IF your update fails or you don't perform the update precisely as instructed by the PDF instructions with the update, you may corrupt the FantomO operating system, and the keyboard will no longer function. Any power failure during the update process may also corrupt the Fantoms firmware memory rendering the Fantom non-functional. IF you turn the power off before the update completes, you may corrupt the Fantom's firmware, and the keyboard may not boot up.
Yes!!! This was nerve-racking the first time I updated this board. This was the second time, and I still was nervous 😓.
I was updating a Korg NTS synth because the auto shutoff could not be disabled. I read the instructions 3 times, then performed them step by step perfectly. The update froze and after one hour pulled the USB out and the synth became a dead brick. I may never update a device ever again, the only reason I updated the Korg is because it was totally useless without the update. @@GammaLensMedia

That sucks. That was my biggest fear when I first bought the Fantom 0. I was worried I'd brick it right after I bought it. However, I couldn't get it to connect to Ableton. So, I pulled the trigger in the 1.04 update. Luckily, that update worked with getting it to connect with Ableton.
Firmware updates I usually avoid at all costs unless I'm having issues the update specifically helps resolve

I’ll chime in here. I wrote a lengthy post on Roland forums, but it’s been down. My experience is I used a 256 GB flash drive. Which is a no no and I kind of knew that. The first part of the update went just fine, but once it got to the second part it hung over a hour. You are supposed to use a drive that is formatted as fat32 and no bigger than a 32GB drive. Anyway I did not shut it off. I remembered I had another drive that was 16 GB so I went to my windows computer and formatted it to 32GB and brought all the files onto it. After put it in the usb port of the famtom 0 and the update picked right up where it left off and finished through. Don’t panic and shut it off if it hangs…do that if you don’t have a drive that size, run to the store lol.
I wonder if it’s like the Roland SP404 MK2. It can work with like a TB card, but for updating you can only perform on a 32GB card. When the Fantom and SP404 MK2 update they look very similar.
For anyone who has the issue where the update doesnt start after copying the files into the flash drive, YOU NEED ONLY THE 3 FILES INSIDE THE ROOT OF THE FLASH DRIVE. If you copy and paste the folder WITH the files inside, it will not update since they are stuck in the folder.
I took the files out of the folder within the flashdrive and this worked no problem

Probably the most challenging part for people is ensuring the three files in the zip file are extracted to the root directory of their USB drives, and ensuring those files are not contained in a folder on their USB drives. A simple drag and drop from two open windows of File Explorer: one showing the three extracted files in the zip file, and one displaying the contents for the root folder of the USB drive....

Couldn’t Roland have streamlined an already nervous process for most? Having to boot it up in a firmware update mode with the write key on boot. Then you have to update two separate boards, swapping the USB drive with the update files on, to the ext usb port.
Anyway, easy to follow video so thank you.
Agreed, they definitely should have made it plug and play with the computer. It's not 2000 anymore lol!

The problem I have is it gets to the update screen and says to insert a usb drive in MEMORY and the cursor just spins. This is the same drive I have been using so who knows! arggg

You have to put your pendrive in 2nd slot while uploading the update

The fantom only reads sticks under 16gb format in a Fat 32 format. Just do this the fantom will read the stick

Thank you for this video. I got mine just this week and i noticed in a day or two that the Rhythm pattern stopped working. - There is no sound when I select a pattern. It started to work after doing a factory reset. Then again in a day or so it stopped worked. I just did a firmware update but that hasn't solved the issue. Any leads?

How long should I let this update take? It just spins!
Do the polyphony test is it true they fixed that? Want to know before investing in a board
I'll try and do a test and see if the polyphony is still an issue on the new firmware update.
I don't generally layer sounds on the fantom 0 to play (other than the scenes that are already built into the board).
I'm not a stage player, and polyphony is huge for live playing.
As a studio musician, I generally do one channel at a time recording instrument by instrument when making songs ( so for my use, polyphony hasn't affected me).
I'll do a video on this soon.
I also would like to know before I buy.....I play live and will be layering at least 2/3 sounds
Question, Do 1.5 have the other 4 updates because I need to update I have 1.0.🤔
You should only do the update you want. If you want the 1.5 update, you should only have to update once. All other fixes typically are included as they move up firmware numbers.
