to fade' late hard fade and skip.
Great for going up a fairway then round a tree etc. dogleg.
I throw a glow Lots for my glow bag and it is perfect. I also throw a Star Valkyrie in my reg bag and it does a ton of work for me.
I use a K1 Falk (flattish, clear orange) that is probably uncharacteristically stable. It's not nearly as flippy as the domey K1 Falk (opaque, yellow, domey) that I also bag.
This slot of discs has been a point of contention for myself. I can't tell you which one is in my bag because idk and it's always changing lol
The undertaker is my most thrown disc these days. I have them in so many different plastics that I’ve lost count, but my favorite ones are just stock z and z swirl. Such a dependable disc.
Lots is exteeeeeeeemely underrated, also instead of the rally you should have compared the Era, very similar flight
The Gateway Diablo flies well for this slot, I just didn't like the lip on it and use a dynasty instead. People also say the Apache flies like this slot despite its numbers, but I haven't thrown it. Don't even consider a Lone Star Dos X for this slot, it's way too overstable for it. The Lariat might work better than the Wrangler though.
That run of construct specifically is pretty understable. Id say the ethos and nebula ethereal that ive thrown are much straighter.
I throw a timberwolf in this slot. I really wanted to bag the Tesla but I found it too overstable for that slot. I have tried a H4 (too understable), fx-3 (solid candidate), Aztec, f2, dos x, lariat, and shadowfax. I also have a brand new savant that I am looking to test out. I have bought most of these used as well. I like to throw discs already beat in for some reason.
I use a beta up Uli Z Swirl Raptor for this slot if I just want something to flip to flat, and I use an old ESP Glo Undertaker if I want more turn
10 speed challenge would be great 👍
a beat in kastaplast stål flies somewhere inbetween thunderbird and firebird so there's really no need for another disc in that slot
I ended up giving my esp undertaker away after I got a color glow Thunderbird. It seems to be more reliable and better for these Texas winds.
My construct flew the same as y’all, so it’s not just you guys it’s definitely their ratings. I was disappointed in the flight, not what I was looking for.
I bag a halo star TL3 in this slot.
I’d love to see y’all do an approach slot video. There are so many out there these days!
Discmania's Kyle Klein CS Vanguard is a 9 5 0 2 mold
The Champion Thunderbird has kept me from bagging this specific slot. Its only downside for me is the flashing on forehands, but so far, the pain is worth the result. The new C-line FD1 is awesome though, so that CD1's very tempting!
Dude, just sand off the flashing. The manufacturers didn't mean it to be there and it's entirely legal to remove.
@@SheaParkes yeah, I should. I was hoping it'd smooth out through use, and then I was worried that sanding it might make it less stable. I should value my skin more.
Flashing does increase stability (because it's functionally raising the PLH). But I would personally not suggest relying on flashing to make something more stable. In addition to being painful, one good road skip can take most of that off at once.
There are plenty of stability of Thunderbird out there. Go somewhere in person and grab a high wing champ. Or if online try a halo star or a big jerm thunderbird for more stability.
I bag the pie pan grunt in cherry plastic. 9/5/-1/2. Mine is 163 so gets a bit more turn than the discs in your video but a full weight would match perfectly what you’re looking for.
I got a construct in a mystery box and the parting line is much higher in the profile, it's so over stable I can't throw it. Maybe different runs differ greatly
I bag a k1 lots and an aura construct. Aura construct is definitely more understable than the rest of this list, and thats why I bag both. I feel like the extra glide is the culprit, just like how the river is more understable than the Passion or Cicada for me, more glide equals SLIGHTLY more flip.
In Colorado, the Escape flies much closer to the "regular" 9,5,-1,2 numbers.
Discmania Vanguard and Discraft Vulture are equivalent to Thunderbird (in theory).
The saint on my experience is mich more true to the -1 and is a bit flippier thanmost of these strait fairways. It tends to have a bit more turn and a but less fade. I would give the saint more of a -1 turn and a 1 fade.
Yea I’m having trouble numbering mine. Either -0.5/1.5 or -1/1.5 (I use .5 fades for discs that want to fight back but don’t always).
From my experience Opto (non-Pro) Saints fly an awful lot like Lucid Escapes. Yes, a bit more glide.
I love my Saints, but ... yes, they are flippy and are fairly easy to overturn. When my touch isn't "on" (or there's a headwind) I jump to a Millennium Orion LS or Musket, depending on the shot for a bit more stability. But when my touch is on, I can get some really long straight flights from them.
Pew pew star savant! My g-star thunderbird has beaten in to be pretty similar now. My glow Lots is really flippy do I use it for forehand turnover shots since I suck at backhand...
Would have loved to see the recent s line cd1 and zetas moon against each other. Love my zeta but don't know if the sline is more stable
I bag an FD for this shot shape right now, but i used to bag a Lat64 Saint.
Caleb seems like a good guy. You should do a "getting to know Caleb" video.
He is a great guy! Check out his In The Bag and his channel, he does some fun, silly stuff over there
Aura construct to me started as a flip up to flight and then dead straight, but as my arms gotten stronger and the disc has beaten in it will flip up and drag left to right (rhbh) forever
Try an Ethos Construct. Mine's pretty stable (but not overly so) for backhand and forehand, certainly more so than my Saints.
I wish there was some kind of translation to metric, for temperature, speed and distance. That would make this video available to the remaining 97% of the world that aren't stuck in obsolete measuring systems.
Have you done overstable approach yet for this series?
I bought two Saint pro’s, 175 and 171, and they were both super flippy for me. I wonder if there’s some inconsistencies there
Doomsdaydiscs lockdown in survivor or Shockwave should definitely be in part 2
I throw a k1 lots! A lighter 167g one for flip to turn with an overall straight flight and a 174g Goodpasture tour series one for flip to flat with fade just like in the video
I bag a westside Bear in that Slot, its a 8speed i think🤔
AN OPTO SAINT IS QUITE A BIT MORE UNDERSTABLE THAN THE PRO---I THROW A FROST LINE SAINT---NOODLE ARM--LOVE IT
I throw the Dynasty. It has been super neutral for me. The 'halo' run is a touch more stable, but also a lot more domey.
Yah i got an aura construct hoping it was a long strait fairway and it flipped like my hatchet!
I really like the Prodigy FX3 in this slot. It’s actually keeping the Tesla out of my bag atm.
I thought I had a bunk supreme Escape or I just couldn't throw it. Mine also dumps like a -4 turn instead of a -1 turn.
It’s all about the c-line CD-1.
How was the Innova savant not included?
Im no big arm, and i've never thrown that run/plastic of construct but i do have 3 constructs and i've NEVER seen one fly that understable
Savant is my go to
