A video on what a Contractor's QS does VS a Consultant QS would be great as the two are completely different career paths but have so many similarities. If people understood the fundamental differences, they could make a more informed decision at an earlier stage of their career. Your videos are delivered in such a way which would compliment this subject perfectly.

@@Metroun I'm a contractor's QS at present, we see projects after they are pretty much fully designed and tender for them accordingly. It would be good to get an insight into all the work that happens prior to that, right from when a client has the big idea
I studied for 4 years at the University of Technology, Jamaica and within that for years I did internship for a semester at Davidson & Hanna Chartered Quantity Surveying firm that is organised by the school.

@@Metroun I don't know if my academic qualifications and work experience can be recognized in the UK. I have a Chinese QS certificate, but I'm not sure if the certificate can be used internationally. Of course, UK is not my only choice. I just want to escape from this place. Thank you for your reply.

Hello Onwah. The best option would be to look for roles that offer an apprenticeship programme. Here, the company would pay for your degree in return for a lower salary and a set time that you have to stay in the company. May I ask where you are based?

I would say Cost Engineer is a job role you’d typically find in the USA which aligns most closely with Quantity Surveyor.

Yes, it is possible. You will most likely need to do a masters in Quantity Surveying for the academic side of the profession but 5 years of experience in the construction industry will help.
Do Quantity surveyors earn more than architects on average ?

Thanks for your comment. No, we'd say on average Architects earn more than Quantity Surveyors. The average salary of an Architect in the UK is £73,000 and the average salary of a QS in the UK is around £50,000.

Does quantity surveying include on site physical work, or is it more like office work?
Hi Yasin, it really depends on the job you take. Some roles will be on-site QS's who spend all their time in site (obviously with their laptop too) and some jobs may be totally office based. It's always good to ask in the interview where you'll be expected to spend most of your time
No physical work. But you would be on site from time to time
